Malala can be an alternative to the curse of Bhuttos given enough hype. I will give her my support if she actually does something for the poor girls in the north and then come into politics

Malala: Shot Teen To Get Replacement Skull[I say only part of the skull]

British doctors have revealed the remarkable medical procedures which will transform the life of a Pakistani schoolgirl who was shot in the head by the Taliban.

There was international outrage after the Taliban shot Malala Yousufzai, 15, at point blank range in the north western Swat district, because she was campaigning for girls’ education.
Following the attack last October she was flown for specialist treatment at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The bullet hit her left brow and instead of penetrating her skull it travelled underneath the skin, the whole length of her head and into her shoulder.

The shock wave shattered the thinnest bone of the skull and the soft tissue at the base of her jaw and neck were damaged. Her left eardrum was destroyed.

Within the next ten days she will undergo two operations which will replace a missing area of skull and implant a complex electronic hearing device.

A 3D image has been released which shows the extensive damage caused to Malala’s skull.
Surgeons at Birmingham say and 0.66mm titanium metal plate will be screwed into place, having been moulded from a 3D model created through the CT image of Malala’s skull.
In a separate procedure a cochlear implant will be fitted, the type of device that provides a sense of sound to someone who is profoundly deaf or severely hard of hearing. A small area will be drilled in the skull behind the titanium plate to allow the electronics to be implanted.
Malala was released as an outpatient in early January to continue her recuperation at the family’s temporary home in the Midlands with her father Ziauddin, mother Toorpekai and younger brothers Khushal and Atul.

Shortly after Malala arrived in Birmingham her father released a statement saying: “I am awfully thankful for all the peace-loving well-wishers who strongly condemn the assassination attempt on Malala, who pray for her health and support the grand cause of peace, education, freedom of thought and freedom of expression.”

The Pakistan government has since given Malala’s father a job in the UK. He has been appointed the education attaché at the Pakistan Consulate.

Since the attack, a campaign has gathered pace for Malala to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize after she became a symbol of the struggle for women's rights in Pakistan.

Yea now how about the kids in the drone attacks. Do they get prosthetic limbs or are they not worth the effort?

    'Remarkable recovery'
The shockwave destroyed her eardrum and the bones for hearing.

The second procedure will involve fitting a small electronic device that provides a sense of sound to someone who is profoundly deaf or severely hard of hearing.

"There is no doubt that the surgery she underwent in Pakistan was life saving.

"Had that surgery not been of such a high standard she would have died."

He added each procedure should take about 90 minutes and her full recovery could take another 15 to 18 months.

Dr Rosser said the missing part of Malala's skull had been put in her abdomen by surgeons in Pakistan, in order to "keep the bone alive".

Doctors in Birmingham have chosen to use a metal plate to repair her skull instead of that bone, which they say may have shrunk.

Dr Rosser added this was common practice worldwide to keep the bone healthy.

He said: "Malala currently has no skull, she only has skin covering the brain."

It is the Pakistan government's responsibility to provide health care to the drone attack kids because they are the ones who gave permission for the drone strikes.

But havig said that, why on earth does this have to be a This vs That issue?

Drone attacks are wrong, Taliban shooting little girls is wrong. Malala's issue got worldwide coverage and it was able to save her life; she probably feels more grateful to England now for saving her life than she ever did for Pakistan.

It's not jealousy I think, it's the innate desire to whine about everything I think

Malala Yousafzai - getting better every day - YouTube

The first part of the video is a Sky News report detailing the scheduled reconstructive surgery planned to be carried out on Malala Yousafzai at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, England.

A titanium plate is to be fitted to Malala's skull and a cochlear implant to help her recover hearing in her left ear.

The second part of the video is news footage of Malala set to the music "It's getting better" sung by Cass Elliot.

The video concludes with the following end message from me Peter Dow for my AfPakMission channel video as follows.

    We love Malala.
    We hate the Taliban.
    We are the good people.
    The Taliban are evil.

The good people of Pakistan and all the world wish Malala
    to get better every day.
Our military should kill every Taliban and help the world
    to get better every day.

First the victory prize by wiping out the Taliban.

    Then there will be peace
    and time for peace prizes.
We have a war to win first.

Malala spoke to the camera before her surgery and the following video was released after her surgery.

Malala Yousafzai Announces Malala Fund to Support Girls' Access to Education (YouTube)

Support the Malala Fund | Vital Voices

    Then after her surgery ...

Malala Yousafzai speaking after surgery in England (YouTube)

Malala Yousafzai speaking to her consultant after surgery to reconstruct her skull and to implant a hearing device.

