O'Connell. Childhood friend of Salman at Tappan Zee High School in NY. Salman invited him to Pakistan for Talaash, circa 1993, and the rest is history.
I think his contribution to the subsequent albums was telling. Those bass lines on the Sufic songs aren't easy to play. He also embraced Pakistan, married Aisha Alam, and I was there at the concert in Islamabad in 2000 where he announced that he was finally a Pakistani citizen. He joked that it was almost as difficult as a Pakistani becoming a U.S. Citizen.
He left in the mid 2000's. Junoon were effectively finished, he was divorced, he had badly injured his arm, and the security situation was getting bad. He's in NY these days, and still keeps in touch with any touring Pakistani acts.

Ik billi moti taazi thee
Jo mazay se Ding Dong khaati thee
Ding Dong! Ding Dong! Ding Dong Bubble!
Choohon ne mil ker socha yeh
Billi ko dein gey dhoka yeh
Billi ko baandhein gey ghanti
Aur khayein ge mil ker Ding Dong
And so on and so forth. Notice please the reference to belling the cat, which is more of a Western thing, because we don't really find references to it in our literature.

was never a fan of Ainak Wala Jinn. Legend has it that the show was about to wrap up but young Bilawal bhutto was a fan and threw a tantrum and it was renewed for one more year.
Also i think the PTV Khabrain wali Aunty is still doing the 9pm news

Yeah what a show that was. Also id suggest dont watch it ever again so as not to ruin the memories and start wondering how intelectually stupid you were to follow that.
happened with me and Pokemon last yr. i ended up watching an episode airing on TV for old times sake and i was left wondering how stupid could i have been to sit through that.
I promised myself not to watch any of my bachpan ke favorite shows again in order not to potentially ruin the nostalgia i associate with them

I'm not sure if many of you young whippersnappers remember this. It is "Meena," a show that UNICEF developed, if I'm not mistaken. It tackles social issues in South Asia, and the characters are such that it is hard to pinpoint what part of South Asia the show is based in, although I suspect it is more Bangladesh or India than it is Pakistan. Nevertheless, it was still very relevant.
My American kids have discovered it, and it has been an eye-opener for them to see how things they take for granted matter so much elsewhere. They also find the accents hilarious.

There were two types of people in this world. At least during early 80's Pakistan. Jubilee people, and Hero people. I was a Jubilee person, and to this day, refuse to fraternize with Hero people.
Hero was the only other chocolate bar available. It was filled with coconut, if I remember correctly. I'm not sure, because I never had it. As a child, I had to have a Jubilee every time we went for groceries. I can almost taste it right now. Those crunchy granules of sugar, that caramel, the chewy center.

Ishrat Fatima, later Ishrat Saqib after she got married. I'm not sure if she's still reading the news, but she was on a talk show the other day, and has blossomed into a lovely auntie, far more easier on the eye than she used to be.
The fact that she wasn't being compelled to dish out government propaganda probably had something to do with it too.

might be considered blasphemous by some but i personally think 2000s Pakistan was more fun
atleast Karachi was safer in the 2000s then in the 90s paradoxical as it may sound. and i was too young anyways then
2000s music, food and hang out spots were better

My brother tells me that elections also used to be big part of the culture then. with all the political festivals associated with it especilly considering in the 90s they were almost a biennial feature.
i remember 2008 and 2013 elections were a whole lot of fun so assuming it was similar

There was another cartoon series 'Treasure Island' dubbed in Urdu.
The whole series was repeated 2-3 times on PTV and I missed the last episode every time.
Still don't know how it ended

The one show that still is amazing is Dragon Ball Z.
Just recently (a few weeks back) watched Gohan vs Cell and it was as good as ever.
Though they do drag out the scenes too much.

music was better in 90s sajjad ali, strings, ali haider, vital signs, collage with their popular song faasla, faakhr e alam, nadim jaffery's suno, ali azmat & great nusrat fateh ali khan (marhoom) they all were the product of 90's. That was the era of kumar sanu & uddit in bollywood, hundreds of duets & sad songs pouring honey in ears even today

80s and 90s seemed like good times in Pakistan, though I didn't live in Pakistan back and was too little to hear about it.
This that did live in those times, what was the electricity situation, how was the crime rate, infrastructure and economy back them?
According to my parents who lived in Pakistan between the 60s and early 90s, everything was nice but I guess they're just being nostalgic.

Also cricket matches used to have an innocence attached to them, since the match fixing wasn't quite in open till late '90s.
