Pathan007
5th October 2005, 10:41
Afridi is supersubthat's freaking stupid.:12: making him supersub. that should've made sehwag a supersub. they definitley gonna miss Afridi's bowling which is pretty good against Australia.

Mercenary
5th October 2005, 10:42
at least we'll definitely see Afridi bat then and if Vettori/Murali has a nightmare with the ball then you never know they might not even complete their quota

4.6 Shoaib Akhtar to Gilchrist, FOUR, fraction short and on the middle
and leg stump line, would have been a good delivery to any other
batsmen but not this man, Gilchrist leans back and handsomely
pulls it away to the square leg fence, again one bounce and over
the ropes

1. Flintop
2. Kallis

5. Pollock
6. Akhtar
7. Sehwag
8. Afridi (if used)

5th October 2005, 11:51
why is vetorri playing when u have murali.. should have been afridi in his place.

kasoo10
5th October 2005, 11:51
They just said it. Sangakarra looks like a batsman wicket keeper not a keeper batsman!

Question is why they did not opt for a better keeper. Is he such a good batsman?

I will guess Murli.

Is Afridi in 11 players?

afridi is the super sub.

I think Afridi is substituted:

ICC World XI full substitute: Shahid Afridi (unused).

Amjid Javed

Aus 80/0 (13)

300+ possible here....!

kasoo10
5th October 2005, 11:55
If he is super subst, does it mean he goes out or comes in?

Big Mac
5th October 2005, 11:55
why is vetorri playing when u have murali.. should have been afridi in his place.

Maybe because Vettori is a better bowler than Afridi and has bowled very well against the Aussies on numerous occasions? Maybe it's just me or is that a good enough reason?

Dada
5th October 2005, 11:56
Now they should try Vettori first if he fails then they can directly call Afridi for Vettori, who can boll for wicket.

Big Mac
5th October 2005, 11:57
If he is super subst, does it mean he goes out or comes in?

He can come in at any point in the game, if he comes in for a bowler who hasn't finished his ten overs then Afridi can finish off the remaining overs for that bowler. If he is subbed on for a bowler who has finished his ten overs then Afridi cannot bowl but can field and then bat in the second innings.

I'm sure Afridi will get a bat after he's brought on for someone like Murali after his ten overs are done

Amjid Javed
5th October 2005, 11:58
possible wicket...! referred to 3rd umpire.

OTW
5th October 2005, 11:58
If you think Afridi's anywhere NEAR Vettori's calibre with the ball, you must be quite mad.

Afridi's got little control over line and length, unlike Vettori who has a near-immaculate control over that, flight and has a fantastic ODI record in recent years - particularly against Australia.

Amjid Javed
5th October 2005, 11:58
katich not out.

kasoo10
5th October 2005, 11:59
Thanks for clarification. Now I get it.

Gilly
5th October 2005, 11:59
My guess would be Afridi to dome in and bat and Murali to be subbed off after bowling. Afridi cant bowl if he replaces someone who bowls.

I am currently watching the game,

Sohaib Akhtar has bowld very well, he's gone for some runs must of the runs came from Gilchrist. Those were good deliveries, Gilchrist is in good nick. His overall bowling was good. Good bouncers, outswingers here there. He bowled with some consistent pace round 148 k, you clearly see Shoaib has gained some weigh.

How high is the roof in the Mileenium Stadium?dunno. but the commentators said that the roof is 38meter high. which comes to 125feet.

eh?!?! Dravid is a STUNNING player even in ODI's, if anybody should have made way for Afridi it ought to have been Pietersen. Saying Vettori and Dravid should be benched shows how little some folkses know :))
Dravid is a stunning player, but in Tests. I wouldn't have him in an ODI XI, especially not over the likes of Afridi. When you've already to got a starstudded lineup, why?

Nah, I want Symonds to go on and blast the bowling all over the park. We need to the Aussies to go and set something around 300 to give the World XI something to chase with their batsman-heavy lineup

As long as Mcgrath is there , chasing a score of 300 is quite risky .The World XI team has better balance and strength than the Aussies but then Mcgrath can more than compensate for that .Wolrd XI has to win this match to score a psycological edge over the Aussies .So I wish the World XI finishes off the Aussie innings as quickly as possible and then finish their target also much earlier . But as long as Symonds is there ,we cant take it easy .

48.4 Akhtar to Lee, no ball, 1 run, yorker, drives, gets an edge to fine leg 48.3 Akhtar to Lee, no run, full pitched, drives it straight to mid wicket, no run this time 48.2 Akhtar to Lee, 2 runs, full toss, drives it to long off, nicely run to retain the strike 48.1 Akhtar to Lee, SIX!!, amazing hit, pitched marginally short, Lee pulls it over midwicket with enormous amount of power, that is a meaty blow!!

Don't look at his figures he has bowld well, his first spell was very good. Mostly the 2nd spell of any bowler will go for some runs especialy at the death. The plus point was he bowled 9 overs with some pace touching 150 k !

Freddie for the last over, i hope he gets smacked, so that the english media shut up

Yes, that's the true spirit for a world XI isn't it?

That's probably the worst spell I've seen Fred bowl all year, although as long as he doesn't get injured I don't care what he bowls. Although I'd hardly say he got "smashed" apart from the one over.

Akhtar looked ok and shouldn't be written off yet but he did seem to sag after his initial spell. Vettori was very impressive and the Aussies certainly seemed very unsure against him, he even managed to get Pietersen to catch one!

I want to see how Bracken does now, I haven't seen him bowl in a while.

Somali Pirate

bruv shoaib always has the same problem so does sami they both bowl very well but dont take wickets and go for runs. this is the way it has been in the past and the tradition seems to be carrying on.

Whats does the Powerplay over mean?

The fielding captain has three powerplay's

1 block of 10 overs and 2 blocks of 5 overs. Fileding restrictions apply during these 20 overs. Only 2 players are allowed outside the ring.

The first 10 overs of the innings MUST have fileding restrictions, then the captain has to play 2 lots of 5 overs with fielding restrictions during the innings, they can be used at any time during the remaining 40 overs.
