Should Kallis call it a day?

He averages 4 in the current series and averages 18 with the bat in the 6 tests he has played during the year. This is his worst batting year since his debut. These are worrying signs for a batsman who has been, by far, the most consistent run maker post -2000.

Not only that but his slip catching is also not as sharp as it used to be, he has already spilled a couple or more catches during this series if i'm not mistaken?

All these are indications of slowing reflexes.

He will probably make pile up the runs against Unadkat/Sharma/Kumar etc. when the Indians visit SA later this year but they have a tough tour of Australia coming up next.

Should Kallis hang up his boots after the Indian series or do you think he can make a comeback?

It's important to go out at the top like Greg Chappell, Hadlee and Warne, instead of clinging onto diminishing returns like Gooch, Tendulkar and Ponting.

That's pretty harsh on Gooch and Ponting. In fact Ponting made a double century and century in 2012, his final year in Test cricket.

But yes I wouldn't want Kallis to selfishly cling on like Tendulkar. Kallis is too great a man and player for that.

Tendulkar's (and to an extent Dravid's) later matches went a long way towards grooming some of our young batsmen like Kohli and Pujara and is part of the reason for their international success

Ponting's record was much, much worse than Sachin's last few years before that inning. If Sachin makes a double century in the WI series would you admit being harsh on him?

Sachin clinging on is why we have Kohli and Pujara successful today. But of course you want Kallis not to spoil his "personal records"just like Sachin sacrificed his "personal"average, the most important record for a test batsman, for the sake of his team

He also believes that Hafeez is a world beater and that Ahmed Sehzad has way more natural talent than Virat Kohli .... and that Inzamam is far better than Sachin

runs against India should not be considered at all. its like scoring runs against minnows. horrible bowling attack.. even club cricketers can score against them.

Your few victories in SA have been down to your bowlers and not the great batsmen you have.

Obviously, it's the bowlers who have picked up the 20 wickets as needed; and the batsmen, who have outscored the opposition. Recipe for a win..

In Petersen, Duminy, Elgar and Deu Plesis, SA have got 4 struggling test batsmen in their current squad. Not sure if they would like to have a 5th one added to the list leaving a lot of burden on Smith, Amla and AB.

He's going through a lean patch but expect it to be corrected vs us and the good form to continue in Australia.

+1. Also dont forget Imran Khan and Steve Waugh who go out on top.

Tendulkar I think drag it way longer than Gooch and Ponting. Dont know what he was thinking trying to tarnish his legacy.

Ponting had a 6 years of slump. In his last 6 years he was averaging 30s/40s. I don't recall any ATG batsman who batted for 6 years of below average performance before retirement.

Has age finally caught up with the best all rounder in the world (currently

Jacques Kallis has been horribly out of form this
In his all 4 innings combined he just scored 12 runs
    And went wicket less

Some claim him the best modern day batsman( test average higher than Tendulkar) but alot of people do agree that he is currently best all rounder in all formats of the game..

His nippy bowling alone can get him into Team India

But back to topic ..Has age finally toiling this legend as well
    WIll he now retire soon

Nonsense. He has had one bad series. He is allowed one. I back him to come good in the next series whomsoever it will be against.

So now we should advise the greatest all rounder this world has seen on when to retire. While we are it, may be we should give some bowling advice to Steyn, and batting advice to Devilliers as well.

Kallis in his last 3 test series -

Against NZ at home - Avg 32

Against Pak at home - Avg 20

Against Pak at UAE - Avg 4

Looks like a decline to me.

please post after a bit of research unless you know cricket I mean.
Ponting averaged a horrible 38 in his last 40 tests!!!!
on the other hand sachin still managed to score at 51 in his last 40 tests, 40 tests is a big enough sample, don't just comment without any base

Gooch had an entire test career of Avg 42,so that is an unfair comparison anyways
