:oD gr8 joke
razzaq scores big runs more consistantly.....! he has done for last 5/6
years afridi has been hit most of his career

He better not get out and throw it away like he did in that Holland final a few months ago.

the long leg boundary
yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!

when afridi can hammer 80s off 40 balls all time... then comment!

to put it in a nutshell if Afridi couldnt bow like he does he wouldnt be in the team. If razzaq couldnt bowl he would still play for Pakistan!

Afridi was hugely instrumental in turning this game around for us

Razzaq won the game for us end of story!
He is the GENIUS

afridi's 30 off 13 helped though !!! brought the run rate down !!!!
Mercenary
30th January 2005, 12:34
Afridi took the need to play risky shots away from razzaq otherwise we would be here saying Razzaq was playing recklessly and got out unnecessarily losing us the game!!
Daoud
30th January 2005, 13:11
They're both integral parts of the team
Afridi chucked it away almost but Razzaq stayed to the end. Razzaq, I wouldnt play if he didnt bowl but he is as good an all rounder as any if he is in top form and he actually tries his hardest.
Mercenary
30th January 2005, 13:17
if Afridi hadnt brought the runs required to well below balls remaining then Razzaq would have had to do it, whilst batting with tailenders
it would have been a closer finish and the odds would have heavily favoured the Aussies

Well played Razzaq and Afridi
Yes but at the end of the day someone has to take them home. Afridi did well but batting where he does, not being a great bowler, he should be finishing. Personally I feel if u can hit a ball like he can he should just know when to take the one and hold his nerve and he could average 40+ and bat in the top6.

30th January 2005, 13:31
afridi is there to speed up the game with his boundaries and quick knocks razzaq is just an awesome player once he starts there's no stopping him, his fighting spirit is not like afridi's coz these 2 batsmens have 2 different personalities yet both can produce well outcomes....

Razzaq is definitely the most dangerous lower order batsman in the world (ODI). Captain material? Don't know to be honest, has he ever been captain before (domestic)?
welcome to PP. Afridi may do that but he doesnt hold his place as a batsman or bowler alone, not for me anyway. going by ur name, u should stay well away from me!

Razzaq is our finisher.......... yessssssssss
DM
30th January 2005, 16:11
Agreed Merc and Schiller. Afridi brutally turned the tide, risking his own wicket with a massive strike rate, leaving others more deliveries to play. Razzaq guided the ship home :-D
Mishra, still maintain the view that 'bits and pieces' players shouldn't play? They won us the match today. Compare:
Bowling O M R W
Naved-ul-Hasan 10 0 49 2 (4w)
Iftikhar Anjum 10 0 57 0
Abdul Razzaq 10 0 53 4 (3nb)
Mohammad Khalil 10 0 55 2 (5w)
Shahid Afridi 10 0 45 2 (2w)
Afridi, Razz and Rana guiding us home

Both Razzak's and Afridi's innining were equal in the context of the situation.
Afridi brought down the run rate to allow Razzak and Rana to 'cruise' home with overs to spare

lols so many were saying razzaq was crap....
and that his bowling was no longer worthy of a seamers role in the side !
makes me laugh so much that people can be so stupid..... (shame i can't go back to the old site and check who it was !)

i donno if he should be odi skipper...but he is the best lower order batsman
Karchie, the old Razzaq was deadly, the Razzaq of late was cannon fodder. Today he played like the Razzaq of old. I think everyone would agree with that.

I think everyone would agree with that.i think razzaq has always been good and he is still good.....its only the tests that he has gone down in....ODI's ...he has always helped Pakistan in them......his bowling skills however, have gone down.....
thats what I mean. He should be a genuine all rounder because as a batsman alone.....well I have my doubts.

My take on Razzaq
When he bowls well his batting sucks
When he bats well his bowling sucks.
yesterdays game was a stand out in which he did both well, but i think now he is entering his bowl well bat poorly phase.
If you bat in the top6 u have to make runs first.

