Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was trapped on a flyover for 20 minutes by protesters in Punjab in what is being reported as a serious security lapse.

Mr Modi was on his way to a memorial in the northern state when the route was blocked by protesting farmers.

They were demanding the resignation of a cabinet minister whose son has been accused over the deaths of farmers.

"This was a major lapse in the security of the PM," a statement from the federal home ministry said.

Mr Modi was also scheduled to address a rally in the city of Ferozepur, ahead of state elections.

But the home ministry said the prime minister's convoy returned to the airport due to the security lapse.

The protesters were demanding the resignation of junior home minister Ajay Mishra, whose son has been accused in an incident that left eight people dead in October.

A car linked to Mr Mishra had ploughed into protesting farmers in Uttar Pradesh state, killing four men. Farmers alleged that the son, Ashish Mishra, was behind the attack, but the Mishras deny the allegation.

Mr Modi arrived at Bhatinda airport on Wednesday morning, and was supposed to fly to the National Martyrs' Memorial and later to the rally in a helicopter.

But the trip was delayed by bad weather, and the convoy finally went by road when visibility did not improve. It got stuck some 30km (18 miles) from the memorial.

The home ministry said it has sought a detailed report from Punjab government on the "serious security lapse".

"As per procedure, they have to make necessary arrangements for logistics, security as well as keep a contingency plan ready," it said.

When his chopper couldn't take off due to bad weather from Bhatinda, ideally he should have returned to Delhi, but no he had an election rally to address in Ferozpur, 2 hours road trip from Bhatinda.

After all winning elections is his only KRA.

And did he feel threatened by protesting farmers despite being protected by 100s of SPG security men around him?

    You reap what you sow.

And the Congress, AAP and others don't want to win elections?? Only Modi wants to? What's your point?

Trapping a PM's convoy on a bridge does amount to a security lapse. We have already had two PMs getting assassinated. Do we want history to repeat again?

If the Congress does not like the PM, they should get their act together and defeat him in the next election. Indulging in such dirty tricks and even stooping to the level of celebrating it only shows how vile and incompetent they are.

It will only ensure that the Congress will never win an election in India again.

Farmers waited for entire year to get justice in extreme weather conditions, Pradhan sevak couldn't cope up with 15 min in a bullet proof air conditioned car? Why was addressing that election rally was important to him?

He has been indulging in these theatrics since he was Gujarat CM. Devotees wearing saffron tinted glasses may be too blind to see through that.

There has never been a more vile political dispensation than sanghis, that is if we can call them a political dispensation.

As for AAP and Congress, they are nobodies and hence don't count. They command not even a fraction of power as to what sanghis do. With power comes great responsibility, something which sanghis know nothing about.

As for dirty tricks, do you know there were 7000 chairs kept for the election rally, however not even 1000 people were there to hear the lies sprouted by the chief liar. Given his propensity to lie about everything, don't know why you are hell bent on making it the doing of thoroughly incompetent Congress?

PS: This man lies about anything and everything, like his marital status, his educational qualifications, his real profession, the list is long.

Also, there were 2 previous times when his convoy had to wait for sometime.

One was in UP and one was in Delhi. Sanghis didn't make it an issue then. Instead just like the true devotees they sung peans about their god being so simple and down to earth that he doesn't mind being stuck at road.

They are making it a huge issue as they know that these lies are their last resort in Punjab.

Video Of PM Security Breach: Group Carrying BJP Flag Dangerously Close

New Delhi: Two days after a major security breach left Prime Minister Narendra Modi stuck on a Punjab highway for 20 minutes, a video shows a group of BJP workers standing barely a few metres from the PM's car.

The video shows the group, carrying a BJP flag, shouting slogans near the Prime Minister's car - a black Toyota Fortuner - standing on the other side of the highway.

The car then moves away, with the elite Special Protection Group (SPG) personnel forming a shield.

PM Modi was driving to a rally in Ferozepur when his convoy was caught in the middle of a flyover with protesting farmers blocking the route.

The BJP workers, heading to the same rally, were also stranded as traffic stopped. When they realised that the PM's convoy was also on the flyover, they tried to get closer to his car.

This is another example of a huge lapse in the PM's security that day.

My simple genuine question is how is that possible in this day and age with information at finger tips to fluff your way to 2 terms as a Prime Minister ? What are the facts that you have access to which others don't ?

