    we do it at school as a second additional language.....which means that we are also required to deliver unprepaired speeches . We also have afrikaans literature exams, as well as where uve got to write essays...s
    im quiete comfertable speaking it....no real problem...can converse fluently...but to be honest i dont see the point of us learning it at scool because in the region we live in, afrikaans doesnt at all come in handy...an indigenous african language wouldve been better

    Lots of saffers speak it, not just the Afrikaners. There are lots of coloured, Indian (moreso on the highveld) and even black people who speak it.

    Afrikaans is actually derived from Dutch, so they're very close to each other.
