Costa needs a proper slap. On a whole it was a very tight tie decided by Emre Can's stupidity in giving away a needless penalty in the first leg for had he not done so Liverpool would have gone through after full time today. Problem still remains our front line and final third where Borini, Balotelli and Lambert do not have any goals in them. We are playing some good stuff but without clinical finishing their will be no wins.

Proud of the lads who gave it their all but not clinical enough. In dire need of goalscorers.
It is about how the money is spend. Rodgers has spend over 200m at liverpool as well as spending over 100m yet he is struggling for a top 4 spot. Just last season he was talking about how tottenham, after spending 100m, shoulod be challenging for the title yet his own team is in 7th(?) spot.

'Dire need of goal scorers' LP brought in 2-3 strikers during the window and they all failed. With the money spent on them liverpool could have just forked it all out and gone for a big name striker. Instead they went for the 'quantity over quality' and it is costing them majorly.

Mourinho and Costa are similar because they are winners, and winners will do what they can do get that victory. Was Costa playing dirty? Hell yes. But you would love to have him on your side as would anyone. Suarez was similar, a genius but a madman.

Suarez though would simply lose his head and his main controversies came every few months. The biting incidents were not deliberate but a moment of madness. It was completely unjustifiable. With Costa its more deliberate, its this niggly, snide actions every single week - be it a stamp, slap, elbow, tackle or punch. There's a YouTube video of him once spitting at an opponent. He was voted most hated player in Spain.

This is the same debate as sledging in cricket. Talented sportsmen like Diego Costa, Virat Kohli or David Warner don't need to resort to abuse or physical aggression. Let your talent do your talking.

Not deliberate? So he accidentally bit 3 different opponents on 3 different occasions?
Most players are guilty of all the things you mention, sneaky elbows, kicks, grabbing, pushing shoving it is part of the game. players do it to get under the oppostions skin. Mourinho was critical of his Madrid team for not fouling Lewandowski enough when he put 4 past his team. Costas 'stamps' are rightly being punished but everything else is part and parcel of the game.

Diego Costa is one of those love him or hate him type of blokes. You love him if he's on your team, hate him if he's not. He's abrasive, physical, doesn't take a backward step and has a bit of mongrel and dirtiness to his play. He just doesn't bother hiding it. He's a pain in the @rse to play against I'm sure but he definitely gives his all and can't blame him for that. Those types of players tend to lift their side. I had a teammate like that in rugby, I was definitely glad he was on our side.

My point is that the biting was not pre-meditated, its not like Suarez pre-planned for it to happen.

With Costa it feels pre-meditated and Mourinho encourages this in his players - a gnarly, nastiness, really snide aspect of a player.

As for the argument that we'd love him in our team - if he gets banned for 3-4 matches then he's not really much use to a team is he.

    And the truth is...?

Mourinho doesn't encourage snideness in his players ? Real Madrid 2010-13 ? Chelsea 2004-07 & present day ?! And now this talk about a "conspiracy against the club" isn't anything but an attempt to influence referees ? Let's be straight here.

You cannot honestly believe Suarez went out onto a football field purposely intending to bite someone in front of the entire world's TV cameras to get a 6 month ban ?

Why do you believe Costa intentionally went onto the field to stamp on Can?

It's a joke that Liverpool fans have blindly defended Suarez for a lot worse, yet will attempt to crucify Costa.

Not at all, never defended Suarez for any of his actions and eventually most fans got 'controversy fatigue' with him. This argument that "if Suarez did it, then its OK for Costa to do it" is nonsense. Two wrongs don't make a right. Neither players' actions are defensible. You shouldn't take the online Twitter fans for being representative of the ordinary matchgoing fan, many at the end were sick of Suarez's continual inability to keep his composure.

How could Costa have stamped the players accidently ? Look at the replays, it is damning.

I'm sure it's pre-meditated. It's a form of sledging in a way, you try to **** the opposition enough to get them off their game. Fighting dirty if you like. You can't sledge in football because it's hard enough running around without wasting oxygen talking some shyte but all those little niggly things, they happened to me when I was playing sport, whether it was rugby, basketball, football or cricket.

I cannot believe the club did not know about this rule. Obviously Ian Ayre did not know because he's not a football man. Well and because he's Ian Ayre and its not like him to screw up another transfer deal...

Solid in defence today, West Ham never created any clear chances and we dealt with their physicality at set-pieces well. Credit to Mignolet and Sakho who both did well.

We created lots of chances but lacked that killer instinct, especially in the first half typified by that Markovic miss. Second half, it was scrappy for the first 20 mins even with the Sterling goal but then Sturridge coming on really lifted everyone. Great finish from him - it was a tight angle but he made it look so easy.

From then on we looked like the team of last season, our passing and movement was delightful and looked full of belief.

Well done lads, job done, two goals and a clean sheet.