The opinions and views of the plaintiff (the accuser i.e @MP2011 ) must be respected and heard provided these accusations can be backed up by independently verifiable facts. My point ( more like a humble plea ) is that posters on this forum MUST at all costs try to hold ourselves to a higher standard than the avg voter.

The assumption(could very well be wrong!! which is a more intriguing discussion in itself ) here is that all parties in this debate are well above the avg education, economic and social strata levels of a avg Indian that votes in the Indian elections(No disrespect intended to the avg voter).

The Indian voters will vote for whoever can give them a decisive and a strong government.

They voted Modi because he promised development, and also because the two pervious Congress government terms were riddled with scams, corruption and had a totally dysfunctional PM at the helm. If the voters believe that the Modi government hasn't met their expectations, they will kick them out too. It's how things work in a democracy.

Indian voters have been quite clever overall. They tend to choose quite wisely from the choices they have, which aren't very great, but that's another discussion. It's often a choice between a rock and a hard place for them and they tend to vote for the lesser evil. If it was Modi the last time, it will be someone else now

Infact, the Indian voters have been way cleverer than some of the posters on this forum who have extended their dislike of Modi to the entire country, including non-political actors like the Army and the Supreme court.

agreed, therefore lets wait for @MP2011 (or anyone else who agrees with that view) to respond and provide substantiation for the allegations. Should be easy to fact check considering that the allegations leveled are that Modi is a serial liar.

Ideally, he should not. Have seen it too many times him steering clear of constituencies where his party's loss is almost certain. If the party does good, it's due to him. If it doesn't, then of course these are state elections and central leadership doesn't have anything to do with that.

However, there are instances too where he threw everything he had during elections and still came up woefully short, case in point being last year's WB assembly elections.

That’s a new one. So Congress was actually really good till it was in power but now BJp is way to go.

It’s shame that despite all that democracy india still is a poor country relative to population and while there’s several bright spots, the majority of the country lives a difficult life. But I guess the people can be thrilled about democracy.

Congress was the Choice because there was no other alternative. BJP only came in 1980. They still managed to rule for 6 years from 1998 to 2004.

People voted them out and chose congress thinking they are better. But the corruption that followed, and the belief that Modi is better people are now voting for BJP. If a better option than BJP comes, they will vote them.Thats how democracy works.

India has come out of colonial slavery barely 75 years back. We have come a long way than almost all other colonies that achieved independence at the same time, but we have a long way to go still.

Paragon of virtue or not, he is the people's choice and in a democracy, no one has the right to overrule the people's choice in an election.

Don't think that's the criteria of any political dispensation doing better or worse in elections.

So many of Mamata's trusted lieutenants jumped Trinamool ship in run up to last year WB assembly elections but what was the end result? Mamata won even bigger tally of seats in that election.

New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi today tweeted on a glitch that had Prime Minister Narendra Modi stop his virtual address at the World Economic Forum (WEF) summit in Davos last evening and start over.

"Itna jhooth teleprompter bhi nahin jhel paya (not even the teleprompter could handle such lies)," Rahul Gandhi tweeted.

A flurry of tweets from BJP handles blamed the glitch on the Davos organisers.

"Don't those getting excited at the tech glitch not realise that the problem was at WEF's end? They were not able to patch PM, so requested him to start again, which is evident in the way Klaus Schwab said that he will again give a short introduction and then open up the session...," tweeted Shalabh Mani Tripathi, media adviser to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Similar tweets emerged on the timelines of other BJP leaders too.

Others tweeted a video that explained what went wrong.

PM Modi's speech started without the English interpretation, the video said, and he was interrupted mid-speech by the coordinator. Klaus Schwab announced the start of the official session after that, the video explained, and then PM Modi restarted his speech with the English translation.

In his speech at the five-day online 'Davos Agenda' summit, PM Modi said India saved many lives by supplying essential medicines and vaccines during pandemic.

He also told world leaders it is the best time to invest in India, as he detailed various steps the country has taken to make it the "most attractive" investment destination in the world.

"India offers a 'bouquet of hope' to the world. It includes our trust in democracy; it includes our technology, our temperament, and talent," he said.

It's not anyone's fault that bigot is clueless about everything under the sun except for speaking very fluently about religious bigotry and spreading hatred and of course telling lies.

This man hasn't addressed a single press conference for god knows how long as that involves speaking extempore on various issues and this guy can't utter a single word without crutches offered by his army of spin masters and assistants. Of course, they can't script those events like they do with his other 'media' interactions.