The most important thing was, whilst others panciked and lost their cool, Abdul remained the ice man. He was as cool as a cucumber, and had the situation under control. He ran well most of the time and placed his big shots to prefection.
exactly, he finished the job Saj. something I have called for a Pakistani player to do for a long time as u well know.

well done to Razzaq for seeing us home, im glad we finished the game instead of losing it at a point we would probably have choked!
Also Afridi's contribution should not be overlooked! he sacrificed his own average for the teams sake, like he did against India in the ICC match!

Wow this really sums up the amount of thought most pakpassioners put in their posts, one day Razzaq wins you the match and its all "Razzaq the champion, better then Afridi, Best batsmen in the world, make him skipper, make him king!!!!!" and then another day he doesn't click and its all "bits and pieces, shouldn't be in the team, can only bowl trundlers, doesn't have a clue against spin, throw him in the dustbin!!!!" From king to dustbin all in the matter of a few matches!!! I seem to remember the same patern after his Mohali knock as well. So many people here talk about how the selectors have to be patient and give some openers a long run and ponder over why the selectors hope for instant results when really pak people are the ones who want instant results forcing the selectors to "chop and change"! Shows just how contradictory people are from match to match. I can almost garuntee that if Razzaq perform well against England in tests the same people will be praising him and the cycle will never end!

These comments are on razzaq the odi player! i think most fans on here are happy with him.
his criticism has come in from his crappy test displays. yes he batted well in mohali on a pancake pitch.. what else has he done consistantly in last 2 years? one inns doesnt make razzaq a superstar v spin.
saurav ganguly for years has been a poor player of fast bowling. alot of indian fans said he proved he cud play fast bowling when he scored 100+ in australia..! one inns yet, that doesnt make him a superstar v pace.
razzaq has average 41 with ball and just 22 with bat over last 2 years in tests so ur remarks on being patient are pathetically laughable.
are openers have been changed game afta game! yet joke cricketers like razzaq/sami etc have played game afta game yet not produced. so try to try and gage to different scenarios togther to make a point again is laughable.

Abdul Razzaq is still a good player in ODIs , even though people say he is out of form !
In his overall ODI career :
Batting ave : 30.07
Bowl ave : 29.61
Last 30 matches:
Bat Ave : 32.95
Bowl ave : 32.97
In last 10 matches :
Bat ave: 28.66
Bowl ave : 30.21
So you can see he is still a core member of pakistan ODI team . In test however the situation is completely different.

Where in my post AJ, did I say Razzaq was a superstar vs. spin? All I said was that when he plays well people are full of praise for him and when he plays bad people are full of hatred for him. You talk about consistency from him yet your inconsistent yourself! You say he has crappy test displays yet you seem to think he has a brilliant odi record. His odi stats over the past 2 years aren’t pretty either with an average of 37.37 at less than a wicket a match in bowling and 34.96 with 26 not outs in batting. Take away that 26 not out and you’ll have just as pathetic odi record as test yet you seem to think he has done something marvellous in the odi arena, just because of one innings against Australia. So its not me who is calling for him to be captain becase of one performance, its you. By the way, I fail to see how you call someone a joke cricketer and want them to captain the side especially since their test and odi records are very similar. BTW I know Ganguly isn’t the best against pace but does that have anything to do with Razzaq? So trying to gauge two different scenarios together to make a point is truly laughable.

i didnt convay razzaq to be odi skipper on basis of 1 games. i made my point on the basis of razzaqs performances on the whole in odis. Seems uve jumped (at time of this thread i said quite a few times during that time period razzaq shud be odi skipper) to conclusion on basis of my post. i dont proclaim cricketers to be great etc afta 1 game like some on here. as fas as razzaq goes yes he has lots of not outs in odis thats not a surprise as he bats low down. why dont we take all micheal bevans not outs or mike husseys am sure they will have poor records to :))
An average of 30-35 in odis is seen as a good thing along as a batsmens doing well in his role. yes razzaq is a brilliant odi cricketer and a crappy test player...! micheal bevan, nick knight were the same aswell.
nothing wrong at all with my comments ;-)

in an answer to the original question: the answer is NO
he's not a genius - I've been waiting for the razzler to shine for ages now, and apart from a few peformance he hasnt done anything of note - beyond an average cricketer
to call him genius is truly belittling the word - only a handful of players can ever be accoladed with that tag
