He may not be everyone's favourite commentator but I admire him for voicing his opinions and not sitting on the fence.

He won't take any crap if past record is anything to go by. He does make a few unnecessarily provocative comments but on the whole I would think most fans including English ones will appreciate his commentary as he will give his real opinion rather than pander to the English commentators like Ramiz does.

athers and aamer, probably the most dour cadence of the commentary combos but very knowledgable.
and its nice to see someone back their views.

Example:
AS: I think Ajmals announcement about the Teesra has confused the English - hanging on the back foot and unsure what the bowl is going to do.
Atherton: I think Eng didn't take the Teesra talk seriously at all, they've just been knocked over by a brilliant bowling performance
AS: Well, I think the announcement worked.
hahahahah

-
17th January 2012, 19:20 #17
I am tired of Rambo and his comments about ruling the roast. I say that he would say that within 15 mins after he gets in to the comm box.
-
17th January 2012, 19:40 #18
He's such a legend! Really liked listening to him today. And he didn't really rip into Athers, both just voiced their opinions, but with mutal respect and admiration. Hope they pair up more often in this series.
Rambo wasn't bad either. But could've been a smoother operator today.
Worse was Beefy. Hardly said anything.
-
17th January 2012, 19:42 #19
I like him when is in in com box..he says a lot of good stuff and doesn't back out..the problem start when he is on one of those shows such as bolain kya bakwas hai and he becomre a little bit of rashid latif and sarfaraz nawaz.

Prefer Sohail to Raja to be honest. Raja just comes out with cliches and mundane lingo and hardly anything to disprove something that's obvious.
Sohail lays down the stats and isn't scared of backing up what he says.

This which I posted above
Another example:
Atherton started mentioning the fact that many in Pakistan have expressed frustration with Misbah ultra defensive, safety first approach.
AS stopped him right there and said, well they have achieved a 60% win rate in tests and 78% in ODIs, so what is there to complain about?
Athers didn't really know what to add at that point other than agree haha

I don't agree with most of the the stuff he says, but he has his own opinion and says it like he sees it. We should respect that. Different opinions, points of view and ideas cause for better commentary. Most of the time during games involving subcontinent teams i drown out the commentary. you just know what is going to be said.
-
18th January 2012, 02:45 #32
He sure also made Athers clueless when he persisted with the notion of having Grame Swann to bowl early on.
And yes, he's not most of exciting commentators with all that enthusiasm but he sure is one of my favourite commentator from the time I'm listening to his commentary. Straight to the point.

-

He's actually been quite diplomatic so far in this series. I would expect him to start letting his mouth go once the game gets down to the nitty gritty.
Incidentally, good thinking by Sky to keep him away from Botham in the commentary box. Ramiz is much better suited to saying yes sir, no sir to Beefy. If Amir and Botham were in the same box we'd have WWIII on our hands

Of the three Pakistani commentators Aamir's technical knowledge is far superior to Waqar and Rameez.
He may not use flash words, or have catchphrases, or try to be friendly with the other commentators but he knows his stuff.
He says it how he sees it and I respect him for that.

Amir Sohail along with Waqar are very good commentators. What I like about Sohail is he keeps bringing up the Teesra even though Ajmal hasn't even bowled it, putting more doubts into the fragile minds of English batsman, I hope the rest of our media take a cue from Sohail and start writhing about the Teesra and the difficulties of scoring on this pitch before the English innings.

I also remember Symcox pwning Sohail about the Wallabies (rugby) and sohail was looking in the zoo. classic stuff!! i wonder if there;s a video on youtube

Aamir Sohail's commentary is as rash and irrational as was his behavior during the Bangalore WC QF in 1996 when he showed a fist to Venkatesh Prasad and then immediately got bowled.
Today ENG were still 9 wickets down when he asked Bumble, "Would this defeat leave any mental scars to England team?" I mean ***.
He has nothing other than "in your face" "pro-Pakistan wannabe" attitude which does not suit a professional commentator. Someone needs to remind him that he no longer wears the helmet.

He's as bad as the rest of them.
The purpose of a commentator is to provide insightful analysis. He is an irksome character who doesn't have much to say. No better than Rameez who tries to come across as a nice guy, but still has nothing to say!

And I don't understand why he tries to be Sir Ian equal? He is nowhere near the calibre of Beefy's cricketing talents - both playing and analytical. I think PP'ers think just because he said some stuff against Beefy to some GEO host, that there is some animosity between the two. I doubt Botham even knows anything exists. It is not like the real stuff that exists between Botham and Chappelli.

The difference between Aamir Sohail and Ramiz in the commentary box is evident – I prefer Sohail as a commentator – he is not shy to voice his opinions and doesn’t necessarily look to side with his fellow commentator – he sticks up for what he believes in rather than ranting on like Rambo at times … Atherton asked him why the fans are so frustrated at Misbah’s brand of cricket back in Pakistan despite the team winning matches – he defended his answer and approach with logic and Atherton resigned from the debate – if Ramiz was asked the same question he’d have been ranting on with the fellow commentator about this and that… Aamir Sohail once said 5 years ago that Hafeez and Taufeeq were the best opening pair in the country from the people who he’s coached at the Academy – he got his assessment spot on in the end and had the final laugh
