According to information collected by the police, on Wednesday evening, around 10 Pakistanis came by speed boats to the coast near Colaba in South Mumbai from Karachi

I have heard a joke about Indian police, some elephant accepting that he is the wolf, but this is way beyond the joke. That attack still not over and culprit has been named.
From all account the gun men all seem to be quite young, how can a group of young Pakistani's know their way around Mumbai coast lines, streets and it's top hotels so easily....and take out some of the most senior cops in the city while there at it?
Even if i was Indian, I'd be embarrassed at listening to the drivel coming out from the government about who is behind all this at this point.
They still don't reallly know who was behing the 1993 bombings, had to wait for bollywood's conclusion on that one a few years later..
In a way the only country's to benefit from this is the US & UK where investors will boycott the India boom and return to beefing up the US dolor & pound once again.
I havent really followed any of this because its the same old 'vitriolic' reporting that you see when something like this happens....

Indian naval official will not rule out Somali pirates role
KOCHI: A top Indian naval official has said that he would not rule out the role of Somali pirates in the terror strikes in Mumbai in view of the
recent action by the Navy against the sea bandits in the Gulf of Aden.
Asked whether there can be any connection between the pirates and the attacks in Mumbai, Vice Admiral Sunil K Damle, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command, said such a thing cannot be ruled out.
"I cannot say but I will not rule it out. I cannot say whether there is connection or not. All I am saying is that we very strongly suspect such a thing can happen," he told reporters on board the INS Tir.
"It is a fact that our action against the Somali pirates in the recent past has got the Indian Navy into focus particularly in that area", he said, adding this also brought in a danger...Indian Navy being targeted by these people also in addition to the terrorists," he said.
"These bad elements unfortunately have a fair amount of illegal money at their disposal. Even if Somali pirates were not taking direct action against us, there is every possibility of them pumping in the money into such organisations which are capable of taking terrorist action against us", he said.
On reports that the attackers had sneaked in to Mumbai through sea routes, he said "we have already started investigating the vessels which are considered suspicious on the west coast, particularly in the vicinity of Mumbai".
He said the Navy has stepped up security not only as a result of what is happening in Mumbai. "We have already taken security measures because we feel they could be target of those who feel threatened by the naval action. We have tightened various kinds of security measures", he said.

The Pakistani foreign misinster??? has said that India should be careful. Even the Samjhota Express incident was later found out to be internal matter (Indian army personale involved). He also said we have evidence that foreign fire arms were found in FATA area but instead of accusing they are talking to India via diplomatic channels and that is what India should be doing.

PARIS — A day after the terror attacks in Mumbai that killed over 100 people, one question remained as impenetrable as the smoke that still billowed from two of the city’s landmark hotels: who carried out the attacks?
The Indian authorities say they captured some of the attackers, so some answers may emerge soon. But for now, their identities remain a mystery. Surviving witnesses recalled the gunmen as masked young men in unremarkable T-shirts and jeans, some heavily armed, wearing backpacks filled with weapons. The only claim of responsibility came from a group that may not even exist.
The assaults represented a marked departure in scope and ambition from other recent terrorist attacks in India, which have singled out local people rather than foreigners and hit single rather than multiple targets.
The Mumbai assault, by contrast, was seemed directed at foreigners, involved hostage taking and was aimed at multiple and highly symbolic targets.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of India said the attacks probably had “external linkages,” reflecting calculations among Indian officials that the level of planning, preparation and coordination could not have been achieved without help from experienced terrorists. But some security experts insisted the style of the attacks and the targets in Mumbai suggested the militants were likely to be Indian Muslims, with a domestic agenda.
The e-mail message taking responsibility that was sent to Indian media outlets on Wednesday night said the attackers were from a group called Deccan Mujahedeen. Deccan is a neighborhood of the Indian city of Hyderabad. The word also describes the middle and south of India, which is dominated by the Deccan Plateau. Mujahedeen is the commonly used Arabic word for holy fighters.
But security experts drew a blank on any such organization. Sajjan Gohel, a security expert in London, called it a “front name” and said the group was “nonexistent.”
An Indian security official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to be identified said the name suggested ties to a group called Indian Mujahedeen, which has been implicated in a string of bombing attacks in India killing about 200 people this year alone.
On Sept. 15, an e-mail message published in Indian newspapers and said to have been sent by representatives of Indian Mujahedeen threatened potential “deadly attacks” in Mumbai. The message warned counterterrorism officials in the city that “you are already on our hit-list and this time very, very seriously.”
Several high-ranking law enforcement officials, including the chief of the antiterrorism squad and a commissioner of police, were, indeed, reported killed in the attacks in Mumbai.
With relations long strained between India and Pakistan, particularly over the disputed territory of Kashmir, suspicions turned toward Al Qauda, or Pakistani militant backing. The Indian security official said the attackers likely had ties to Lashkar-e-Taiba, a guerrilla group run by Pakistani intelligence in the conflict with India in the disputed territory of Kashmir. On Thursday, the group denied involved in the Mumbai attacks. India also blamed Lashkar-e-Taiba for a suicide assault on its Parliament by gunmen in December 2001 that led to a perilous military standoff with Pakistan.
The Indian official also suggested the foot-soldiers in the attack might have emerged from an outlawed militant group of Islamic students. Photographs from security cameras showed some youthful attackers carrying assault rifles and smiling as they began the operation.
Christine Fair, senior political scientist and a South Asia expert at the RAND Corporation, was careful to say that the identity of the terrorists could not yet be known. But she pointed to India’s domestic problems, and long tensions between Hindus, who make up about 80 percent of India’s population of 1.13 billion, and Muslims, who make up 13.4 percent.
“There are a lot of very, very angry Muslims in India,” Ms. Fair said. “The economic disparities are startling and India has been very slow to publicly embrace its rising Muslim problem. You cannot put lipstick on this pig. This is a major domestic political challenge for India.
“The public political face of India says, ‘Our Muslims have not been radicalized,’ she said. “But the Indian intelligence apparatus knows that’s not true. India’s Muslim communities are being sucked into the global landscape of Islamist jihad.”
“Indians will have a strong incentive to link this to Al Qaeda,” she said. “But this is a domestic issue. This is not India’s 9/11.”

