Saad Ali : An attacking middle order batsman

The youngster led Pakistan u19s to victory against Australia u19s in the second youth odi the other day.

He made 36 runs from 33 balls, striking over 100.

In the warm up match today against england u19s he came into bat when Pakistan were 26/3 and he has taken the team to 170/3 after 36 overs with another impressing youngster Imam ul Haq.

Saad is currently on 78 from 70 balls, again striking over 100. Good to see he didnt go inntuk tuk mode after the mini collapse up front.

No hype, just to inform those interested.

    Very good question

@MMHS rates Saad Ali very highly and Saad has good FC and List A stats . He may tell about Saad's game against pacers.

Ahsan , Saad and Saud are best batting talents from Sindh.

Thankfully Saud batted at number 4 today and made 56 good runs. Should have made a century when he was set .

But Saad coming so low isn't right. He and Saud should bay in top 5.

Faisal should bat at 3 and Saud and Saad should bat at 4 and 5. And Anwar Ali at 7

This move has not got to do with corruption . More to do with seniority and with Anwar being a national player .

Anwar is a big hitter / finisher in limited overs cricket. Should bat at 7 or 8 in Fc cricket.

But seniority tag, pakistan caps etc . Unprofessional.

Can't wait to see Misbah in action tomorrow.

On a serious note, despite his struggles, he doesn't hop around as much as Team Man.

Team Man has better survival instincts though.

Don't really see Anwar as a tyrant.

More of the culture... it seems like its the norm for seniors to prioritise themselves. Which is why many TTFs play at the expense of promising youngsters, or bat higher up the order, etc. It's a constant cycle. Today's youngsters will be doing the same in 10-15 years.

Difficult to tell actually - my knowledge is based on Youtube (or may be Geo clippings/domestic T20,not sure. I think he is a very good shot maker with a bit of high back-lift, not sure about his rotational skills. His List A Average tells that once set, he goes for big & often finishes as not out at a good SR.

I like left-handed batsmen, try to find any potential left-hander. I think, that Saud kid is special.

Amir Sohail as well graduated from some commerce related program.

I guess when you have a good education then you know about hard work, how much you put in to achieve the degree you got.

You then translate it to other aspects of your life.

Having said that Anwar was a massive underachiever. Think he could've surpassed Miandad.

Sadly I'm not sure when we'll have an exciting as opener as him ever again.

Btw TPk, what happened to this guy? He has legendary domestic stats.

Imran, Wasim & Anwar are our all time best World Cup players.

Why he only played 55 tests ? Pcb's fault. He should have played more than 100 tests.

He was more talented than Inzimam, Yousuf, Younis & Miandad.

    Quality player.

Saud has that touch. And thanks God he has good attitude aswell.

    Lol yeah.

For now three youngsters I have hopes for. This kid Saad Ali, Fakhar, AND Saud Shakeel mostly because I knew him personally when I was a kid in Karachi.

Have faded memories of him batting in our gully mohalla matches. Wasn't anything special then, but has worked very hard since.

cricinfo, youtube. That too from what it's posted on PP, to a lesser extent than Talentspotter.

Obviously, I'm not tracking his every run or wicket, have patients to tend to.

Saad Ali representing Karachi White Vs Rawalpindi at the moment. Kid has good stats but up until now I haven't seen any video clippings of his batting but going by cricinfo looks good.

The sad part however is that he is coming in at #5 with players such as #3 Faraz Ali?? and #4 Behram Khan?? ahead of him who both average 24.02 and 31.09 respectively.

Also the fact that our #3 Faraz Ali has a higher bowling average than his batting and this bloke has played 20 odd FC matches already The other bloke called Behram has also featured in near 20 odd games and is averaging 30 something - Why isn't Saad batting ahead of these two is just beyond me; literally.
@TalentSpotterPk bhai can you shed some light on why does Saad not bat in the top order ?? Does he have any problems facing pace bowlers ?? Because I can't seem to find any videos of his batting.

