Jury is out on Shakib's captaincy. He ends the 3rd innings himself by holding the chance of an instant personal milestone above slowly squeezing out another crucial 30 runs. In England's 1st innings, he wastes the new ball on the dreadful Razaak, and when Razzak is rubbish he keeps him on. He does this in the 4th innings too.
Also in the 4th innings, he completely forgets that the decent little seamer Rubel exists until the 23rd over, the bowler that has given us the most problems. He gets the no.1 batsman Pietersen on strike early on - with no close fielder. His fields are so uninventive that it prompts Cork to say on TMS that 'he must be setting the field for a run-out'. He bowls himself because he doesn't know what else to do. He has now bowled over 70 overs in the match and batted 4-5 hours - nobody has enough energy to take wickets after that. How do you bowl a side out cheaply with all these tactics? Worst of all, I imagine Shakib gets called a hero for his marathon spells, when the likes of Flintoff used to get slated for bowling 50 overs and batting for 2 hours when he was captain.
So Trott suffers a dodgy run out I see. To go along with him being given out caught off the helmet in the first test, and Broad's denied LBW yesterday. The difference is that England's next batsman digs in, or the bowler's next ball is a wicket-taker, as opposed to the Bangladeshi reaction of whining and losing. Not to mention we have dropped 7-10 catches in this test yet we're still strolling to victory.
Clearly, England can count their lucky stars that they easily won this tour 5-0.
Whinning, hear your commentators you will find out the meaning of whinning. You guys whine if one decision goes against you, don't want to mention on waht happened to the umpire who made one mistake against u folks in the South Africa test, now won't be able to stand in the T20 WC. English commies, players etc biggest whinners in history.
Also comparing umpring blunders and droping catches is very stupid. Pretty damn stupid.

in terms of your own good fortune and the amount of runs you were able to add - not really. and given what we've seen from your 4th innings effort so far, even if we were chasing 300 I think we'd have a chance. no matter how many excuses you can think of for Bangladesh's position in the series, when push comes to shove in the crucial sessions they aren't good enough.

Impossible! The white umpires are biased against Bangladesh!

Personally I haven't even considered that the decisions have been wrong because it's simply a rubbish set of umpires.

I don't think anyone of us made a racist remark here! We never said the white umpires were against us, don't know where you got that from, very odd and out of context comment.
But the umpring in the whole series have been below international standard. Meaningless comment again.
From Trott's runout to Morgan's plumb L.B.Ws, bizzare umpiring. Well played England and they deserve the win.

Maybe now is the time to clarify the perceived Pietersen 'weakness against left-arm spin'. I always felt that he was simply out-of-form, and there was only left-arm spinners bowling, so when he gets out it's bound to be to one of them. not a weakness - an inevitability. when the spotlight is on you all the time and you get out cheaply, people make theories about it to give the press something to write about. simple.

From here:
given the atrocious officiating of the match, i will be pleased with a draw. even a draw will punish those critics of bangladesh who refuse to accept the unequal playing fields that the ICC have turned a blind eye to. the ICC is destroying test cricket by allowing the big 4 boards to hold the game hostage, and victimizing ALL non-white teams via poor umpiring decisions.

Awesome shot from Cook to bring up his fifty. absolutely smashes it through midwicket. question marks over the captaincy, but been England's most positive and overall best batsman on the tour.

Based on one person's remark you shouldn't be generalizing. We are all different thus have different perceptions.
Should have quoted him and replied if it was meant for him.

Anyway we don't have the right bowlers to win us test matches, may as well stop playing test cricket, it's ridiculous at the number of chances given to us and the players can hardly pull off a draw.
James
24th March 2010, 08:51
they have proved me wrong since the first days of test 1. I said they should have had the test status taken away, and that they hadn't improved since we last played them in 2005. I was wrong, they are better than that now, and this series will have taught them a lot, one of the only series against a major side where they have really competed. kind of pointless to take away their test status now when they are finally starting to improve.
I wanted Pietersen to get the ton, but Chef is playing too well and will get it himself. Chef deserves it I know...but Pietersen hasn't scored a test hundred in a year and his average has dropped below 50, for the first time since then he deserves a hundred, he has worked so hard to re-establish his place in the team when even I thought it was time for him to sit a few games out, not the player of 2005-8 as we know but still a class act.

that's an exhibition of how to score boundaries against a defensive field. first one was a lofted drive over the cover fielder which bisected two offside boundary fielders, and the second was a gun barrel straight drive between the bowler and the mid on. love it.