Broadcast on BBC News on February 4, 2013

    Transcript
    Malala says

"I'm feeling alright and I am happy that the operations, both the operations are successful and you know, it was that kind of successful that now they have removed everything from me and I can also walk a little bit, I can talk and I'm feeling better and it doesn't seem that I had a very big operation, it seems that just a little bit anaesthetic injection just for five hours and then I wake up."

    Consultant says

"Yes, but it was five hours, it was not a small procedure but you look remarkably good for it"

    Malala says

"But it was very nice because there is no drainage system and I think everything is fine, it's better."

    Consultant -
    "Good"

    Malala

    "Yeh"

    Consultant -

"and what are you looking forward to next?"

    Malala
"I think that I will just get better very soon and there will be no problem, I would hear after one month, in this ear, I hope and the thing is that my mission is the same, to help people and I will do that."

    Consultant -

"Yes and what do you think of your treatment so far then, can you remember that?"

    Malala -

"If I try to speak about my whole treatment, it started in Pakistan and they did a very successful and a very good operation of me and God gave me a new life because of the prayers of people and because of the talent of doctors.

Here in Birmingham in Queen Elizabeth Hospital, here they did the operation of my nerves so after four or five months my left hand side of the face would work, Insha' Allah.

They took care, a lot of care of me, intensive care and I think I'm inspired from the doctors and nurses - they are like my mother and father because for ten days my mother and father were not with me but I had a lot of doctors and nurses who took care of me as if they were my parents."

Malala Yousafzai attends first day at Edgbaston High School in Birmingham

Pakistani schoolgirl Malala Yousafzai, who was shot in the head by the Taliban after campaigning for girls' rights to education, has attended her first day at school in the UK.

The 15-year-old was shot on a school bus in Pakistan in October.

She has now recovered following treatment at Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

She described starting at the city's Edgbaston High School for Girls as "the most important day" of her life.

She said: "I think it is the happiest moment that I'm going back to school, this is what I dreamed, that all children should be able to go to school because it is their basic right.

"I am so proud to wear the uniform because it proves I am a student and that I am living my life and learning."

Malala is in year nine and will start her GCSE curriculum next year.

She said she was looking forward to learning about politics and law.
    'Normal teenager'

Headmistress Dr Ruth Weekes said she believed Malala needed the stability of being at school.

She said: "She wants to be a normal teenage girl and to have the support of other girls around.

"Talking to her, I know that's something she missed during her time in hospital."

Malala is staying in the UK after her father Ziauddin Yousafzai was appointed education attaché at the Pakistan consulate in Birmingham.

Surgeons in Pakistan removed a bullet from Malala's head after she was shot returning home from school in the Swat valley on 9 October.

She was flown to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital for specialist treatment.

The teenager had a titanium plate and cochlear implant fitted and was discharged from the hospital in February to continue her rehabilitation.

The Taliban in Pakistan has threatened the lives of both Mr Yousafzai and Malala since the shooting.

She has received support from around the world, with tens of thousands of people signing an online petition calling for her to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

***** is quite a crude word when describing a 14 year old girl but I get your point and that is exactly what shes going to be.

Again its totally understandable. Its a sad reflection on our culture that the life story of a kid can go for £2million. Shes 14. Apart from the one chapter where she get shot what else is there to read?

Film on Pakistan's Malala Yousafzai to be shot in Kanpur?

If everything goes as per plan, then parts of Amjad Khan's film on teenage Pakistani education activist Malala Yousafzai, will be shot in Kanpur.

The filmmaker, who had a fatwa issued against him for his film Le Gaya Saddam, will be in the city soon to seek permissions for the shoot.

Confirming the news is Kanpurite and actor Shahbaz Bajwa, who plays the role of an Afghani extremist in the film. "Amjad Khan will be coming to Kanpur soon to finalise the locations. As of now, he is keen to shoot in areas like Chamanganj and Beconganj, for their simlarity to the illegal weapon market of Swat valley located at Pakistan-Afghanistan border. Though Amjad knows that shooting the film in congested areas like Chamanganj and Beconganj would be a tough task, but for the sake of making the film as realistic as possible, Amjad is adamant to shoot in these areas," said Shahbaz.

When we got in touch with Amjad Khan, the filmmaker told us over the phone, "My film would be a tribute to this teenage education activist. Malala has proved that age is no bar when it comes to courage and fighting the evils."

