I would go for Rahane and Rohit, don't see Dhawan doing anything in Aus/NZ. Rohit even though a terrible player the conditions suit him there.Rahane for a similar reason plays with the flow.

In 2011, we went in with such a settled line-up:\

    Sehwag (3rd WC)
    Tendulkar (6th WC)
    Gambhir (1st WC)
    Kohli (1st WC)
    Yuvraj (3rd WC)
    Dhoni (2nd WC)
    Raina (1st WC)
    Harbhajan (3rd WC)
    Zaheer (3rd WC)
    Munaf (2nd WC)
    Nehra (3rd WC)

Now we're carrying a bunch of noobs.

Hold on Freelance, hold on. This is trolling of the highest order. Lara was the greatest player of spin of all time. Shehzad can't hold candle to Lara in this regard. Shehzad is a pretty good player but you're only inviting bashing to him by making surrealistic comparisons.

Don't want to comment on the comparison, but Rahane is one of the most free-flowing batsmen we have. There was so much hype around Pujara after that South African tour, but Rahane seems to be THE one now.

Lara is a legend and the second best batsman of his generation and one of the best ever, but that statement is a bit OTT.

Gavaskar/SRT even Sehwag can be considered to be as good if not better players of spin.

Lara was better than Sachin against spin overall. This doesn't mean Sachin was any less but just that Lara was simply better.

The greatest player of spin ever. Magical player.

Sehwag used to murder spinners too.

Him vs Lara would be a good competition.

But Sehwag used to get out to spinners later in his career way too often.

At their peak, Sehwag > Lara against spinners.

Overall, I would say Lara > Sehwag against spinners.

Dominated Warne and Murali both in home and away conditions. Better use of feet to spinners.

Sachin kept it simple but had a slight weakness against good off spinners I feel.

Sachin before back problem was way better player of spin bowling than post back problems/tennis elbow injury.

Anyway lets stick to discussion. Shehzad is most certainly today's Lara while Rahane is pushing to be the next Mark Waugh. That's tells you about the difference in aura.

Tendulkar has a better avg in AUS than Lara and SRT's destruction of Warne in both Australia and turning pitches of India is well known.

Lara played just 4 test matches in LAnka and was bradmanesque there.

But Lara never did much on turning Indian pitches.

But overall SRT has played many more matches on turning pitches and done as well if not better than Lara.

Why are we comparing an opener and a middle order bat.

Rahane has left Pujara back a long time ago. Pujara has lots to prove before he is compared with Kohli or Rahane. He hasn't shown anything which will make us to believe he is as good as Rahane at this point. Since Dec 2013 (the time India left for SA), Pujara has been competing with Dhoni and Dhawan. Rahane, Kohli and Vijay have been way ahead of him. Pujara is currently nowhere close to Rahane.

Undeniably Pujara has been below par in recent times which is unlike him, its only a matter of time before he picks himself up, definitely low on confidence, if by stats you are hinting that kohli has taken over the mantle from pujara, that's wishful thinking. kohli is going to remain poorer in tests than rahane and pujara by some distance.

Rahane is a quality player. He's a complete package. Rate him 2nd behind Kohli. I know he has scored a test 100 against SA but someone like Imran Tahir devalues it.

Its Perth, he wouldn't be playing like that if it was Asia.

What a struggle it was for him in this innings. Does he struggle to take singles against spin just like Shehzad do? At least in this innings is was a complete struggle. Lets see if he can do something in the back end of the innings.

Lol, I think it's unfair to compare the two. Rahane is technically superior, I'd say he has better technique or at least equal to Kohli. He's still finding his feet in ODIs.

Rahane in ODIs is shaping up to be what everyone hoped for Shafiq to become, they have similar playing styles (when in full flow). Only difference is the former is starting to apply his talent while the latter is renowned for his "technique" but loses it as soon as he puts on the colored kit and faces up to any international level bowler.

That's ok man i agree Shehzad is the Shehzada of cricket next big thing and Rahane should stop playing ODI.

Shehzad's is ahead in ODIs at the moment, Rahane hasn't covered himself in glory in India either.

No debate in Tests and who the overall player is. Rahane is far superior and should comfortably have a better career unless something bizarre happens.

Safe to say, Rahane is far far ahead of Shehzad in both tests and ODIs. Who knew Rahane could play a Raina-type knock too? Highly versatile, exciting batsman.

I think it was Kohli's Tuk tuk that changed the game completely and created pressure to the batsman at the other end and the upcoming batsmen , when Rohit and Dhawan were decently going with the target . 1 (14,15 deliveries) is insane.!!
Rahane was doing a pretty decent job with his kaptaan, but the fact that he is limited and going all over the bowlers after getting settled in was not possible though

This is really what happens to Pakistan team most of the time when our legend comes in at a decent position and tuk tuk his life out of the game which makes other batsmen to either go into a shell mode or hack mode

Rahane would be useful in 270ish chases. In 320 chases he will be a liability. If Rohit and Kohli have a field day then Rahane can play an excellent second fiddle in big chases.
