First thing I need is translation to that really amazing song in bhool bhullaya the bengali version.
what I understand is it is more like " I am yours and something like that"
جاگن والیاں رجّ کے لٹیا اے،
سوئے تسیں وی او، سوئے اسیں وی آں۔

i want to post one of my favourite bangla songs. it is called "melay jaire" (meaning: "going to fair", referring to the fair during the first day of bengali calendar).
this song is widely played during the first day of bengali calendar. it is a popular song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHWKf...eature=related.
check the song only, the video is random i think.Last edited by wasi90lk; 11th February 2011 at 08:32.

Nabi More Pursahmani, Nabi more Shorra Ayy Gooni....and word 'paaki'Last edited by Cover Drive; 11th February 2011 at 09:57.

fixed.
this is hard bangla. in other words, this is not the way normally bengalis talk. this song is a religious song, referring to muhammed (SAS).
nabi mor poroshmoni = prophet, my touchstone.
nabi mor shonar khoni = prophet, my gold mine.
in urdu, you people say "mera" (my, mine). in bangla, we say "mor" (sounds like "more") or "amar".Last edited by wasi90lk; 11th February 2011 at 12:22.

i see. so it is written by junaid jamshed and not that poet. my mistake.
paaki means "bird", if i am not wrong. it sounds like "pakhi". can you tell me where did you hear "paaki"? then i can tell the exact meaning.
ami bangla bhalo bashi = i love bangla.
i see. i did not watch the movie. is it a bengali movie?
shudu je tomar = only yours.
i am translating these songs, wait.Last edited by wasi90lk; 11th February 2011 at 10:27.

first song: baula ke banailo re (baula, who made him?)
description: i think this song is about a person, who became a singer. "baul" is the name of a group. you can learn more about "baul" here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baul.
the lyrics of this song is repetitive.
Ke banailo re
Baula ke banailo re
Hason raja re baula
Ke banailo re (baula, who made him? Who made hason raja?)
Hason Raja hoise pagol vab bodol er karone (hason raja became crazy, because of mood swing)
Bondhu bihin Hason Raja (friendless hason raza)
Onno nahi mane baula (accepts food shortage)
Hason Raja gaise gaan haate taali diya 2x (hason raja sang song while clapping)
Shokole daraiya shune 2x (everyone listens while standing)
Hason Rajar biya baula (hason raja’s marriage, baula).
i do not think i have translated very well, but these are approximately accurate i hope.Last edited by wasi90lk; 11th February 2011 at 13:28.

You know more
It was in that same Nasheed, sentence was like pakhi gai sui mooriya.
Also any word which will come handy when having heated argument with a Bengali in real life ? Have a club mate and his flighted delivery does beat me so need a aggressive word for him please

pakhi gese moriya = bird died.
there are many bengali words you can use. you may want to check this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXWSZSmb8BU.
some of my favourite slangs are: jaora, bhodai, modon. a lot of urdu slangs are similar to bangla slangs i think, you can use urdu slangs too.Last edited by wasi90lk; 11th February 2011 at 11:16.

i learnt some bengali from a bengali friend
my favourite phrase, tabha mari daath filai da moo, i use it regularly when arguin wit bengali mates. sorry cant spell it proparly.
he taught me more, amar naam, tur naam, amitomake balo bashi, i think mishti is sweets.
but the first phrase always makes people laugh. they also seem to take the mick out of anyone from molvibazar, call them fuga?? i think, say that they made a mochi their mayor or something.

Is there any difference between the Bengali you speak and the Bengali used in West Bengal?

Great thread. I have recently rediscovered my love for Bangla music. Especially the slow/sad tunes. I think Bengali is the perfect language for sad songs. One of my favourites.