A few interpretations of the Mumbai terror attacks are doing the rounds.
One of these came from Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who shot off a thinly veiled warning to Pakistan on Thursday of costs if it cannot stop cross-border terrorism. And if Pakistan-based terrorists did in fact mastermind the bloodbath in Mumbai, as he implied, then they may have hit the bull's eye. Whoever has carried out the attacks has dispatched relations between the two countries, after they had shown significant signs of improvement, back to the more familiar square one.
Disruption of India-Pakistan ties at this juncture entails serious fallout in Afghanistan. That's what one sequence of recent events indicates. It began with US President-elect Barack Obama signalling interest in an early resolution of the Kashmir dispute. An implicit India-Pakistan rapprochement would relieve pressure on Pakistan Army, which would get a freer hand to meet the challenges posed by the Taliban.
Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ali Mahmoud Qureishi reflected how far this rapprochement could go to the detriment of extremists such as the Taliban. In his condemnation of the horrific bloodbath in Mumbai, Mr Qureishi, who was in Delhi on Thursday, disclosed that Islamabad wants to set up a hotline between the intelligence chiefs of the two countries and he had said so to his Indian counterpart. On Tuesday, the home secretaries of the countries had wound up a successful meeting in Islamabad with a somewhat similar agenda.
Were those that felt threatened by an India-Pakistan strategy on terrorism watching all this closely? Was the Mumbai massacre needed to drive a wedge between the two? Dr Manmohan Singh's masked warning to Pakistan indicated he did not see the trap. In a televised address, prompted by relentless opposition criticism in an election year of his alleged softness against terrorism, he declared, “the well-planned and well-orchestrated attacks, probably (had) external linkages”. They were intended to create a sense of panic, by choosing high profile targets and indiscriminately killing foreigners.
“We are not prepared to countenance a situation in which the safety and security of our citizens can be violated with impunity by terrorists,” Dr Singh asserted, his voice frail with lack of sleep. But his words were unusually sharp. “We will take up strongly with our neighbours that the use of their territory for launching attacks on us will not be tolerated, and that there would be a cost if suitable measures are not taken by them.”
Dr Singh promised to curb the flow of funds to suspect organisations and went on to warn that India would “restrict the entry of suspects into the country.” Did he mean India had been thus far giving visas to suspects or did he imply a suspension of people to people contact with neighbours, possibly as an acceptable cost for the additional security, if that is what he gets? Dr Singh threatened to use a draconian National Security Act to go “after these individuals and organisations and make sure that every perpetrator, organiser and supporter of terror, whatever his affiliation or religion may be, pays a heavy price for these cowardly and horrific acts against our people.”
That is one immediate fallout of the Mumbai tragedy. At another level the method of the violence can be seen as a combination of Islamabad's Lal Masjid standoff for the easy endurance displayed by the terrorists and the recent attack on the Marriott Hotel, which underscored sheer brazen precision. Imprints are also discernible of the murderous attack on Kabul's Serena Hotel followed by the more devastating attack on the Indian embassy in Afghanistan.
The militants’ seizure of Mumbai's iconic Taj Mahal hotel and another five-star property in the posh Colaba district, the taking of dozens of foreign and domestic hostages with reported focus on American, British and Jewish foreigners, the hijacking of a police car by the armed men, their slow, defiant ride in it and the casual, brutal spraying of bullets into panic-stricken people on the street add a new dimension to the terror that stalks India today. Most TV channels blamed the Lashkar-i-Tayyaba though the group has denied any role. There was mention also of an unheard of group called Deccan Mujahideen as possible perpetrators.
The scale of the terror attack was military-like in its scope, inviting comparisons with an al Qaeda plot. But military training is not the preserve of Muslim extremists any longer, as the recent arrest of a lieutenant colonel of the Indian army has revealed. Before the Mumbai terror plot unfolded on Wednesday night, Maharashtra's Anti Terrorist Squad was pursuing solid leads into the involvement of the colonel and several Hindu extremists in bombing incidents eslewhere. Two of the police officers killed in Wednesday's shootout at the Taj Mahal hotel had been heading the probe into the anti-Muslim Malegaon blasts. The suspects were also being questioned for apparent involvement in the Samjhauta Express bombing, for which Pakistan was initially blamed. That probe may now remain shrouded in mystery.
Everything makes perfect sense now to me ! Indian army along with some intelligence agencies alongwith some western powers possibly hatched this plot to halt the progressive being made between pakistani and indian governments .

