instead of making monuments why dont they make public lavatories so the poor dont have to go around shitting n peeing in the public..

i feel so disgruntled by the mindsets of our decision makers.

Rs 400 Million ! Have they totlally lost it ? Will the homeless then sleep aroundt this monument ? How about simply refurbishing the MinarePakistan ?

15th February 2005, 05:24
when I first saw the topic I thought you meant BABE-e-pakistan |-R

on a more serious note...MIG is absolutely right...Pak is in no position to be wasting money on "monuments". someone please knock some sense into our leaders!!!

suhaib

dnt talk cr@p if you dnt know nothing. this will help reduce poverty, increase econmy and boom tourism in lahore.

15th February 2005, 17:45
apparantly suhaib did an entire survey on this topic. we dont need tourism in lahore suhaib, there are many other places we can spend our money on.

suhaib
15th February 2005, 17:48
maybe you dnt want tourism, but PAKISTAN does.

easy suhaibonline - atys has just expressed his view which he is entitled to.

IMHO, this is a waste of money - building a monument will not alleviate poverty ! Once the construction is over, those labourers would be back to nothings - Also Pakistans tourism industry is not on hold cos this monument is not built - most tourists dont want to come to Pakistan due to the law and order situation there.

Again this is my view , you are free to disagree..

Well if its Lahore, it will end being used as a makeshift Public lavatory!

I argued with SUhaib 100s of times in the past over the relevance and need of such developments when so much of Pak lives in poverty.

Sure-it will make money, but only for those that have it in the 1st place!!

Geordie Ahmed
15th February 2005, 23:32
Oxy atleast with the other projects they had the potential of doing something, say a theme park if it was done properly could have helped the local economy but its unrealistic to expect that! BUT with this monument i cannot see how that Rs 400 Million will be returned! its useless and not needed

15th February 2005, 23:40
400 million is a LOT of money!!! you could improve a whole colony of underpriviliged houses with that. If nothing else get enough water and electricity to them!

As proud as I am of being a Pakistani it sometimes saddens me to see the direction in which we are headed as a country.

it costs 40 crores and will generate over 50 crores a year. and there are a few good theme parks being made.

well.i think i can tell y the medical care and all the stuff is not provided and not funded...............well for basics....medical, eduction ...etc are all merit goods and private companies r not willing to provide them because of free rider problem.......so the govt. has to provide them.........but alas as u know most of our govt. officials r uneducated and vadera type who only care about the money and themselves .....these things r left unprovided.......and as theses officials r uneducated they do not forsee the future and its short comings and waste money on projects which r of no use..........and by the way it depends on how people percieve it.............and the solution is that we need educated and bright people who know economics and all the business capabilities as well.............and who are scared of Allah and love their country alot ..........

who said that there funded heavily and not the others. There not funded at all actully, do you see more things like this happening in pak, maybe only private ones, This is the first big project i have ever seen from them. there not funded at all. health and education are funded 1000 times more then them. plus projects for tourism will bring back money.

health and education are getting funded, but if you look around most of the hopitals, clinics, schools, institions, etc are being made privatly.
plus now there are sooo many new societys being made in pak, they all have there own schools and hospitals.

So education and health are funded much more (1000 times more!)...any figures bro and if thats true what r they doing with all the money.

and if education n health r funded so highly why are MOST schools and health inst. built privately?
societies are for the rich ppl. the common man doesnt have access to them. its govt hospitals which need improvement

suhaib
13th April 2005, 19:25
who said societys are for rich people. there are societys made for everyone. formanites is lahore is well cheap.

plus bahria town is also sold very cheap, it is people who buy it and sell it for expensive.

well it just started recently, before pak was 100% corrupt with nawa shirif and benezir but now its come alot down. look for major improvements in the next 4 years. gov. is concentrating on smaller and poorer citys while they are being made privatly in big citys,

Suhaib i think your living in a fantsay world! these projects are all well and good for the upper class, the ppl me, sajjad, oxy etc etc are referring to are the ppl we see in the streets who have no home, clean water or any form of basic living. these are the ppl we want our government to concentrate on BUT these bahria town, malls etc etc do not benefit them!

Pakistan may well be a changed country in 5 years BUT only for the rich.

if big projects are being made for the rich that doesnt mean nothing is happening for the poor. If you go to lahore there is nothing there for the rich, except a few resturants, all bazaars and other resturants are all for the poor, all the new posh projects have just started to be made now. but i do agree that the rich is getting richer, but that doesnt mean the poor are getting poorer, they are also getting richer and the poverty rate has also decreased very largly.

the gap might be getting bigger, but does that mean the poor and getting poorer and poorer.

the rich are just getting richer.

:))) :))) :))) What a joke. Are u even using your brain here? :L? If the gap is getting bigger than the poor are getting poor and the richer are getting more richer. It would be closing if the poor were getting richer and richer getting poorer. Please continue with you jokes. They are providing a great deal of laughs to me. ;)+ :))) :))) :)))

who said the rich are getting poorer, once again you show you cant read. continue laughting like a donkey.

It shows that you can't read because if the poverty is really decreasing then the poor will be getting richer and richer would either be getting poorer or remain the same (I used poor in the previous example). I was just giving you an example there and it seems that you failed to grasp it. ;)+

I agree that you don't get rich overnight it takes time but how come you say that poverty is decreasing. All you had to say that the government has taken steps to reduce poverty and hopefully the results will be seen shortly.

i understand ur enthusiasm for pakistan. and i do believe steps r being taken to improve the situation...but such things take time. so wait for there to be more positive results and the conditions to improve and then u can make statements that u have made earlier on...except this time they will be backed up with some facts. till that happens..u have tio be more careful when u express ur 'patriotism'

Subhaib are you sure you are talking about Pakistan here because I have been living here for god knows when but I have not seen except facilities for rich getting better and better and facilities for poor getting worse and worse. The conditions of hospitals are appaling ( I am talking about govt hospitals). What jobs are you talking about? Unemployment, inflaction and law and order situation is getting worse day by day and you say Pakistan will benefit from stupid monuments like these. If half the amount being wasted on this monument can be spent on revamping the already made monuments like Minar-e-Pakistan (which is in shambles) we can do alot better. The conditions of roads is appalling, I am not talking about your road in defense there are other parts of Lahore too.

As u say that there is a possibility that the gap is widening. OK so let us assume it is widening wouldn't that mean that the poor are getting more poor and the richer are getting more richer..

Not necessarily./