    So clueless is this creature.

Let’s try to stick on topic guys.

    No need to be personal.

Politician or celebrities have to face criticism to some extent.

Sure. Nobody here is saying that *any* politician is perfect. But for the usual suspects to brazenly and blatantly hurl serious accusations (without providing any facts to backup those allegations despite me asking multiple times) against a PM who has won 2 elections and consistently tops the approval ratings year after year suggests either a deep personal/prejudice or just a juvenile mindset that is allergic to facts. Not sure how that helps quality of discussions.

Just when I start to feel BJP is getting shaky, I see either Rahul Puppu and Sonia Gandhi on TV or the media. Instantly I realize BJP will win the next election (Strong chance)...

I don't believe there has been any opposition in the history of politics in the world in any country that helps the ppl in power than Congress Italian owned party of India.

Yeah, Post COVID Indian Economy is expected to grow further. Facebook has already said they want to invest 5.7 Billion Dollars in India and Bangalore alone has record VC capital funding of close to 18.3 Billion Dollars. These investments created jobs and lift the middle class. Much more needs to be done but things are improving step by step.

It will not matter who the PM of India is, vitriol towards him by Pakistan will not stop.
It is expected. No matter who the PM of India is, the foreign policy and policy towards Pakistan is not going to change. Also, Pakistani's forget that it is the leaders of BJP, Vajpayee and Modi, so callled Hindutatva leaders are the only ones who spent some of their personal political mileage and travelled to Pakistan and meet the leaders there for the purpose of peace. Both were backstabbed by the Pakistani Establishment.
Anyways, who cares about the vitroil. Things got done on the ground vis a vis Kashmir and improving our economy, that is all Indian's care about these days.
If Modi does not do this, other leader will be elected and he will be booted out. Democracy at work, which i guess is hard to understand for some nations.

Not surprised at all, ever since PM Modi has been at helm, he has been working non stop to take India to the next level. Covid was a hiccup but India with its young population is setup well to recover.. PM Modi has not been faultless, the GST imo was a disaster but the intention behind it was good though... As long as the looting, fraud Italians are kept away from power and control, India will be ok....

PM's "Dress Code" Slammed By Chief Minister KCR Ahead Of Their Meeting

Telangana: Prime Minister Narendra Modi "dresses for elections" and his budget exemplifies "style without substance" - Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao unleashed Insults 101 on the PM and the BJP as he ripped into the Budget yesterday, calling it "terrible and golmaal (chaotic)". In three days, the two come face-to-face for a mega event, but Mr Rao says he won't flinch at sharing his criticism in person.
"Upar Shervani, andar pareshani (all style, no substance)," the Chief Minister quipped, mocking the "Gujarat model" that the BJP flaunts as an example of PM Modi's governance.

Mr Rao or KCR doesn't mince words when he decides on a target. Ironically, he has been accused in the past of being the B-team for the BJP and his Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) has mostly backed the Modi government on key legislation in Parliament.

"With social media management, lying blatantly, repeating a lie again and again, they managed to fool the people so far. But now they have been exposed. They play communal politics of hate and division," he said.

On PM Modi, he sneered: "If it is election time, he has to grow a beard and appear like Rabindranath Tagore. Arrey baap re. If it is Tamil Nadu, he must wear a lungi (sic), what is this?...What does the country get With these kind of gimmicks, what does the country get? If it is the Punjab election, he will wear a pagdi (turban). In Manipur, it will be a Manipuri cap, in Uttarakhand, it will be another topi (cap), how many caps like this?"

KCR is one of the best CMs in India, hands down. Telangana has made immense strides in every sphere under him.
He is far ahead of the inefficient chatterboxes like Mamta or Kejriwal and is one of the *very* few politicians in India who can successfully lead a third front against the BJP.

What's funny in all these is that I really feel sorry for Indian opposition parties when I have no reason to be. And those gullible people who are hoping against hope from such parties are poor victims unfortunately.

So as per US polls Modi is the most popular global leader with an approval rating of 73% and that too after remaining in power for 8 years. India under him has the highest Q3 GDP growth among all G20 countries.

And all opposition could come up with is his dress code and a faulty teleprompter?

And the liberal channels like NDTV lapping onto it as if its a crime if someone wears a sherwani.

How dumb, just how dumb these parties are.