Behram Khan has been in respectable form, so he makes sense up the order.

    36*, 68*, 155, 4, 10, 25, 41

With youngsters, you can't go ahead and look at averages because they're developing and often rise quickly as they learn.

Yes he does, he gets them at 85 per 100 balls, which is decent for someone coming in at 4 and averaging 60+ for the current season.

The problem with Saad is same problem that has plagued Babar apparently. The guy gets beautiful starts but fails to convert them into daddy scores. His last FC season was extremely frustrating.

In his last ten FC innings scores were

    35
    57
    12
    4
    68
    23*
    58
    30
    63
    17

These scores alone get him averaging 40.77 which is neither here nor there but in these five games he managed to produce starts 9 times out of 10 and apart from 4 half centuries he has nothing more to show for .

Maybe it's the concentration levels that need some addressing but Saad has all the ingredients to actually be a very solid future middle order option for Pakistan.

Brother since you have good insight on our domestic structure and players can I know why wasn't Akbar-ur-Rehman ever considered good enough for national selection ?? I mean the guy averages mid 40s for List A cricket and has decent SR as well.

Is it the usual lack of 'reference' or do peers and other important people not consider him good enough ?? He's 33 now so it's probably no use but why wasn't he selected during the prime years ??

This is in fact an opportunity. I'd prefer guys like him and Haris whose average of 40 is spread out among several games, as opposed to guys like Ahmed Shehzad who'll (hypothetically) get 120 in 1 game then two ducks and still average 40.

This implies that Saad has the ability to manage all pitches that are presented to him, and just has to learn the ability to hit occasional 100s and frequent 50s to boost his average even further.

Honestly, I've been hearing for the past 2 years about Kamran Ghulam and his up coming debut! But I still can't see when and on which tour will he actually be called up.

The same was with Saud Shakeel a few months but now no one is even talking about the lad

I think the time for specialist spinners in ODIs has long gone and like India, we should include spin all rounders like Agha and Kamran into the mix. Yasir Shah and Asghar should not be in the reckoning at all.

Kamran is different from Imad and Nawaz in that he has a left arm version of carrom ball / slider, while the other two have arm balls. In addition, his U19 exploits also highlighted him as a hard hitting batsman, something that he hasn't been able to replicate at the senior level, but lets keep our fingers crossed.

I think along with Kamran, Shadab should be in the recognitionas as a spin bowling all-rounder. He has a beautiful action. He gets more bounce on leg breaks. He has a good variety with googly too. And his batting is very good.

Personally I think he will debut very soon and will give tough time to Nawaz and Imad for spin bowling all-rounder spot in the team.

Before the age of 29 he was an All rounder.

In his first 5 Fc Seasons he played 37 FC matches and only averaged 29 with the bat in Fc Cricket. Our List A tournaments usually gave a batsman maximum 5 innings per season so did not make the news.

He peaked after 29 and has been doing quite well. But until 2012 Akmal, Sohaib, Haris, Fawad were ahead of him.

If an Arm ball stays straight as in the case of Nawaz it's orthodox conventional Arm Ball

If the Arm ball curls back into the right hand batsman, curls in the air, drifts into righties its called a slider

Kamran Ghulam like Rangana Herath bowls a Carrom bowl or Knuckle ball. A left armer pushes the ball from his finger's right side to impart some revolutions opposite to the revs of left arm spin. The bowl pitches and seams/turns back into right handers.

Asghar can play Odi's as a number 11. But Yasir should not. Asghar only in Spin favourable conditions.

Agha Salman, Shadab Khan & Kamran Ghulam should be in picture especially for the spot which will be vacated by Mohammad Hafeez. Usama is working hard on his batting and knows the imp of batting.

Nothing comes out of the high performance centres. It's just a name we hear about these high performance centres and the players which have been picked but good knows what happens to them players. High performance centres only hold value in other countries not in corrupt country like Pakistan. We csn have tons of high performance centres but with this corrupt system we won't get anything out of it.