About his Kanpur plans, he adds, "We would be shooting for at least 15 days in Kanpur and most probably our shoot will start from May 22 or 24. I will be shortly coming to the city to meet the administration to seek due permissions for the shooting."

In an interview earlier, Khan had said they would guard the identity of the girl playing Malala for the sake of her security, and Khan persists with that explanation even now.

"At the moment we cannot disclose who would be playing Malala's role but yes, actors like Danny, Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri, KK Menon and Seema Biswas are playing strong roles in this movie. We would be shooting in Bhuj, Iran and the USA, apart from Kanpur," Khan informed.

The filmmaker has also decided to donate the first day collections of the film to Malala's school in Swat district.

Congratulations on her 16th birthday. Indeed, a woman worthy of praise and a source of pride. We hope that she will, in the future, continue to be an inspiration to us all.

Because he has used her pain for massive personal gains. Not against the family moving too London, but now the dad gets a high paying job at the High Commision. His links to the PPP are well known, he gave so many press conferences that i wonder why he wasnt at his daughters bedside

Malala Yusufzai has done more to promote Pakistan and show the true face of Islam, than all the leaders, preachers and haters put together.

She was dressed like a typical Pakistani girl, in modest clothes, with a dignified and respectful manner.

The problem with Pakistanis, and Muslims, is that they see the devious and hidden hand of Western evil-doers in everything. Do not forget it was a British hospital, with British doctors and nurses, who fought hard to save the life of Malala. I suppose that too was a conspiracy made in the NSA, CIA, M16, Mossad, and God knows what other evil doing entity.

Do you really believe that a girl shot in the head by one bunch of extremists, is so thick as to allow herself to be used by another bunch of extremists?

As this is a special month - Ramadan - we should all support and encourage Malala, and others similarly placed. Blaming the West for every evil under the sun, leaves no room for self-analysis, and a critical appraisal of the dire state of Muslims across the world.

i think the haters hate her because the west has chosen to prop her up (something which the pakistani govt should be doing and not saying west doesnt have an agenda). so for the haters, whoever the west backs has to be evil, therefore so much hatred for malala.

Perhaps. But Malala was presenting a speech at the UN, not in the British parliament or American congress.

It is really quite typical of Pakistanis to turn on one of their own. Instead of applauding Malala, for her courage and bravery, they are condemning and criticising her. How many times in her life are her own peoples going to shoot at her, either physically or verbally?

I would not have the guts to stand up in public and speak so beautifully and eloquently, as Malala did today. I am immensely proud of her, and pray to Allah SWT to guide, help, inspire, protect and guard her. In Sha'a Allah SWT, her position in the sight of Him is secure - may He raise her position in the world even higher. Ameen.

Ma Sha'a Allah Ta'aala, your sisters have been blessed by Allah SWT with intelligence and education. May Malala also be blessed with the same opportunities, and achieve great things, for herself, family, community and nation.

Brother, there is no distinction in Islam between the secular and spiritual, deen and dunya. They represent aspects of one and the same truth. We cannot separate different facets of life, and then not expect fragmentation and disintegration - of the self and society - to occur.

I think Malala is intelligent enough to realise wherein lie her best interests, as well as the interests of her country. She did not only speak for herself today, but for everyone. Give her some credit, and do not assume or presume to know her intentions. It is better not to ascribe bad intentions to either Malala, or to her supporters.

are you kidding me? Are you implying a young innocent girl getting shot was justified?

You know the biggest problem in the world has nothing to do with the west but tribalism and religion.
I live in a country that has 11 official languages and that means different tribes. I belong to the Xhosa tribe. One of the obstacles that we had to tackle in our young democracy in this country was exactly that tribalism, everyone wanted to be in charge after apartheid the Venda's wanted to be recognised as an independed state which was never going to sustainable. Thats why i have so much respect for Mandela coz he united as a country and made us see beyond race, tribes etc. Democracy should always prevail.

Pakistan needs strong leadership which they clearly lack IMO

Crikey, 'secular education' ?! What is this lethal poison ?! This same secular education that has educated talented people to become doctors, nurses, teachers, scientists in the west ?

The same kind of education that has been able to ensure companies like Apple, Microsoft, Google can continue to expand and hire people with expertise ?

This is the problem, a girl gets shot in the head and people bang on about western agendas, when the real problem with Pakistani education is the amount of madrassas and power-hungry clerics who seek to gain control over communities by preaching to people that they should leave everything to God and not seek any education, its all 'God's fate'. If a young girl's own country has abandoned her, and is failing other young girls like her then who else should she turn to ?
