Here are some numbers to work with

Let's start off with Anderson . The red line indicates each bowlers average.

    ----------------------------

    And For Steyn

So if you look into it in the first five years

Anderson has given away 2326.1 runs and picked up 62 wickets at an average of 37.51
Steyn has given away 3459.6 runs and picked up 150 wickets at an average of 23.065

Judging by the current stats for the rest of the career after the first five games I can approximate

Anderson has given away around 8900+ runs at an average around 28
Steyn has given away around 5100+ runs at an average around 22

Steyn is light years ahead of Anderson. No comparison here.

Superb bowler. Treat to watch. It's going to be very ugly for Pakistan's top order in England vs Anderson/Broad. Hafeez, Malik, etc obviously donot have any idea how to play a top fast bowler when the ball actually deviates off the straight.

By the way, the bowler who so many PakPassion posters foolishly call "Clouderson" now also averages below 30 in subcontinental conditions.

Knew he would do well. Anyone who think he isn't world class doesn't know what he's talking about.

That average of his is misleading but having said that, we have not helped our case with our negative approach against him.

That average shows he is not consistent like Steyn, but Anderson in form is a very dangerous bowler.

His career has been tale of two halves - he has been consistently quality in the last 6/7 years.

Compared to other bowlers in his range like Lee etc., he is comfortably a better Test bowler than most in my view.

For a non Asian bowler, he's been very good here.

Not ATG level performance, but the best from England.

Boult was much better though, in the later Tests.

The Sky commentators feel that if he had not been messed about with by bowling coaches who did not know that they were doing, he would by closing on 500 test wickets at 25 each by now.

Just shows how misleading stats are. He's been toothless the first two tests.

Interesting. I'm not falling into the trap of comparing the two!

Jimmy keeps learning new skills. He has been taking wickets with off-cutters this series, which is a new facet to his armory. He's been far and away the best England bowler, which surprised me - I though Broad would have been, but Jimmy has got the wickets.

Me neither. That's just for fun. Steyn obvious a better bowler than Andersen. Heck, he's an ATG so no comparison between those two. Jimmy could be an English ATG though.

Bump. I'd forgotten about this thread. Make that 301 wickets @24.66 . He's a borderline ATG as far as I'm concerned and probably the best English seamer only behind Truman and on par maybe with Willis. Certainly the best England have produced in 35 years. Easily 2nd best of this era after Steyn as well.

A great bowler not sure if we can call him an ATG or not.He will sooner get to 500 wkts club. His record vs Aus and SA is a bit mediocre but he has longevity and is one of the fittest player going around. He is better bowler than Botham IMO and only slightly behind Walsh/Pollock.

I think he has averaged 19 at home in the last four years, striking every 42 balls.
