Bending your elbow while delivering the ball gives him a huge advance which is what he is denied off now, just like Ajmal. Chuckers deserve no place in cricket.

He's lucky to have played as much cricket as he has because I think his action has been suspicious for most of his career.

Kolkata is hopeful that the issue surrounding mystery spinner Sunil Narine’s bowling action would be resolved soon. The Knight Riders franchise issued an official statement on Narine’s suspected bowling action in which they state that the West Indians bowling action was not reported in the games that he played prior to the last fixture against Punjab.

“Mr. Sunil Narine was reported for a suspect action by the match officials after KKR’s match vs KXIP held on Oct 10, 2020 in Abu Dhabi. This came as a surprise to the franchise and Mr. Narine, considering he has played over 115 games in the IPL since 2012 and as many as 68 games since 2015, when he was last reported during the IPL season for a suspect action before being subsequently cleared completely by SRASSC, an ICC accredited facility.

“Furthermore, he was playing his 6th game this season, with no concerns expressed formally or informally by the match officials so far,” the statement read.

Narine is a key figure in the Kolkata set up and if he does not play against Bangalore, it would be a big setback for a side that has the winning momentum with them and would like to carry that going ahead in the tournament.

“Having said this, we are respectful of the process that the IPL has put in place to have his action reviewed, and are working closely with the IPL in this matter.

“We are hopeful that there would be an appropriate resolution quickly. We appreciate the cooperation being extended by the IPL in expediting this matter,” the statement further read.

In a statement on their website, KKR reasoned that the development came as a surprise because Sunil Narine has never been called out in the IPL ever since he remodelled his action in 2015.

"Narine was reported for suspect action by the match officials after KKR's match vs KXIP held on Oct 10, 2020 in Abu Dhabi. The decline is not surprising. He has been playing for a long time. He will probably retire soon.

Englishman Carl Crowe was the go-to-man for Kolkata Knight Riders spinner Sunil Narine after being called for a suspect action in 2014. And now with on-field umpires reporting him, Narine has again fallen back on Crowe to help rework his action for the remaining games of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Speaking to ANI, sources in the know of developments said that Narine and Crowe have been working non-stop over the last couple of days to ensure that the mystery spinner can return to the bowling crease at the earliest.

"Crowe was the man Narine went to after being called for suspect action back in 2014-2015 and with him in the unit, it was but obvious that the two would try to correct his action to ensure that the spinner can return to bowling after being called in the game against Kings XI Punjab. They have been working overtime be it at the nets or while analysing angles with data analysts," the source explained.

Crowe is Narine's only resort as the spinner cannot go for a biomechanical analysis of his action at the ICC and BCCI accredited Sri Ramachandra Arthroscopy and Sports Sciences Centre (SRASSC) in Chennai as that would mean fresh quarantine period applying and would ultimately see Narine missing the remaining tournament. The spinner already sat out the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Sharjah on Monday.

Narine was reported for bowling with a suspected illegal bowling action during his side's match against Punjab last Saturday.

The IPL release said: "The report was made by the on-field umpires according to the IPL's Suspected Illegal Bowling Action Policy. Narine will be placed on the warning list and is permitted to continue to bowl in the tournament. Another report will result in Narine being suspended from bowling in the IPL 2020 until cleared by the BCCI Suspect Bowling Action Committee."

KKR issued a statement saying they were surprised by the incident. "This came as a surprise to the franchise and Narine, considering he has played over 115 games in the IPL since 2012 and as many as 68 games since 2015, when he was last reported during the IPL season for a suspect action before being subsequently cleared completely by SRASSC, an ICC accredited facility," KKR said.

Having said this, we are respectful of the process that the IPL has put in place to have his action reviewed, and are working closely with the IPL in this matter. We are hopeful that there would be an appropriate resolution quickly. We appreciate the cooperation being extended by the IPL in expediting this matter," it added.

In a positive news for Kolkata Knight Riders, hours before their crucial clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday, the IPL has cleared their bowling allrounder Sunil Narine to bowl again after being reported for a suspect action.

The clearance comes right after a week when Narine was reported with a suspected illegal bowling action after he had played a vital role his team’s two-run win over Kings XI Punjab on October 10.

“Sunil Narine, the Kolkata Knight Riders player, has been cleared by the IPL’s Suspect Bowling Action Committee,” IPL said in a statement on Sunday.

“Mr Narine was reported for bowling with a Suspected Illegal Bowling Action during his team’s Dream11 Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 match against Kings XI Punjab at Abu Dhabi on October 10. Following the report, Mr Narine was placed on the IPL Warning List,” it added.

KKR, the two-time IPL winners, had requested for an official assessment of Narine’s bowling action following the development. The IPL Bowling Action Committee reviewed the footage of his action and deemed it was within the rules.

“KKR requested for an Official Assessment of Mr Narine’s action from the IPL Suspect Bowling Action Committee, submitting action footage in slow motion with back and side angles,” the statement read

“The Committee carefully reviewed all the deliveries of action footage sent of Mr Narine with the naked eye and has come to the conclusion that the elbow-bend appears to be within the range of permissible limits,” it added.

However, the 32-year-old will have to replicate his action as in the footage that was produced before the committee for a review. “The Committee also noted that Mr. Narine should reproduce the same action going forward in the IPL 2020 matches as presented to the Committee in the video footage,” it concluded.

This is not the first time that the West Indian has been reported and subsequently cleared for an illegal action.

In IPL 2015, he was twice reported and cleared as a final warning was issued.

West Indies chief of selectors, Roger Harper, has revealed that the panel remains in the dark regarding the future of spinner Sunil Narine who remains unavailable for selection.

The 32-year-old Narine is widely regarded as one of the best spinners in the world but has not appeared for the West Indies since 2019. In total, Narine has played 6 Test matches, where he claimed 21 wickets, 65 One Day Internationals, where he has claimed 92 wickets, and 51 T20 Internationals where he has taken 52.

The player has, however, throughout his career been plagued by questions surrounding his bowling action. In 2015, Narine was suspended from bowling in international cricket, after his action was deemed to be illegal. He was reported during the ODI series against Sri Lanka. He was cleared a year later after doing remedial work on his action. Narine was reported again during the 2018 Pakistan Super League but was cleared soon after. Again, in October 2020, the spinner was reported by on-field umpires for his bowling action in the 2020 Indian Premier League, which was cleared by IPL Suspect Bowling Action Committee in September.

According to Harper, at this point, the bowler does not seem comfortable enough with his technique to return to international cricket.

“Sunil Narine has indicated to us that he is not yet ready for the international scene,” Harper told the Mason and Guest radio program.

“He was still in the process of fine-tuning his action. He had some issues with that so he is in the process of fine-tuning it,” he added.

“So, when he makes himself available and thinks that he is ready for international cricket, we will then have to make a determination at that point.”
