What I saw was potholes and poor state of hospitals to name a few things.

Definitely you had a vision and made right choice.

My mother has served in government hospital for almost 2 decades as a Specialist Doctor. Daily from School we the siblings went to the hospital.

I am so so happy to see a Pakistani government hospital like this. Never imagined a day when a gov hospital would look like this.

Thank you Imran Khan. Thank you PTI. Thank you for the change and fulfilling promises. Thanks is for change. It was your duty and you did it.

    Wowwww. I am glad. Alhamdoulillah.
Please tell PTI to focus on LRH and KTH as well. I'm sure you also haven't imagined such lack of hygiene in your life and I'm pretty sure (barring some backward African hospital), you won't find so many infected cats and rats in a hospital anywhere else.

My grandmother fractured her pelvic bone in August and is struggling for her life because she has developed a clot in her lungs. Since I'm not in Pakistan at the moment, my family took her to KTH on my reference and immediately left when they saw that ICU bed that they had kept for her had a big urine stain on it.

She has now been shifted to RMI and I'm coming back tomorrow because she doesn't have long to live. I'm also embarrassed to face my family after what they witnessed in the hospital where I worked and where they went because I recommended since I know people there and thought they might be able to look after her better.

    ...............Copied from my friend,s wall..........
3 days of my stay in Lahore and a little journey to Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, and Wazirabad. Facts that I found,
    1) GT road is a nightmare in Punjab.
    2) Even though there is no C.N.G in the province to provide for natural gas supply in households, there still isn't any gas available for the households.
    3) Punjab police is openly demanding for bribes not less than 500 for nothing at all.
    4) National Banks in Lahore are full of stupid, illiterate, and arrogant creatures.
    5) You can smuggle anything in Lahore, because the police there doesn't care what you have in the car. They only care how much are you going to pay them.
    6) Electricity shortage is more than that in Peshawar.
    7) Punjab is way backward, except for Lahore. It's only Lahore and Faisalabad. The rest looks like a pind.
    8) Worst ever traffic jams and roads in Gujranwala.
    9) People have some obsession with this "Jhoolay Laal" guy.
    10) Local news channels are full of news about people getting shot by police for no reason, people getting beaten up by the police. And even when I was travelling through Gujranwala, a protest was being held against the killing of two young teenagers by the police.
At my third day, I rushed back towards KP. People always go GAGA whenever somebody praises Lahore or Punjab government's awesome job. But honestly, this might be my last trip to Lahore. I don't know, where this province is headed. Now I know the meaning of a "Police State".

I accept that hospitals like KTH and LRH cannot maintain the level of hygiene that private hospitals can because of the difference in burden of patients, but we cannot ignore the negligence of the staff and the lack of supervision. Things do not happen unless you force the issue.

Besides, I'm not saying that it's limited to KPK hospitals only. PIMS is no better in this regard.

I'm curious to find out why you recommended it though. You've been very consistent and vocal in your criticisms regarding it from cleanliness, dirt, poor facilities, malfunctioning equipment etc.

Since you knew all this already why didn't you suggest any better private hospital (unless there really aren't any in Peshawar anyway)

    Thank you.

I was mistaken because I thought I might be able to get her some special attention from the staff because of my contacts etc. I am not entitled to any privileges of course, but I thought she might be catered for better. However, the main reason was because the pulmonologist there is a family friend. She is now in RMI which is the top private hospital in Peshawar.

I think one of the main reasons is that the House Officers are paid handsomely. 50K/month for a 23-24 year old who is fresh out of MBBS is a very good amount. There has been criticism that they are getting paid over the top but the conditions and work environment that they have to cope with, they certainly deserve it.

This made me so sad to see. We as a nation have a complete disregard for humanity.

This pathetic excuse of a human being has one stool just so that he can sit lambi taan ke, but the old guy is forced to stand.

Do this in any western country and the doctor would immediately be put in his place not only by the other patients but his peers as well.

You know what is more sad thn this? We accept these things as normal. For a common Pakistani rishwat, sifarish, officers acting like badshah salamat etc is normal because our rulers made sure we are trained this way by society.

Doctors should be paid more n more so they stay in Pakistan. I see so many Pakistani doctors coming to US after taking USMLE that it just baffles my mind. Anyone who is trained in govt medical school should not be allowed to move abroad before 5 years of service. If you want to move abroad after finishing school, go private medical college.

Also girls quota should be restricted to 50% because many of those girls dont practice after finishing school. We need more and more doctors in Pakistan.

You dont know the context may be the doctor was on service for 18+ hours, may be the old man was there for few seconds. Doctors are under lot of stress , its not an easy job , they put very very long hours

    Boost to KP healthcare

THE PTI government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is trying to overcome the difficulties posed by many doctors and other medical professionals who are otherwise vital to the public healthcare system in the province. There are several concerns regarding all the work that needs to be done in order to improve the system; however, there is certainly some good news as well. That most powerful incentive — money — seems to be working.

A number of doctors have opted for carrying out their professional duties in their home districts away from the appeal of the big city. The arrangement offered by the provincial government pays the doctors working in the rural areas much more handsomely than what they would have earned while competing with their colleagues who have private practices in addition to their government jobs in the larger towns.

It is not easy to end the allure of the combination of private and public practice, and that is why it will take some time before everyone gets the confidence to truly hail the KP experiment which covers nurses as well. The situation has to be monitored closely to see not only how big the initiative is in size and outreach. There will also have to be special emphasis on the quality of care being provided deep in the countryside where people are often forced to seek medical treatment in far-off cities.