Corner him in some real issues and give people a reason why should they not vote for him. If your narrative is dress code and faulty teleprompter, then I am afraid Modi is here for a long haul. Next survey his popularity rating may soar 90%

KCRs dressing sense is very good perhaps

Gullible are those who think by sitting abroad they make any difference to India and Indians or to its polity. They don't matter one bit in the scheme of things.

Let those gullible souls come back to India and live under 'Ram Rajya' ushered in by their god and see themselves what ordinary Indians are going through for last 7-odd years.

But no, they won't come back to live in India from the comfortable environs they're living in and lecture us what's good for us!

Modi was elected to power with a majority in lok sabha, twice. The voters are Indians, living in India.

BJP won 303 seats in LS, KCR or Stalin or Mamata etc cant win 50.

But we will have disgruntled souls crying their hearts out to foreigners on the internet about how Modi is bad.

Exactly my point. Taking a dig at foreigners is easy but its actually Indians living in India voting for Modi. If original Indians are going though a rough phase under Modi why are they voting for him? Why the survey shows that he is the most popular leader in the world?

Think my liberal brothers are still unable to digest that they have been voted out by Indians living in India

Does the survey you keep talking about include foreingers or only indians? I know you can make a point of comparing the percentages with the other leaders and then brag about it. But to me you are a great leader when people outside your own circle praise you. In this case it would be the random swede, italian, algerian etc. If he is getting praise from these people then he is indeed a popular leader.

Its the approval rating i.e how many people in that country approve him as their leader.

72% of Indians approve him being them PM compared to only 30% Brits approve Boris as their PM or 41% of Americans approve Biden as their President.

    Read here - https://morningconsult.com/global-leader-approval/

So if Indians living in India are suffering under his regime as my fellow poster claimed and only NRIs support him, how come he is getting highest approval rating?

Also, India Today - C Voter conducted Mood of the nation survey just last week where Modi remains the most favoured leader.

Given that Modi is not the PM of Sweden, Algeria or Italy, he can give a rats a** to what the random guy/girl from there thinks of him. What's important is what the Indians, his own subjects, think of him. By most accounts, he is still the most popular leader in India. Full stop.

And as long as the clueless opposition keeps picking on his sherwani or his english, and does not address the fundamental issues with Modi's governance, the people will keep voting for Modi. There is nothing else they can do.

    I heard Gandhi's speec the other day and here are some points I remember;

    - Unemployment is a major problem in the country, he said it has increased in these years.
    - The foucs is not on the SMB's, rather 10 big families have got more assets than 40 % of the population combined
    - India are not on good terms with one single of it's neighbours
    - India are isolated in the region although they tried their best to isolate Pakistan
    - India is divided in 2 by BJP/RSS

If some of these points are true, then it's not only about his shervani or english.

If some of these points are true, then it's not only about his shervani or english.
Sanghis dismiss Rahul as a nobody, inconsequential and a clown and then marshal all their troops to attack him from all corners whenever he utters a word against their god.

Lol, it can't be more ironic!

    Same is true for devotees.

I''ll speak for myself. I would be the first one to applaud Rahul Gandhi if he said something sensible against Modi.

Saying that Modi brought Pakistan and China together is the most idiotic thing that can ever come from anyone. India has had issues with both long before Modi ever entered politics.

Clowns that utter ** deserve the worst of attacks.

He was vacationing so he isn't aware of what's happening in India!

Pappu is now creating conspiracy of State identity vs National identity.
If Govt ignores Pappu, congress clowns will say BJP doesn't have answers to his questions.
If Govt exposes Pappu, congress clowns will say why BJP is giving him importance if he is not true leader.

    Two things
The more he speaks ,the better for BJP. It's already proven.
Secondly, no one wants to miss free comedy show.

India need better opposition not these Gandhi Clowns.

Rahul Gandhi spends half of his time vaccationing either in Italy or Thailand. Then once in a bluemoon he comes to the parliament and gives these speeches written for him by someone else. I heard this speech of his was written by Shashi Tharoor.

Sometimes he also winks and hugs in parliament

How can anyone takes him seriously?

But even if we ignore the clown king for a minute, none of his points makes any sense either.

    1) Yes there is an unemployment issue in India but it was expected after the global pandemic. Infact most countries having economic issue, price rise and unemployment. Considering India's population, it is always in the cards. Its not as if Congress comes to power tomorrow, all youths will be employed.