It was a fair result in the end. Again the post stopped us from taking the lead with that shot from Ibe, later our keeper made a fine stop as well just when the ball was about to hit the back of the net. Our defence has greatly improved over the past few months but up front we are still lacking. Don't understand why Brendan did not sign a forward seeing Balotelli, Borini and Lambert don't have ten goals between them. We need one if not two top quality forwards in the summer.

We looked solid and in control with Everton only having 1 shot on target but it was a tired performance. Not surprising after the midweek exertions and Rodgers is going to have to rotate more to keep our players fresh.

Decent point but we fall further behind the top four race with Spurs and Southampton both winning, those are now must win games for us.

Your next 3 league games. Safe to say you need 6/7 points from those games to keep up your push for 4th. Also have Beskitas squeezed inbetween those games and a FA cup game.

Ibe looks a talent. But Everton did a job on Coutinho he is Liverpools creative hub you stop him you stop the team. It was more of a tactical battle than a normal derby. For all the pre-game hype Gerrard had a poor game

I was surprised at how defensive Everton were for a Merseyside derby playing at home. They had the full week to prepare and thought they'd actually get at us more considering our midweek exertions in the FA Cup.

They had pace on the counter and got 1v1 against our CBs on a few occasions, plus Coleman and Lennon were getting some joy down the right hand side. Thought Lennon did well when he came on and stretched the play. But Everton only had one shot on target - which was well saved by Mignolet who to his credit is playing much better now, his confidence has returned.

Martinez played for the point and got it, he set up Everton to nullify our attack and nothing else.

credit to the lads they played out of their skins tonight. Spurs kept coming at us but we showed so much character despite the dire refereeing and the two goals conceded, we never let our heads drop.

Thought our subs made a real effect, Lallana got the assist, Balotelli actually pressed, got the goal and worked hard, Lovren was actually decent and allowed Can to push into midfield.

The quality of our final ball was good today, we looked much more incisive and could have scored more than 3. Happy Sturridge got more minutes under his belt and looked sharper. Ibe was majestic, he was fearless out there. Mignolet pulled off a couple of key saves too.

    Great game.

I agree. I've been up for the past 28 hours and I thought if this game is dull, I'll definitely dose off. But man, this re-energized me! I had come to terms with this being a draw tbh. Huge credit goes to BR for sending those subs, who played a part in the goal and Ibe, man..that kid may not have the intelligence of Sterling, but his pace and power is amazing. Can moving into midfield was another vital move from Brendan as Gerrard was pretty poor and bringing Allen on would've just made things worse.

Also, that save from Mignolet from Lamela's shot. WOW!

Great win! Credit to Spurs for coming to Anfield and playing to win instead of boring us to death with negative tactics like Mourinho's Chelsea. Studge was unlucky not the give us the lead at half time with that cheeky back heal that hit the post, what has the woodwork got against us?? Balotelli's attitude stinks, instead of celebrating at the end with the rest of the boys he trudges off with a face like a wet blanket, just don't see what his problem his! Lighten up you idiot!

He will surely be sold at the end of the season if we can manage to sign a Benzema or Higuain. We have a good chance of finishing in the top four now, bring on the Palace in the FA Cup at the weekend.

I must say how impressed I have been with young Jordan Ibe. The boy has been like a new 10 million signing since returning from his loan spell with Derby. With pace to burn combined with excellent dribbling skills he has all the potential to be a major player in the EPL. His decision making needs to improve otherwise he seems to have it all. Was the man of the match today in my opinion.

Pretty much possible. Southampton will surely drop out. Spurs are spurs. They will mess up too. Arsenal however always manage to finish fourth. But we have an exceptional record after January in each season under BR. So yeah we are in with a decent chance.

I don't know where you're sitting bro but have you been following this season?

They way we've been playing its still an outside chance. 5 of our remaining 13 games are against opposition above us and with Gerrard and Lucas out injured the squad is running thin while the games come in thick and fast including the F.A cup and the Europa League.

Arsenal have a comparatively easier fixture list. Chelsea and Man City are not going anywhere. That leaves basically Man United, Tottenham, Liverpool and Southampton fighting it out for one place in the top 4.

It's not that easy specially since we're lacking goals up front.

I, for one, would be pleasantly surprised if we did end up finishing in the top four. However, for me, it does not seem likely. Yes, we have a chance but for that to happen we'd have to go on a sensational run AND hope that others mess up.

Break the fixtures down and you'll feel a lot better. I'm assuming Arsenal will get 3rd. If we get 4 points from the next two games then we'll be in a very good position. We don't know how Southampton will handle their run-in as they've never been in this position before, and there are signs of them dropping stupid points already (drawing with Hull). Spurs always tend to have a bad finish but yeah, I expect a tough fight against them.

Keep in mind, United have a horrible run-in at the end of the season. They still have to go to Anfield/Stamford Bridge/Goodison Park with Spurs/City/Chelsea yet to come at Old Trafford. The next three games are crucial for United. They should extend their lead as they'll need at least a 6-7 point cushion.