Cook is hot on KP's heels with his own gorgeous drive down the ground. test cricket is not easy but these two are making it look pretty much so.
Ashraful_Rox
24th March 2010, 09:05
You can't judge KP based on his performance against Bangladesh, we simply don't have quality bowlers to trouble any International batsmen. Most of the time batsmen gets out to these sort of bowlers is when they try to take a little bit of risk, our spinners hardly spin the ball and our seamers can only bowl one good ball every 10 overs. Our batting has improved but our bowling is not of International standard, a truth which many bangladeshi fans doesn't want to agree upon.
K.P thinks he got his form back, but against this attack Jason Gilespie had a ton, oh wait double ton, so he may as well struggle in the Ashes.
Robert
24th March 2010, 09:06
I hope Cook can get a hundred here, but he'll have to motor if KP stays in.
James
24th March 2010, 09:13
Yes the batting is getting there, and the bowling is awful. still a lot of work to be done to win test matches.
KP is looking comfortable and freely scoring runs, that's good enough for me. clearly the selectors idea was to give him some games against Bangladesh to give him a better chance of regaining his form. I'm not saying this means he will maintain his average of 50 against Australia when we go there, but for the first time since he lost the captaincy, he seems happy-ish.
wasi90lk
24th March 2010, 09:13
shakib al hasan simply gave up, it was poor captaincy by him in the 4th innings. shakib al hasan is doing the same thing what mohammed yousuf did against australia in the 2nd test (defensive field set up).
we should have drawn this test, naeem was disappointing with the bat.

great little fifty, SR 90. turned a potentially tight chase into a cakewalk.

Abdur Razzak, Imrul Kayes needs to be dropped and we need a better bowling coach, against these sort of bowlers even Chris Martin may score a ton.

Don't be downhearted, I've seen England blast their way to a 200-2 win against an SA with Donald and Pollock bowling.
This is the sort of run-chase that English county batsmen do in their sleep.

Oh come on, seven an over needed against Imran and Wasim bowling unchanged? ;-)
Actually Imran was surprised that England screwed that up! The selectors hamstrung them by picking Athey, and Gooch was on self-imposed exile at the time.

As i expected england wrapped up an easy 2-0 win.
Cook will be happy with the tour. Likes of Bresnan and tredwell have done well which has been a good bonus.

Bangladesh continue to be competative in defeat. Their bowling attack needs to gain alot more potency though!

LOL! Yeh, I was jesting with you.
Still, both Imran and Gatting felt England should have won that one - just re-read the Wisden report on the match.
Was a great series though!

Well done England and well done Chef for six wins out of six.
England plus points: Chef got good experience of captaincy and scored two hundred, KP got some form back, Swann continued to take lots of wickets, Bresnan emerged as a realistic bowling option, Strauss is coming back!
Bangla plus points: Tamim and Shakib came on leaps and bounds.

Looks about right. Nice deep batting. I want to see Onions back, though.

Anderson will rip us apart, we won't even be able to make 150 this time :(
James

if he's fit, Onions instead of Bresnan
I hope England agree with my batting order, but no doubt they will find a way to expose Trott again. In reality, only Pietersen is good enough for number 3.

England wins courtsey some sub standard umpiring.
When you win through multiple faulty decisons of umpire that win tantamounts to nothingness.
God bless The umpires, ICC.
I feel sorry for Jamie(his outbursts says it all), BD team and millions of fans all over the world.

It's funny how, when England was losing match after match against Australia, most of the umpiring decisions seemed to go in the Aussies' favour....
Then in 2005 when England had the good bowling attack, the marginal decisions were going to England....

That's so true.
I have nothng against Engand side. They are superior to BD in all respects :Batting, Bowling, Fieldng and leadership. But if any team gets undue favour from umpires and wins it loses a loss of credibility.Again it is not England's fault if umpire favors them. It is the men in white who is ruining the game in an unethical fashion.

I don't think the umps are unethical. I don't think they are racist - a Kiwi and an Aussie are more likely to be on baglea's side than England's! I think they succumb to unconscious psychological processes because one team is playing better than the other.
All I can say is that when Bangla batters get better at batting 'long' -grinding to 170 like Cook instead of flashing to 80 like Tamim; when their bowlers improve and can consistently exert pressure; when their fielders can create pressure on the batters too in a consistent way - then the marginal decisions will start to even out.