    2) India is in good term with all neighbours except Pakistan. India has great relation with Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Srilanka, Butan...even with countries like Afghanistan and Middle East.

    3) He says India is isolated by religion but then he himself says he is janeyudhari brahmin and rush to temple before election. Then when election is over, he says most people goes to temple for eve teasing.

No major corruption case or any major terror attacks in Modi's 8 year rule. His tenure has been clean as a slate. Someone need to show Rahul Gandhi the mirror and remind him of all the scams going under Manmohan Singh's time.

People supports Modi not bcoz he is 100% perfect. No one is and he also has many flaws. But people supports him bcoz he is an honest trier. Sometimes he is successful and sometimes not but the effort is there. That is all matters.

    1. Agreed. Thats why the stress on manufacturing in India.

    2. Lie. India is churning out start up unicorns at a very fast rate. Ofcourse in a 3 trillion dollar company there would be big business houses. Will Rahul Gandhi name these 10 families, so that we may know how poor these guys were in 2014. May be RaGa will also tell why the sensex has climbed such dizzying heights and forex are at all time high?

    3. Again another lie. The governments of Maldives Nepal Bhutan even myanmar are friendly. SL just took a 2.5bn usd loan from India to import stuff.

    4..a bigger lie

    5. India is divided into 30 states, many religions and castes.

As for why opposition is not debating or pointing out this regime's all round failures on all fronts, perhaps some are too oblivious of what's happening in India these days, they seem to be too busy in worshipping their god.

If they've an iota of inkling how this despotic regime works, they'd know that they're the ones who'll talk about religion, Shamshan kabristan, love jihad, Pakistan, temple, cows and what not whenever elections come as they know what their gullible electorate wants to hear! After all, these are the issues which are plaguing Indian society.

Sanghis are biggest purveyors of lies and obscuring the relevant issues which must be discussed and not the other way round. They're the ones who get most political mileage out of this tactic and not the other way round. It's so easy to see for someone who possess eyes and brain.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tops the list of most popular world leaders

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has topped the list of most popular world leaders. According to the global approval rating released by Morning Consult Political Intelligence, PM Narendra Modi has a 71 per cent approval rating. Andrés Manuel López Obrador (Mexico) is second in the list with a 66 per cent approval rating.

Among other prominent global leaders, US President Joe Biden has a 43 per cent approval rating, while UK PM Boris Johnson has a 26 per cent approval rating.

"The latest approval ratings are based on data collected from January 13-19, 2022. Approval ratings are based on a seven-day moving average of adult residents in each country, with sample sizes varying by country," Morning Consult said on its website.

70 per cent of surveyed Indians believe that country is heading in the right direction

In a detailed trend displayed on the website of Morning Consult, PM Narendra Modi's approval rating was the highest (84 per cent) in May 2020. It dipped to 63 per cent in May 2021 and is currently at 71 per cent. This is not the first time PM Moi has topped the global approval ratings. In November 2021 as well, PM Modi was the most 'approved' leader in the world.

Another section, Country Trajectories, which, according to the website, shows respondents' views on 'whether their country is going in the right direction', shows that 70 per cent of surveyed Indians are of the view that India is heading in the right direction, while 30 per cent believe that it is on the 'wrong track'.

PM Modi's food security scheme averted rise in extreme poverty: IMF study

An IMF study — Pandemic, Poverty, and Inequality: Evidence from India — has stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s food security scheme, PMGKAY, prevented a rise in extreme poverty in India.

Found that extreme poverty in India was less than 1% in 2019 and it remained constant even during the pandemic in 2020.

A study by the International Monetary fund has found that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s food security project — the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana — has been critical in preventing any increase in extreme poverty levels in India during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“PMGKAY was critical in preventing any increase in extreme poverty levels in India and the doubling of food entitlements worked substantially in terms of absorbing the Covid-induced income shocks on the poor,” the report stated.

Last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the extension of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) till September 2022. Under the PMGKAY, free food grain is provided to those in need.

“A low level of extreme poverty for two consecutive years, including one marked by the pandemic, can be considered as elimination of extreme poverty,” it read.

The report stated that pandemic shock is largely a temporary income shock and that temporary fiscal policy interventions have been fiscally appropriate to absorb a large part of it.

Consumption growth, an important determinant of poverty, was found to be higher in 2014-19 than the robust growth observed in 2004-2011.

The paper also examines in detail the plausibility of the results contained in the NSS consumer expenditure survey of 2017-18.
