Dravid vs Kallis vs. Ponting, who will end up higher?

Who will end up with more centuries and the most runs?

I think this is really amazing coincidental competition.

All 3 started their career around same time, they might end up their career around same time too.

    Dravid
    http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/eng...;type=allround

    159 matches, 12979 runs, 36 100's. 38 years old.

    Ponting
    http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/eng...;type=allround

    156 matches, 12495 runs, 39 100's. 36 years old.

    Kallis
    http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/eng...;type=allround

    147 matches, 12005 runs, 40 100's. 36 years old.

Personally, you all know where my bias lies, the 2nd wind for Dravid clearly indicates he is more likely to end up with 2nd highest in number telly. However, BIG wind for Kallis for last few years and more number of years in hand (1-2 years more than Dravid) may push for more votes for Kallis.

Ponting badly needs 2nd wind to compete with these two, one more bad series (against India) may shorten his career. For Dravid, he can still play 2 more seasons after Aus. tour. If he will have bad series against Aus. he may hang up his boots (unlikely). SA plays Lanka, NZ, England and then Aus. So, I think Kallis will at least play all these.

So, I expect very close competition between Kallis and Dravid. If Ponting gets his 2nd wind then add 3rd one.

Who do you think will end up higher than who?

Would have taken Kallis an year ago but after Dravid's phenomenal performance in England where every other batsman including Tendulkar got blown away, my respect for The Wall has increased by 10 folds. Dravid over Kallis, Punter, Sangakkara, Laxman, Yousuf in tests for me.

Statistically Kallis will go ahead but Dravid is quality.

Kallis unless Ponting recovers his form.

Few years back i thought Ponting will outscore sachin in number of test centuries.
Anyway Ponting will be facing our bowlers soon.

I am surprised lot of people are choosing Kallis, keep in mind RSD already is 970 runs ahead of Kallis. That will take whole very good year and and half for Kallis. Also, keep in mind that if RSD will continue to play after Aus. tour, then we will be playing at home for few series, if I am not mistaking.

I say it's even tougher task for Kallis to surpass RSD.

I think Ponting is out of race now. Dravid-Kallis will battle it out and eventually Kallis will win as he has age on his side. Dravid will be pushed by selectors in a while unfortunately. Dravid's future actually depends on Sachin. When Tendulkar retires, Dravid will be made to retire automatically whether he wants or not

agree for the most part with this post but...

i think he will be forced out before sachin retires tbh. the next series india loses and dravid isn't a one man army, is the series he'll be made the scapegoat and get the axe (imho).

^That was more likely to happen some months ago. Not now though, Dravid has established himself as a true great of the game and not just Indian great. He can't be mistreated now, will retire as gracefully as Tendulkar from test Cricket.

Lol, so he's the best because he saved India a few times. And there's the confession folks - you can only be the best if you play for India.

Perhaps, but it seems to be the general sentiment on this forum. It seems like only Indian batsmen can produce match-winning, match-saving or memorable knocks.

The statement is silly because it's not like Ponting or Kallis haven't done the same for their teams.

Scored a century in each innings in January this year, batting with a rib injury, to save the match for SA and put them in a winning position. He's done it lots of times, but Indians tend to forget that If it was Tendu or Dravid then they'd be harping on about it for years.

Kallis for me, Ponting we can see how much he is struggling without Langer & Hayden on the top and ofcourse the lack of Mcgrath's, Warne's etc showing he was only a match winner when he was surrounded by some of the greatest players of all time ... I keep saying this had Ponting been playing for a side like India he wouldnt have lasted even half the matches, his career wouldve been sealed a long time agoo..Having said that I do hope Ponting scores big today, rooting for Oz to win here..

Ponting is out of the race.

Dravid is going to retire this year or the next.

Kallis will still play for five or so years I think, he might play 200 Tests.

He is fundamentally aware of his aura within the team. His exhilaration infects them.

They're already the best in their departments

Ponting - Best captain of this era
Kallis - Arguably the best all-rounder of this era
Dravid - Highest Run scorer among the 3

As a cricketer though Kallis > Dravid & Ponting.

which is clearly wrong since I gave you an example. Another is that his first test century came IN Aus to save the match for SA.

I'm not going to trawl through every match in my memory to give you more examples, since my point has already been proven A player is only great and/or produces memorable knocks if he hails from India. Your Yusuf Pathan example proves this.

In the Ind/SA series last year, every Indian talks about Sachin surviving against Steyn, but none of them know that Kallis won man of the match 2/3 times, and man of the series. You don't win the most man of the matches, and the 2nd most man of the series awards in test history by not producing cracking performances. Tendu with all his centuries and 20 years of playing can't even match that.

Even when people are discussing great bowlers, a lot of Indians will find a way of bringing Zaheer Khan into it

Every Hundred is special . How many extra ordinary hundreds has Dravid scored in his 15 year old Test Career? Only 2 I suppose , both against Australia , one each at Kolkata & Adelaide . Its not like Dravid has scored 30 special tons .

Yup same with Dravid. I am not applying double standards. That is why i have said Lara and Tendulkar were in a different league, then comes Ponting but he has consistency issues. Dravid and Kallis are greats but not quite in the league of Lara and Tendulkar or even Ponting when it comes to producing ass kicking knocks.

Again, quit pretending. Comment in reply to Jo Don's comment that people consider only Tendulkar's hundreds as match winning or special. Oh yea he does produce them special ones. Kallis DOES NOT.

I wish Ponting & Dravid scores big in upcoming oz tour much like 2003 where both of them scored heavily.

    Lol'ed at the comment...

Straight away went to cricinfo and checked...

Bunny indeed...dismissed Ponting 50% times in test matches he's played against them...the rest 50% is Bhajji plus Sehwag...

I think dravid has two more years in him and tendulker probably has three more. Dravid will score like 15000 and tendulker will cross 18500.

Ponting is very close to his end and Kallis still has three more years. Kallis and dravid will be neck to neck when they finish. Around 15000 mark.
