Anyone else suck in nets ?

Im leg spin bowler, for some reason i suck at bowling in nets, especially indoor nets. Its cold here in Canada, so there is no way i can practice bowling outside. I just cannot control or turn the ball well in nets, and most of the time its way too short or full toss. Im totally a different player when im indoor. Does anyone else have or had this problem ?

I wouldn't say i suck in nets, but i prefer playing outdoors in match situations. I like the challenge and responsibilty during the game. It was totally the other way round when i started out, I used to suck outdoors and be good in nets, but i think i have slowly adapted after playing in match situations.

Bit strange that as usually there is no pressure in the nets and ball comes out of your hand a lot better.

Exactly, when im playing game, i get a bit nervous, my heart beats a lot faster and etc. But in nets i feel nothing and ball doesn't come out well, it doesn't land where i want it to land, doesn't turn enough, too much short balls and full tosses. its just weird

I don't mind bowling in nets (although I don't turn the ball much on matting surfaces - outdoor nets) but I tend to dislike batting in the nets because I feel rather cramped for room in the nets. This is because I'm a natural driver of the ball and - more importantly - a ferocious hooker/puller (pun unintended) of the ball, but I'm restricted to playing without my powerful hook/pull stroke due to the cramped feeling. This - coupled to my rather absurd and unconventional technique (it's rather difficult to visualise for a person who hasn't seen me bat but I can best describe it by declaring that whilst batting both of my feet are present within the crease - which means I stand unbelievably close to the wickets, although becoming accustomed to my technique means I hardly ever accidentally hit the wickets with my bat or neither trod on them, even though other teams seem to think I will and proceed to kindly warn me) which means I much rather prefer batting on a real wicket rather than in the nets.

I'm gonna take nets a lot more seriously this season, last season for most part of my nets I bowled seam up even though I'm a natural spin bowler. Batting I'm gonna cut down on attacking shots and comcentrate on playing according to length rather than premeditating and deciding which area I'm looking to hit even before the ball is bowled.

My advice is take nets as seriously as you can and hopefully this will yield better results.

How is your run-up area and floor in indoor nets if it is not comfortable or enough for you it can be one obvious reason.

We practice where Team Canada practices, the run up distance is fine, even right and left neighboring nets can be retracted to make our playing area bigger if no one is using the other nets. So its like the size of 3 playing nets. And i do take practice session very seriously, something just throws me off

To be frank, I doubt many spin bowlers are able to turn the ball prodigiously in the nets, which means there is no reason to be worried about your form.

I assumed it was just because of bad bowling/not fully concentrating on turning the ball copious amounts that I failed to take many wickets in the nets last season (despite acquiring wickets whenever I bowled in matches, most of which were clean-bowled through "the gate") but because of my inability to take wickets in different nets (I attended a net session at a different club on Friday), I've realised that net surfaces aren't really conducive to spin bowling.

This inability to turn the ball may be the exact reason why you continue to bowl full tosses/short balls on a regular basis - one may be afraid of being dispatched because of the lack of turn and thus may be bowling far too fast to concentrate on an accurate line and length,

I swing the ball in the nets and have no problems cos I have no issue with the coach but when it comes to match situations, I need to lead from the front so I try to be economical. I start of well and get wickets in the last overs cos of batsmen having pressure and my yorkers.
When I wasnt captain, I used to take wickets for fun because I didn't have any huge responsibility.

I'm a spinner and I find bowling in the nets pretty good. Do you usually bowl full tosses/short balls [be honest] outdoors? If so, better to keep practising indoors. I'm sure you'll bowl better the more you do it. How long have you hit the nets?
