View Full Version : Has Andrew Strauss Lost His Place In The One Day Format?
England have now got an excellent opportunity to build on with this team they have in the T20s and go on to win the world cup. It is an aggressive and balanced team and England really have not been this good for decades in the one day format.
But, has Straussy made a big mistake by opting not to go to bangladesh or the T20 world cup allowing Lumb (who should have been in the England team years ago) to maybe take over as the new force of an attacking English team with 3 brave South Africans in the top 3?

I would split captains and give Collingwood the job. Run with Lumb and if he's a big flop, there's enough time to breed a new opener before the WC - a lot of batting talent coming out of England atm.
Strauss has always been an average ODI player and he's not getting any younger. Plus, England are finally going the way of attacking in the PPs, selecting Strauss would be a step back on those grounds.

I'd say Strausser will be back for the ODIs, opening with Kieswetter.
Straussy will come back in odi team, making quickfire 20s may do in t20s but u still need a good specialist opener in odis

Kieswetter hasn't been too impressive behind the stumps whenever I have watched him (I could be wrong). But if that's the case, then you don't want him to keep in One days, In T20 you can afford a slightly rubbish keeper, but in ODi's you want somebody who is not 100% with his keeping, or atleast 90%.
Good thread...I think Luke Wright is a bit high at 6, perhaps Strauss can slot into the middle order.

Flintoff may come back to replace Wright.
^indeed, there's Freddy as well, don't think Luke Wright will be dropped though, right? did very well in the T20 WC.

I think Flintoff will come back and take bresnan's spot... So they will have wright coming in at 7.
At the top, that's a 50/50 between Strauss and Lumb for ODI's i think Strauss will get a chance first...

So Cook gets the chop I guess? From captain in one series to being dropped for the next.
Micheal Lumb has still got the best to come. I am sure he will hit big in some ODI's. I saw him about 5 years ago playing for hampshire and have always wondered what nationality he was, because he is a good opener and strong. Some of the best players in hampshire have developed because of shane Warne's positive energy.
