He will never be that type of Spinner Ajmal is. Graeme and Ajmal are spinners who don't require the pressure crested by pacers (or lack of it). If the pacers do well, Moeen can be the bowler who finishes it off on a final day wicket

    He is not.

His stats and wickets now are misleading everyone on a CRAZY level. Since its Indian batsmen, the media may seem convinced.

He is better than a part timer. That's all.

Flight, dip, turn and all is not there.

Lyon > Ashwin (outside SC) as of now.

How can Moeen be compared to Lyon.

Btu I heard Moeen got good drift this Test. Is it true?

Ali to Jadeja, OUT, maybe I should be punished! Jadeja has played on! Nicely tossed up and angled in on off stump, the batsman came forward, perhaps a little too much and yorked himself. In his hurry to get the bat down he gets an inside edge and deflects onto his sticks.

He is obviously not as good as Swann or Herath or other leading finger spinners of the world, but that doesn't mean he isn't the best spin bowler in England. Add his batting ability and you have somebody who is well worth his place until such time as the next great English spinner comes along, which based on past experience could be in about 25 years' time.

In ODIS yes but ODI pitches rarely tend to assist Spin they are mostly flat so it is easier. On wearing Day 4/5 tracks thats when we see how good a player of spin a batsman is.

Think everyone knows this much, including Moeen.

Would be interesting to see how the Indian batters play him in the next test. Old Trafford is supposed to be better for spinners.

This performance demands a Moeen Ali smiley. One where he's giving a troll smile would be appropriate. For now,

8 wickets in the match so brilliant effort. Hopefully he will tighten up with the bat and then become a very good all-rounder.

Mamoon is just a part-time critic. Can only criticise on home ground. Out of his depth otherwise. Just doesn't have the intelligence or variation you need from a World Class critic.

It was more the case where batsmen gifted him wickets. Decent bowler.

OK I can feel for you guys.

One or two may have been due to poor shots. Rest of the 6 were not.

Enjoyed his spell today, easily his best in an England shirt albeit once again he produced too many hit-me deliveries. Not good enough for a frontline spinner, England will have to explore other options eventually but he's a very good sidekick.

I don't pride myself on being a critic but people are taking things at face value as usual. Just because he has a 6 fer doesn't mean he's good enough. From what I have seen so far, he's out of his depth as international cricket but definitely has decent level potential with the bat.

In the long run, he won't add much with the ball and there will be better batsman available like James Taylor, whom he will keep out of the team and will affect the team's balance. Good option for LOIs, I like his batting in the shorter formats and think he can do a good job there with the ball as well.

England have unearthed their very own Hafeez, whatever that means.

More penetrative than Hafeez, yet less containing.
The two can't really be compared in terms of batting or bowling.

^ What a pathetic analysis. He's not out of his depth, he's been fantastic in both tests and ODIs. He should have had a 10 fer in this match but the lack of DRS meant that he was robbed of a couple of wickets.

You're so off, its not even funny. Botham, Nasser, Warne and that other old guy have all given Moeen their stamp of approval and so has pretty much everyone on PP.

Just because you got pie in your face, doesn't mean you have to keep on this crusade of devil's advocacy.

He's a completely different bowler to Hafeez in tests, much more of a wicket-taker and not as economical. Batting wise, his weaknesses, the short ball and spin, are Hafeez's strengths and his positives, patience, swing bowling are Hafeez's weaknesses.

The only similarities are they are both all-rounders who bowl spin.

He's better then Hafeez in at least 2 facets of the game

Surely he won't drop as many chances in the 3rd facet as the professor does.

I doubt moeen would ever become a front line spinner. He is England's fifth bowler and that's about it. If he does score consistently with the bat though he could become their most valuable asset.

    Batting needs to improve though.

Seems vulnerable to the short ball.

I fail to see why people are saying that he can't be the permanent sole spinner for England. He bowled extremely well today and as soon as those rubbish balls start becoming fewer and fewer, he can become their best spinner since Swann.

Much better than the likes of Kerrigan.
