Former captain Majid Khan is likely to replace Haroon Rashid as the manager of the Pakistan team on its forthcoming tour of India.

"The name of Majid Khan has been recommended as manager of the Pakistan team for this month's tour of India. The name has been finalised by the concerned ministries after evaluating other candidates," informed sources in the Pakistan Cricket Board said.

Majid, who played 63 Tests, has served as manager on the 1994 tour of New Zealand. Between 1996 to 1999, he held the post of Pakistan Board's Chief Executive.

However, the sources said, Majid was reluctant to accept the offer.

"He is of the view that having worked as PCB chief executive, he can't accept a lower post. But pressure is mounting on him to go to India as manager because of more than one reason," they said.

The sources added that recent reports of indiscipline on the Australian tour have forced the decision-makers to select Majid.

"He is a strict disciplinarian and does not tolerate any non-sense. The decision-makers believe that Majid is the person who can keep a close vigil on the players.

"Needless to say that he is well respected in India also because of his strong cricketing background," they said.

"When Collins, Z Khan, I Pathan and Nehra can ask for help from the great legend...
why dont pakistani bowlers do so?
Do we like spoon-feeding?"

TTP if he can help them without asking why can't he help Paksitani bowlers. He won't get commercial contracts

Good on MJK. Salim Altaf is an interesting character by the way.

On his day Bobby was a marvellous nippy seam and swing bowler - his spell at Leeds in 1971 was outstanding!.

His brother Naeem Bokharis used to host a fine talk show called Studio One in the late 70's and early 80's. Naeem was also married to the singer Tahira Syed for a long while.

Studio One closed down after a number of guests started dying soon after their appearances on it - rumours were that it jinxed their fortunes. It was a sad end to a fine program.

(Is my memory okay? Maybe it ws called Yadash Bakhair?)

Nadeem Bokhari is his brother? I think he still runs some show on one of the channels.

Salim Altaf has become the Chief Executive of the PCB. The position formerly held by Ramiz Raja.

This is a different position.

Team Manager!

The article is only a day old.

Lahore, Pakistan: Former Pakistani fast bowler Salim Altaf was on Saturday appointed Pakistan's new cricket director, filling a post vacated by Ramiz Raja last year, officials said.

"Altaf has been appointed director cricket operations who will be in-charge of all cricketing issues and would represent Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) at International Cricket Council and Asian Cricket Council meetings," a PCB statement said.

Altaf, a 59-year-old former fast bowler, played 21 Tests and six one-day internationals for Pakistan in the 1970s.

The post had been lying vacant since Raja, a former captain of the national side, resigned in August last year.

A five-member committee consisting of Altaf, former Test wicket-keeper Imtiaz Ahmed, Naseem Ashraf, Mueen Afzal and Ali Reza, was also announced to assist the board.

no way! NO MAJID KHAN! Thank God Salim Altaf is going instead!

Majid said we will lose the tests AND the ODIs. As the true passionist said, we cannot accept any negative mentality in the team at all....not on a tour of India. Keep Majid as far way from the team as possible until after the series.