KP which is under the microscope as a ‘PTI province’ could well provide an example of a job well done — at least one well attempted — in this case. However, at the same time, it is very much an example of how many resources are needed to make some basic change in the way Pakistanis all across the country are being treated in hospitals and clinics. This brings home the old point about getting one’s priorities right. Healthcare is always in need of cash injections. The right allocation and the right focus in the health sector can see the benefits being transferred to the people directly and quickly.

As has often been said by people on here, the PTI has made massive progress and no doubt some mistakes. What is important that they keep doing the good work and let people know and also hope the word of mouth spreads the good news. The SC is corrupt and the verdict will go against the PTI and there is no doubt that the PTI will lose the election but the Nooras will have to face the consequences of the billions borrowed and one day people will realise that they have made idiots out of them.

True common man is happy but i talked to a few guys from KP recently and they told me many powerful people in different sectors are not happy with PTI govt in KP because of the strict danda policy on some issues and those guys are powerful enough to impact 2018 elections so PTI will have to play carefully in next elections.

That's what i want other provinces to follow you need to invest on human development more and more because roads and bridges are important but human development is the most important thing for a nation. Brain drain is a massive issue for our country i would love to see doctors, teachers, engineers and other professionals being paid good money so that they can stay here help and build this country instead of leaving for better opportunities.

If for Iqtedaar, Kursi, Hakumatt PTI makes compromises with powerful people, ashraafia, status quo and rules of gov operation are bent or disobeyed or corrupt illegal favours are given to those strong people than atleast they PTI will lose my little support.

Than they will be no different than others.

Not compromises but PTI will have to play smartly i can already see all the forces coming together in KP to beat PTI in 2018. Don't be surprised if you see secular ANP making alliance with JUIF.

They can't win in KPK if the election is fare.

They will be wiped off in KPK if there is a fare election. Only ANP will win some seats while Sherpao, Jui F and JI will win few seats. This would mean two third majority for PTI in KPK.

There are reports that 5 to 6 sitting MPAs of PTI are going to join PMLN soon thanks to the horse trading efforts of Amir Muqam there and guess what head of this lota group is Ziaullah Afridi the same PTI minister from KP who was arrested on corruption charges under his own party govt. I guess this group is not happy because they are not able to make big money under PTI govt

The girls who want to observe purdah while playing sports should wear monkey caps instead (custom made if they like). Would be more comfortable i think.

This is by far the best endorsement of health reforms, not sure if other hospitals in remote areas have also improved but this is great to see and huge improvement from previous years.

Shobaz and his typical shobazyan. No focus on education, health and police in Punjab. I heard he is finding a loyal junior officer to be next IG of Punjab.

^^ WOW i have heard good things about "Zamung Kor" initiative by KPK gov for street children but never knew how amazing it is. This looks like some 5 star hotel or high class private school. Now these are the things that make siginificant difference to lives of people.

Brilliant effort and i hope they can extend this to cover more and more areas around KPK.

I wish this more publicised in other provinces and cities as when more people realise that yes PTI is performing at least better than the others more will be willing to give them a try. In Karachi last election I know many went to vote for Pti in just the belief that there will be some change. But IK and PTI almost ignoring Karachi after their loss soured off many of them. When I ask my family and friends if they will vote for Pti again many are not sure. I disagree with many things with IK and think he did some stupid things but I think he can do a lot better than the others.

‘Improved facilities at govt schools attract students’

SWABI: Parents have started withdrawing their children from private schools and putting them into the public sector educational institutions owing to improved teaching methods and facilities in the latter.

This was observed at a meeting of a local NGOs body here the other day. Pakistan Coalition for Education (PCA) and Huquq-ul-Ibad (HI), which are working for welfare of children, organised the event.

Speakers said facilities and quality of education at the public sector schools had improved, prompting parents to send their children there.

The meeting was informed that the provincial government had constructed 15 examination centres, 26 modern science laboratories, 23 computer laboratories and playgrounds in 72 institutions across the Swabi district.

The parent-teacher council (PTC) had been reorganised; six high schools upgraded to secondary level, four middle schools to high level and five primary schools to the middle level, it was revealed.

Ghaza Bacha, sub-division education officer, said a number of teachers had been appointed on merit, adding about 1,000 teachers had received training. A campaign to enroll out of school children is also underway, he maintained.

He informed the meeting that about 2,000 students had switched from private schools to the public sector schools.

Another education official said the government had constructed additional classrooms in a number of schools in the district.

Amjid Ali, focal person of HI, lauded the government policy aimed at improving education standard at public sector schools.

Meanwhile, principals and owners of private schools told Dawn that they were offering special fee concessions and free admissions to woo competent students.

However, parents complained that private school had been increasing the fees without any check from the authorities concerned.

onlu LRH has burn unit and that is too limited .....there is a burn and trauma center under construction since 2010 ans pti haas failed miserably to complete it till now..we all know kpk has the extra burden of FATA as well and by knowing the bomb blasts happened here atleast this should have been done earlier...even entral government should have done it for the sake of FATA......disappointed..

They needs to complete it ASAP. Overall Shahram is doing decent job.

I have read that KPK has 4-5 Burn Units. This is PML N social media team Propaganda that KPK has no Burn Unit.

KPK also needs a Forensic Lab like Lahore. Atleast One.

InshaAllah. Best wishes & prayers Brother. Hope you get good score in part 2 and get residency at a good place.

If you have time than get into research. 2-3 papers and It would benefit you hugely while you will be trying to get Fellowship.
