Shahbaz Sharif's daughter got married with grandson of Indian Army commander

    Wedding celebrates cross-border harmony

On either side of the border between India and Pakistan, two elite influential families, including one of Pakistan’s top political family currently in power, ceremoniously entered into a relationship by virtue of the marriage of their children in Chandigarh on Friday.

Daughter of Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s younger brother Shahbaz Sharif, who is presently the Chief Minister of Punjab province of Pakistan, got married with the grandson of Lt General (retd) P N Hoon, a former Indian Army commander.

Lt Gen Hoon is well-known for his anti-Pakistan rhetoric, especially when it comes to commentary on Indo-Pak relations and posturing amid provocations from the other side of the LoC.

He is also believed to be an RSS ideologue. Shahbaz Sharif was made the chief minister of Pakistan’s Punjab province for the fourth time in June this year after his party, the PML-N, swept the general elections that made his elder brother Nawaz Sharif the prime minister of Pakistan.

An impressive marriage ceremony took place during the day on Friday, a day considered auspicious by the Muslims, while a gallant reception was arranged at a swanky five-star hotel in Chandigarh in the evening. The event was a testimony to the recognition and blend of cultures, identities and ideologies sans borders.

Pakistan Punjab province Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s daughter Khabija entered into a wedlock with Lt Gen Hoon’s grandson Kanv Pratap Singh.

Khabija is Sharif’s daughter from his third wife, family sources said. He was not present during any of the ceremonies. For reasons best known to the family, the welcome notice outside the venue read “Somya weds Kanv.” The high profile reception witnessed a host of VVIP’s from the two nations. The list of invitees was carefully crafted and later pruned to make the event a close-knit wedding. Some Punjab MLAs were also present at the marriage.

If sources are to be believed, both the bride and the groom have studied in the US.
After studying in the prestigious Lawrence school in Sanawar in Himachal Pradesh, Kanv completed his MBA from US. Lt Gen Hoon has a plush two-kanal (1000-square yards) bungalow in Panchkula. He has various business interests in the city.

Though the bride and groom refused to talk to the media, Lt Gen Hoon came forth to clear the rumour that the girl belongs to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s family. “It is a lie. People should do their homework (before making such statements),” he said.

Probably Punjabi Khatris, especially if they're originally from Abbotabad. Before Partition, there were lots of Hindu-Muslim inter-marriages between the business-oriented/Khatri families, independently of their religious affiliation and more based on caste. Few know for instance that singer/actress Salma Agha's mother is related to the famous Kapoor family of Bollywood (cousin to Prithvi Raj I think.)

Shabaz Sharif's daughter is a Trojan Horse planted deep into the heart of enemy territory. Once the wedding is matured she will revert to the shuttlecock burka and convert the whole Hoon clan to Sipah Sahaba jihadists which everyone knows is fostered and cultured by Shabaz' Punjab govt.

Khatris allow marriage between 1st cousins. We ridicule them for this reason alone in Indian Punjab.

Only the Dhai Ghar Khatris (Kapoors, Khannas and Mehras) do it AFAIK. Others (Oberois, Chopras, Dhawans, Sethis, ...) don't I think. The Aroras too are Khatris in my book, but lost their "status" when they collaborated with the Mughals.
But, with the Parsis of Gujurat/Mumbai, Brahmins of Maharashtra and Bengal and Sindhis, they're perhaps the most "liberal" ethnic group in India, as they have been traditionally been an "urban" social class (unlike more paindus Jatts, Rajputs, Gujjars, Awans, Arains ... of Punjab) so doubt they care about caste let alone cousin marriages nowadays.

Don't you ridicule them for many other things anyway ? Seen tons of internet Sikh Jatts call them "bhappas", a "bhappa" being contrasted to the supposed "tall and fair" Jatts (who make up 65-70% of Sikhs)... which would be ironic considering that all the Sikh Gurus are Khatris to begin with (not even talking of other modern day success stories, whether 99% of Bollywood male actors, business of the Oberois & co or even cricket recently )

The Aroras ( Hindus ) like other Khatris groups are an urbanized merchant community who are into trade/business unlike the others groups such as the Jatts who are more inclined towards the Punjabiyat, Khet , Khaleyaan etc . Infact at the height of Hindu-Sikh problems in Punjab during the 80s , many of them were even declaring Hindi as their Mother Tongue.

