View Full Version : The Australian Cricket Team is Something! Respect

Just look at the two teams, and the experience and stars that India boast of, and all the injuries in the Australian team. And they have still managed to win the series and look set to fulfill Bhajji's prophecy as well. :)

Well that is testament to the Aussie guts and fighting spirit. And to do it in India, where most people were expecting an Aussie rout is really something.

Congratulations!

And India won't find a better opportunity to rout the Aussies any time soon.

And on a side note, God help Pakistan. :(

Well if Lee, Johnson, Bracken, Siddle are all fit when we play them, then good luck to pakistan on those Aussie wickets.

What an over-rated bunch of hacks the Indian team is !

And sorry I think our batsmen (Akmal brothers and Malik) will thrive on the pitches in Australia. Generally don't provide too much swing, and have decent bounce. I've a feeling we'll put up a good showing in the ODI's iA, we've got more character than the blokes that just got thumped by Australia D.

Congrats Aussies.

Just out of curiosity, a question for Random Aussie or OZGOD: if all your players are available for selection come December, what will be the first choice Test and ODI teams against us?

Its going to be an exciting series in Australia. I dont expect too much from our guys except that i want them to fight till the very end in every game just like they did in the 2004-2005 VB Series, i thought that was a very successful series for Pakistan even though we lost it because it developed some self belief and fighting spirit in the team.

What we also forgot about that series is that we were going in with a third string bowling attack.

We're much better equipped this time.

More than the team itself, my respect for their domestic structure has gone up tenfold.

5-7 first xi starters are missing, and guys like Bollinger, Marsh, McKay etc have come in and shown that they belong at the international level.

Amazing team indeed every player is a match winner since years, full credit to their domestic structure. But let us not over rate Umer Akmal he is a good batsman indeed but let us not play Indian media and over hype our players (like we quite did in case of Umer Gul,Younis and Afridi Already). Playing australia is not easy and playing australia in australia with their crowd media and pitches is really hell.

I agree with the perils of overhyping players. Just one point though: There's no way somebody can overhype Afridi. That's because it is just not possible. :)

well i for one didnt think australia would get hammered any way regardless of the fact that they were missing alot of first teamers, aus never die attitude and commitment make them tough to beat regardless what team they have out, finally i'm not like many on these boards who continue to over hype a team which is way overrated INDIA

Congratz to Oz.This series victory also showed the kind of bench strength they have. One of the major reasons for our failure in this series is the absence of a genuine allrounder and the presence of a crappy player like Jadeja.I am sure,Rohit Sharma or pathan brothers would have done much better.

I am very much impressed with guys like Clint Mckay ,Siddle and Hauritz. they deserve the number 1 spot

I say I agree Afridi is too complicated. Let me forfeit my claim on Afridi.

Aussies are really a FANTASTIC team.
Congratulations and well done!!!

Lee, Bracken and Siddle are their frontline bowlers and they are also missing Clark and Haddin and even lost Paine who was doing well. On paper, Indians were stronger than even full strength Australia but it's amazing how Aussies have managed to win this one.

It will be very tough for Pakistan against Australia IN Australia. We had poor bowling attack last time but better batting lineup. Inzi scored a few 50's and batsmen were in reasonable form.
Our strength this time is:

Asif's return
Afridi's bowling form
Ajmal's bowling
Aamer's emergence

Our batting is very unstable right now but there is still a lot of time for players like Younis, Yousuf, Malik, Afridi etc to get some form back and there is no doubt they are all capable of that. As someone said earlier, we shouldn't expect too much from Umar Akmal. He is a talented batsman but he hasn't been tested against really good bowling in different conditions and he hasn't played too much domestic cricket so let's not put too much pressure on Akmal.

Well people used to joke around that Australian first class teams are better then many International teams, this series has just proven that.

Edit: To be honest i am still somewhat shocked at how Australia manage to win, i didn't even expect Australia's best available side to beat India in India let alone their replacement of replacement players.

Well done to Aussie .The way they have beaten India with so many new players its amazing.

Good Luck to Pakistan . The only good thing for Pakistan is that no one will give us chance to win in Australia and we got nothing to lose. :ajmal

same here! i also don't expect much from them but...pakistan should never be underestimated. Well pak make the aussies sweat in the only game they faced each other in the CT this year...only brett lee and hauritz pulled of a last ball victory.

