I think FA realized there isn't any transfer market in International Football.

Roy is the sort of manager who thinks a 0-0 draw is heroic. He is your 4-4-2, defensive, play it up to the big target man type of manager. England need to move with the times, 4-2-3-1, high pressing, pass and move like most of continental Europe play is the way to go. This will be a disaster. The FA are only appointing him because he buys into the project at Burton and they won't have to pay millions in compensation.

He won't turn it down. He showed an interest from day one and I expect him to be in charge in Euros.

No suprise that Harry has turned it down.

Gareth Bale LM or Downing/Ashley Young
    Luka Modric or Carrick/Lampard/Gerrard

For two positions he would turn down the opportunity to manage his country?

    How about...

Wayne Rooney up front or Adebayour/ Defoe/ Saha?

Ashley Cole at LB or Assoue Ekouto/ Danny Rose?

Ferdinand and Terry or Kaboul and Gallas?

Oxolade Chaimberlain/ Theo Walcott or Aaron Lennon?

Rooney is not a good player for England and compare his international stats with Adebayor.
Adebayor (18 Goals in 43 APPS) Rooney (28 goals in 73 APPS)

Ekotto has been better than Cole over the course of the season.

Ferdinand and Terry won't play together.

Chamberlain is over-rated as he has hardly played and Walcott isn't as good as Lennon in my opinion but it's close.

I predict him to be most hated man in England on 24 June 2012.

Get ready for his now legendary face rubs on touchline while his team is playing 1960s style football.

When did Harry even turn it down? ..and he would turn down the honor of coaching the national team because they don't have Bale and Modric who, just by the way, might not even be in the UCL in next season.

Hodgson hasn't any major honours in his managerial career though. He has won a few Scandinavian domestic trophies and has been relatively successful with mid-table clubs but there is no way he will be able to handle the expectations of a country like England, with its delusional press and fanbase. He called the UAE players 'basically lazy' during his time there.

However I agree with Harry, he is a media whore who is so far up the journalists backsides in this country its unreal. I kinda expect a disastrous Euro 2012, only for the saviour, Del Boy himself to take up the job.

Euro 2012 with this England team and their tricky group was always going to be a non-starter.

Whoever comes in is being hired to build a team for future tournaments.

The FA have gone cheap with Woy and I doubt he is the answer.

I am not saying Roy Hodgson is a world class manager BUT he is achieved a lot more than Harry Redknapp has, therefore out of the 2 he is the better candidate (on paper)

Can't wait to see the English getting knocked out of the Euros no matter who is in charge. Having Woy in charge will make it even more likely but perhaps less humorous as he seems like a decent bloke.

I wish Roy every success. Yes things did not work out for him at Liverpool but he had shadow of King Kenny hanging over him who has not done much better despite spending 100+ millions.

DV has an excuse, you don't really.

On the point of supporting other English clubs, I think my stance is more logical than all the other hypocrites who come out with bs about "I want the English club to win, blah, blah, blah" - I care about Newcastle United, I do not care or like these other English clubs (there are exceptions) throughout the domestic season BUT all of a sudden I am expected to cheer them on because they are playing a team based abroad? That is frankly ridiculous and absurd

I find it laughable there are people who hate Chelsea throughout the year, call them scum, Russian whores etc etc BUT they suddenly love them because they are playing Barcelona of Spain, total and utter idiocy

As for the national side, don't care for them and doubt I ever will, unless there is a Newcastle link. I liked them when Shearer was captain and involved BUT after that, nope - in my eye's (and many, many other Newcastle fans) it is a team for the southerners and we don't feel any connection to them therefore there is no support for them

I instead prefer to watch good football on the International stage and prefer to see my team's players do well

unless their using them as bait to lure out the bigger fish, it must mean arry's turned the job down and his only choice left is roy hodgson as brendan rodgers and martin o neil aren't english enough.

He works well as making teams playing to their sums of their parts and getting most out of his players so should be ideal for him

Yeah, I don't buy the discourse that Harry was never approached.

I reckon they had a phone chat with Harry, he said no, and he offered a gentlemen's agreement that they'd pretend they never talked. That way nobody is undermined.

Woy if not a last resort is a bit of a nearly penultimate resort.

I doubt Harry would turn the job down if offered, since Capello left his face has been twitching faster than ever before in excitement

I suspect as the guys on MOTD2 said cost was the factor, the compensation they would have had to pay Spurs would have been hefty so they went for the less costly option

It has been reported it would have cost the FA around £10 million to get Harry.