The race is very much on. When you have Balotelli coming on and scoring a winner in an important game, then you know the players are well up for it! Believe.

Crystal Palace tomorrow. Eurgh, I hate playing these at Selhurst Park as they always transform themselves into Brazil 1970 against us.

Dwight Gayle becomes Lionel Messi for the day and Yannick Bolassie does his best Maradona impression.

I'd keep the same back three, and resist the temptation to move Can into midfield. I don't think he has the positional discipline to protect the defence like a Lucas Leiva would and he likes to make those surging runs forward which would leave space in behind. I'm not doubting his talent, and sure a move into midfield will happen in the future but I'm very wary of breaking up a defence that has only conceded one goal from open play since New Years Day.

For the 3 CB system to work, you need two really good ball-playing defenders on the outside of the sweeper (Skrtel) - and Lovren, Toure or Johnson simply aren't as good on the ball as Sakho and Can.

I'd put Allen and Henderson in midfield and have Manquillo and Markovic as the WBs. Shame Ibe is cup-tied as he's been performing so well. Front three of Lallana, Balotelli and Sturridge. Don't want Sterling or Coutinho anywhere near this - they both need a rest with massive games against Southampton and Man City coming up, they're young players who need plenty of recovery time.

This season 70 points looks like it will get you 4th, that means you guys need 28 points in the last 13 games which is tough.

We are only 6 point behind the Mancs who still have to come to our place. Spurs are only a point ahead and Arsenal three, we are on a good run now and feel even finishing third is a possibility. All teams above us have to play each other as well, we just need to make sure we don't drop silly points.

Deserved win. Thought we were the better team throughout. Two well taken goals. We were patient and dominated possession. Defended solidly for the most part barring their goal. Well done Mignolet too for another excellent display. We also saw the game out really sensible, just kept the ball and didn't allow Palace a way back.

Balotelli came on and did really well again. Allen for all the stick he gets, put in a good display today, loved that Cruyff turn to beat two defenders towards the end.

The referee was woeful, had underdog syndrome like all the refs we've had in the FA Cup. Dwight Gayle is an annoying little runt, his diving and playacting was disgraceful but its only the evil foreigners who do it right ? Surprised Pardew had his team park the bus AT HOME in the FA Cup.

Nevertheless, it was important for us to keep building the momentum and I liked how we just kept playing, didn't lose our composure like we've done in the past after conceding.

    Get in !

That 5 minute period where they barely had a sniff of the ball was just..magical. We killed the game. Also, Mignolet..man, can't give enough props to that guy for turning his season and arguably his career around. Tremendous stuff. Allen was also good, and Mario has finally decided "Awwhhh, to hell with it! I'm gonna start playing some good footy again!"

Big turn around from last December. I think we've only lost 2 of our last 20 games. I did tell the wrist slitters last year that the competition doesn't end in October

That said, the difference between their play then and now is night and day isn't it. It's not just the Sturridge factor - he's been the icing on the cake. It was the change in formation and dropping Lovren and some other deadweight and letting some of the newbs like Markovic settle.

By contrast no one was interested in your hero's like Markovic, Can or Lambert who by your inferior knowledge you probably consider the best forward on the planet.

Aspas has nothing to give...he has no pace, dribbling ability and his finishing is appalling so we let him go. No LFC fan I know considers him to be class, with your absurd and irrational views we'd be fighting relegation if you had been manager of Liverpool so stick with your day job letting analysts like me talk tactics. Scoring a hat trick even against a poor side once every ten seasons does not make a class forward so don't know why you are so excited by it. Even defenders have scored hat tricks in Football that you obviously do not know. Aspas was given a chance but like Lambert and Borini is simply not Liverpool class no matter how much you try to fit a round club in to a square hole. All three of them are crap.

Can does not offer much either at the moment however since he is young I am willing to cut him some slack by giving him two seasons to shine. Allen was safe signing who was never gonna be a world beater, his job is to take the ball then give it to more talented ones like a Gerard or Sterling. Being a defensive midfielder like Lucas he's not the most creative or exciting to watch. Get over Can's effort against Chelsea where a huge deflection played a crucial part in it being a goal, remember?? I am not saying he is as bad as the mentioned forwards but you are talking him up as if he's the next Zidane, NOT!! He has had a few decent games, considering Brendan's poor record at transfers he is another one who has lots to prove. I am not buying in to him dominating 45 minutes making him the next great thing!!
Do you understand my point now.

That's all I have to say

Hahaha. This is what happens with todays plastic, football manager playing fans. They expect every signing to be hit the ground running and score 20 odd goals a season.

It takes time for players to gel and adjust to the new league. When will people learn not to judge players too early in the season.

I absolutely love Can. The guy is brilliant and I can't wait to watch him run the show in our midfield for years to come.

Don't remind @Laparwah of that horrible period in his life