I'm still afraid of a handful of batting collapses in Australia. We had a few against SL in SL (although those were our first few tests after several years). The tests in NZ will help us gauge our chances better. If we can find 5 permanent (at least for the next couple of years) test batsmen in NZ tests, we've got a fighting chance. And drawing level in Aus will be victory enough.

Asif's comeback and Aamer's rise will be key on the bowling front. 6 specialist batsmen and 4 specialist bowlers - plus Kami - will be the way to go.

In ODIs, we've got a better chance, but again mental toughness will be key. I'm glad we have NZ first.

i think our bowlers are the key in the test matches, most of our batsman are likely to struggle.

Hmmm it is a bit hard to tell because does depend on domestic performances and the Tests v the West Indies.

But Test:

3 Ponting
4 Hussey or Watson
5 Clarke
6 North
7 Haddin
8 Johnson
9 Hauritz
10 Siddle
11 Hilfenhaus

ODI side:

1 Marsh

3 Ponting
4 Clarke
5 White
6 Hussey
7 Haddin

Congrats Aussies.

Just out of curiosity, a question for Random Aussie or OZGOD: if all your players are available for selection come December, what will be the first choice Test and ODI teams against us?

This tour has actually turned out to be a great tour, even though I (and I suspect many other Ozzies) didn't really take it that seriously at the beginning, mainly because it came at the end of a really long four months on the road for the OZ team. In another 3 or 4 weeks our summer season starts and we will be playing at home again for another 3 months, so this seemed a bit like overkill. Even worse that many players got injured before and during it. But it's turned out to be a great exercise in blooding young, untested players, mainly through necessity rather than choice.

And a lot of them came through and showed that they have the ability to perform at the top level - the next step will be seeing if they can maintain a consistent level of performance. We were playing India, the 2nd ranked team in the world, at their own home, on their wickets, in front of their own crowds. I thought we did pretty well considering the adversity we had to deal with.

So now we have a wider pool of players to pick from for 2010 and 2011. The first choice to play WI and Pak will probably be (I will talk about ODIs first, below the XI are the subs)

Twatson
Marsh
Dubya
Hussey
Clarke
Hopeless
Haddin
MJ
Lee
Hauritz
Bracken

Subs:

Openers: Warner, Hughes (Haddin also opens the innings)
Middle order: White, D. Hussey, Voges, Ferguson
Allrounders: Henriques
WK: Paine, Manou, Ronchi
Pace bowlers: Siddle, Bollinger, McKay, Clark, Tait

I think we're pretty well covered in all departments other than spin. If Horroritz goes down we don't really have a stand-out replacement.

For Tests it will probably be the Ashes side, but I'm guessing that Twatson will probably move down to the lower middle order, probably replacing Marcus North or Hussey.

Hughes
Krapich
Dubya
Clarke
North
Twatson
Haddin
MJ
Hauritz
Siddle
Hilfenhaus

Subs:
Openers: Jaques, Rogers (or move Twatson to open)
Middle order: Hussey, Hodge
Allrounders: McDonald
WK: Manou
Pace bowlers: Lee, Bollinger, Clark

Again the spinner is the only gap, if Horroritz got injured they may slot in Krezja or Casson (though both are out of favour I think) into that spot.

Actually, if I was any of these 4 players (well, perhaps not as much Clarke), I'd be counting my last few remaining international cricketing days.

I would take Haddin off that list. He's not going anywhere. He's the best wicketkeeper in Australia by a clear margin. Paine is a decent batsman but not that great with the gloves while Manou is great with the gloves but not that decent as a batsman. Ronchi is very hit or miss.

And if you're talking about Michael Clarke, he's not going anywhere either - he's going to be our next captain after Ponting assuming he maintains his form. He's been groomed for that role for the past 5 years and the selectors are not going to chuck him out like a pile of old rubbish just like that. A lot of effort has been invested in him.

For just a brief period the Aussies struggled as the went through the rebuilding phase. They are once again back to where they were, that is ruling the cricket world. I'm sure they can beat South Africa comprehensively in the near future, and won't struggle against them like they did in their rebuilding phase some months ago.

I think that bedgrudgingly we should remove the TWATson tag. He has brought it many times this year in big moments in ODIs and averaged 48 against the poms. Gotta hand it to him, tosser or not.

Mind you Australia is still beatable but still you have to be on your toes against them all the time, you still cannot underestimate and take things easy against them. Sometimes when the aussies lose, they lose pretty convincingly and its very easy for the opposing team to get complacent as a result.

This is what happened to South Africa in the test series, this is what happened to Pakistan in the UAE, and i am pretty certain this happened to the Indians as well right now.