I would have liked to see Harry in charge, the guy is a great character while Roy is dull. Another excuse to watch this legendary interview again.

Harry is a *****, kind of wanted him to get the job so when he inevitably failed the media that love him so much would have had to turn on him

If Fergie spoke about other team's players the amount that Harry does then he would rightly get blasted in the media yet this guy get's a free pass, quote whore that he is

now England fans have their excuse set up for them when they go crashing out. "If we had Harry we would have won"

Good luck to Roy though, I hope they give him a long run and get over this fantasy of England being world betters. They are at best a Quarter Final team in major world tournaments. If he gets them there he will have done an excellent job. Through the group stage = a good job. Coming third in the group = didn't over perform or underperform.

Harry is certainly a better manager than Hodgson; The way Harry has transformed the likes of Bale and Modric into world class players is scary.

Once England get kicked out of the Euro's at the QF then they will beg Harry to take over but Harry again; Will turn them down.

That is absolutely nonsense, just compare their managerial records and you will see it isn't even close

As for Bale and Modrid, I have a sneaky suspicion they would be top players regardless of the manager, Modric especially was already a top player before he joined Spurs

I see the English media are up to their usual pathetic self

Firstly by constantly asking about their media darling Harry Redknapp and secondly by asking him about playing in South Africa during Apartheid

    Harry isn't a media darling.

The media love Harry because he is a great manager.

Jeez, you really do love throwing the word great around so casually

Alex Ferguson is a great manager, Jose Mourinho is a great manager etc BUT Harry Redknapp a great manager? Nope

he is not better, but his style could suit England this time, thats why I was for him, but ur post is stupid... Hodgson is better, and the Liverpool career does not make Harry better than Hogdson

Have you seen the way Hodgsons teams play?
Winning leagues in **** leagues like Finland and Switzerland is nothing to shout about.

Harry took Pompey to win the FA Cup; He went to OT and won.
If Fergie was in charge of that Pompey side; Would he of gone to OT and beat United?

Steve Keane took his team to OT and won doesn't mean he is any good. One off result don't mean a thing. Fact is Harry the great is one of select few to take two teams down.

Clearly you have fallen for the BS by the southern press, I understand it has hurt them because their darling didn't get the job BUT quite clearly the guy with the better CV got the job, deal with it

The following is a post I got from another forum, sums up how well Roy Hodgson has done as a manager

    Successes:
1976 Halmstad - relegation contenders to League winners 1976 and 1979
    1985 Malmo - 5 league titles
1990 Neuchatel Xamax - beat Celtic and Real Madrid in Europe with a team that has only twice won the Swiss league.
1992 Switzerland - qualified for 1994 World Cup losing only 1 game in a qualification group containing Italy and Portugal. Qualified for Euro 96 and got Switzerland to 3rd in the World.
1995 Inter Milan - Got a bad Inter team to 3rd and the UEFA Cup Final
2000 Copenhagen - Took a team from 7th to Champions
2004 Viking - Relegation threatened to 5th and UEFA Cup, beating Monaco.
2006 Finland - Best ever qualification performance.
2007 Fulham - Relegation certainties to UEFA Cup Semi.

    Failures:
1982 Bristol City caretaker of broke club
1997 Blackburn 13th to 6th but then left at bottom of table in December 2008 after £20m spent
Now go an look at Harry Redknapp's CV and try to see if you can even come close to Roy Hodgson's never mind bettering it

This is all true. Not Hodgson though, i'd rather have a boiled egg in charge than Roy.

Redknapp would bottle it big time as England boss, the minute his Tottenham side stopped being dark horses and became pace setters for third place, they've been about as formidable as a leper in a wind tunnel.

I think his record is second only to Ramsey.

The media wanted Redknapp and the FA ignored them, so the media will not be fans of Roy until (or if he ever) gets a couple of big wins.

Clearly the FA wanted Roy to build a new team and will give him until Euro 2016. Expectations have lowered which is good.

England can win Euro 2012, but with young players like Chamberlain, Walcott, Cleverly and other youngsters given the chance they can suprise all of us, but Germany, Spain and of course Netherlands have a well settled side so it would be a great challenge with or without Redknapp or any other coach...

Switzerland and Finland is one thing but managing the expectations of the England national team is totally different, this will be a car crash.

Not that I'm supporting Del Boy Harry, though it would have been funny to see the journos turn on the media whore that is Redknapp.

We can still see this happen. Roy's England fail to qualify out of their group and he gets the sack after Euros. FA hire Harry to manage England and Harry's England fail to qualify for World Cup 2014.