I am just wondering that how come all the terrorists who are insanely being referred as Pakistanis who came from Karachi, knew in and out about the city. Taj mahal hotel manager said that terrorists seemed to be very well familiar about the basement and kitchen area as they came from the back doors, terrorists knew about the Jewsih settlement building, terrorists knew hospital and other locations as well. It's been 24 hours since they have captured the alive terrorists, but still nothing constructive have been made public. All we are hearing is Pakistan and LeT from the very first gun shot. It certainly looks like an insider job, a big conspiracy, someone in the Indian government, or their locals have assisted these guys to carry out the carnage....or probably they actually are Indians and now they are just waiting and making up further stories to throw dirt on Pakistan!

What i am certain about is that these attacks are carried out by Indians. Indian government knows that their could be huge civil unrest so it's much easier to blame foriegners to avoid riots (as it has happened in the past).

Is there any other domestic non Islamic group inside India which could have a motivation for doing this? This is just wierd to be honest, the Islamic terrorists, fighters have normally only targetted the Indian security forces of just Indian nationals in the past. But this was a deliberate attempt to specifically target only westerners, i wonder what could they be trying to achieve? Personally speaking, this is to sophisticated an operation for the likes of any kashmiri based group to carry out. I think this operation took a year or more of planning. To strike so many targets at once with such a small time gap in between. Thats just insane efficiency.

For the past many weeks, the biggest story in India was involvement of Indian Military Intelligence officers in orchestrated acts of terrorism against Muslims to create a Hindu-Muslim riot situation as well as to create a justification for war against Pakistan. Many Indian army officers were caught
and Indian Police was forced to work deeper into finding more BJP, Bajrang Dal and RSS terrorists in Indian military and Intelligence setup. This story had created a serious panic in Indian military and their Fascist patrons in Hindu Zionists. Something had to be done to divert the attention of the world and Indian public from acts of terrorism by Hindu Hardliners. .....Then comes the Mumbai Massacre.
Even when the shootings were going on in hotels, Indian media and army were blaming Pakistan for the attacks. The game is clear and sinister. The Indian Intelligence have diverted the global attention towards another issue where they would blame Pakistan for this slaughter and use Barack Obama's doctrine of attacks on Pakistan to encircle Pakistan from both sides. It is such a shame that Pakistani media is not highlighting this issue and is only repeating what Indians want the world to see and
believe.
There is no such group in India as Daccan Mujahideen.
In the coming days, Pakistan should prepare for a high risk threat response as Indians would go to any limit to open another front against Pakistan to divert the local and world attention from their internal fascist elements in Hindu Zionists and military intelligence. Someone sent me that email. I am deeply suspicious by this whole thing. I repeat, i personally do not think any Kashmiri based group has the intelligence or the sophistication to carry out such a highly coordinated and efficient attack like this. The attackers had tip top inside information and knew each and everything they were doing and dealing with, this has to have some serious inside help.
Thank THE LORD I am not there right now. I took 5 domestic flights in India- Bangalore-Cochin-Bangalore-Delhi-Mumbai-Bangalore. Life could have been hell for me if this happened 4 months ago.Quote:

But foreign agencies cannot just come in without approval. If they are allowed then it may look bad that Indian (or local) agencies cannot do the work. They cannot know too much more than the locals.
