On This Day September 12, 1988: Rahat Ali was born

Rahat Ali, the fast-bowling partner to Junaid Khan in the ongoing Test vs Zimbabwe, turns 25 years old today.

Born in Multan, Rahat Ali is an upcoming left arm fast bowling prospect for Pakistan. His performances have turned a few heads at the domestic level. Experienced domestic campaigners such as Yasir Hameed and Nadeem Iqbal have been praising his talent level, stating he has what it takes to play at international level.

Rahat Ali has been able to maintain a good average in First Class cricket and is known to get the ball to swing at 140+ KPH with his side on action.

His good form resulted in calls for his selection and participated in the 2012 ODI series in Sri Lanka, but played only one match.

He made his Test debut in the first Test against South Africa in the 2012-2013 series but was unable to take a wicket. He was brought back again in the last match of the series and managed an impressive 6 wickets.

Returning for the Tests vs Zimbabwe, Rahat Ali failed to impress with the ball. He did have a small cameo with the bat as he smashed 35* off 40 balls, including 3 sixes, in an unbeaten 9th wicket partnership to help Younis Khan reach his double-century and to push the match in Pakistan's favor.

Honestly speaking I don't see any aggression in his bowling at all. I'm not sure if he is the best partner of Juni because even if Juni work hard on one end Rahat doesn't keep the same pressure on batters from his end. Ideally I'll love to see Amir bowling with Juni. Amir/Juni combo could sever pak cricket for a long time like Wasim and Waqar did.

The legend did what no one in the world has previously done. Since Pakistan adopted UAE as its home venue, Rahat is the first pacer to win MoM award in UAE, thus schooling other pacers how to bowl on the flattest tracks in the world

Zimbabwe could eke out a test victory against us only after they managed to get Rahat out in the only possible way they could have got him out.

Unfortunately for them, they learnt that hard way after Rahat put on a match-winning batting performance in the first test of that series

And while rest of the team collapsed like a house of cards in Edgbaston last year, Rahat was on his way to save (who knows win) the match but eventually ran out of partners

Same happened in Gabba later that year when Aussies couldn't bowl him out in both innings and Rahat was the last man standing in the second innings. Will never forgive Yasir for that stupid run out that denied us the sight of Rahat hitting the match-winning runs in that match

And last but not the least, he gave us all the most iconic moment of 2015 WC, and guess what, he wasn't even bowling or batting then

Happy Birthday to The Legend, The Champion and The Destroyer