Many of these present day Arora families living in Delhi and Mumbai have completely abandoned Punjabi from their household and interact in Hindi , not to mention that they have Zero Punjabi Pride. They are educated and have a better lifestyle than other groups in Punjab but being liberal doesnt mean that they will inter-marry among other groups, no way is that going to happen.

About the other groups that I am familiar with , the Brahmins of Mahrashtra and Parsis .. no matter how educated , liberal , progressive and better lifestyle they might have , none of them are at ease with inter-marrying among different communities.

Right from the time of independence , the Brahmins of Maharashtra have been at the forefront of Pro-Hindutva Militant Organizations/Parties like BJP/RSS, even though they have tried to counter the Muslims by trying to unite the Hindus but yet in their minds the sense of Brahminical superiority remains strong ( Not that there is anything wrong with it ). And regarding Parsis less said the better , in a few decades they will be on the verge of extinction and yet they have very strong rules like if any Parsi Guy or Girl marries a Non-Parsi then he/she is completely abandoned from the community , they will no longer be allowed to be identified as a Parsi and would not be allowed entry into any of the fire temples.

Even if the news is real, what is a big deal for anybody's daughter marrying to Indian army commander?

Why this is different than so many of us getting married to Christians, Jews other religious back ground?

First of all this is his daughter's personal issue, but I care less if Shehbaz Sharif's consent was involved.

Sharif Family rejects Indian Media’s claims

The Sharifs’ family sources have called Indian Media’s claims about Shahbaz Sharif’s daughter entering into wedlock with an ex-Indian General’s grandson as false and trash, Saach.Tv reports.
Family and party sources, while rejecting Indian media claims, told Saach.Tv that Shahbaz Sharif’s ex-wife’s daughter had gone to participate in the wedding.
    Deccan Herald
The leading English-language daily newspaper of India Deccan Herald claimed in one of its news titled “Wedding celebrates cross-border harmony” that Daughter of Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s younger brother Shahbaz Sharif, who is presently the Chief Minister of Punjab province of Pakistan, got married with the grandson of Lt General (Retd.) P N Hoon, a former Indian Army commander.
The news further stated that an impressive marriage ceremony took place during the day on Friday, a day considered auspicious by the Muslims, while a gallant reception was arranged at a swanky five-star hotel in Chandigarh in the evening.
Pakistan Punjab province Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s daughter Khabija entered into a wedlock with Lt Gen Hoon’s grandson Kanv Pratap Singh in the event which was a testimony to the recognition and blend of cultures, identities and ideologies sans borders.
    Hindustan Times
On the other hand another Indian English-language daily newspaper Hindustan Times said in one of its news that the Lt Gen Hoon came forth to clear the rumour that the girl belongs to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s family by terming it a lie.
According to Hindustan Times in Panchkula on Friday, Kanav Pratap Hoon, the grandson of Siachen hero Lt Gen Prem Nath Hoon (retd), tied the knot with Samiya Siddiq of Lahore, Pakistan, in a court marriage.
Kanav, 27, and Samiya, 26, had met in Dubai for the first time and fell in love. Samiya is the daughter of Shazia Siddiq and Mian Muhammad Siddiq while the Hoons are natives of Abottabad in Pakistan. Kanav helps in his family’s business of Hyundai dealership at Chandigarh’s Industrial Area.
At the lunch organised on Friday at Taj Chandigarh, Sector 17, for close friends and relatives of the bride and groom, many guests from Pakistan were also in attendance. Prominent local politicians included Punjab MLAs Kewal Singh Dhillon, Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi and Rana Gurjit Singh.
Though the bride and groom refused to talk to the media, Lt Gen Hoon came forth to clear the rumour that the girl belongs to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s family. “It is a lie. People should do their homework (before making such statements),” he said.
On getting a Pakistani bride for his grandson, Lt Gen Hoon remarked, “It is a good development that relations are being tied across the border,” and added, “People across the border should meet often. Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should talk to our prime minister.

Yeh to such mein Gadar Ho Gaya...

Now the girl will be forced and taken back to Pakistan and this Indian Punjabi guy will sing - "Ud ja mere kale kawa..." goes to Pakistan and then defeat the entire pak army with bare hands and get his woman back. :sunny deol

Seriously, what an alliance. Groom's side are RSS nuts and Bride is Pak Muslim. In the public, bad moth Pakistan and behind the close doors, party with them
Just goes to show political speeches are masses to get their votes. Nevertheless, a good step in the right direction.

Such fantasies were played out by Bollywood for ages as in Veer zaara, Gadar, Refugee; it is always a Hindu guy and a Muslim girl, rarely the other way round as it will cause riots
