Women’s Big Bash League - Discussion Thread

Sydney: Cricket Australia (CA), in a historic move, will announce details of the inaugural Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) at the iconic Luna Park here on Friday.

The event will provide media and other attendees with information about the first season of the new league which is set to attract world class players to Australia and encourage women and girls to get more involved in cricket.

The first players selected for each WBBL club will also be revealed at the launch along with the full season fixture and ground-breaking broadcast arrangements.

CA's Senior Manager of Team Performance Belinda Clark will attend the event.

Hopefully BCCI won't stop its women cricketers to take part in Women's Big Bash league. Women cricketers need money.

I think today BCCI announced 21lakhs funds for Women cricket team. And every country should allow their players.

Same here. BCCI should allow non contracted players to play the Men's BBL too. And all women's cricketers in Women's BBL

I wish they had turned BBL into a mixed league. Like at least two female players or something. That would have been fun.

Hope it goes well. But lets be real, grounds will never be full to watch the women crawl to 98/9 on a batting pitch with 45m boundaries.

    unless Ellyse Perry is playing

Yeah you are right. Its down right to the fact that even woman dont follow these sports even if woman are playing. I was met with a pleasant surprise in the recent USA/Japan football final but then again it was a WC final.

Nida Dar signs historic Sydney Thunder deal

Nida Dar has made history by becoming the first woman from Pakistan to sign a deal with an international cricket league, having been picked up by Sydney Thunder for their 2018/19 Women’s Big Bash League campaign.

A highly experienced all-round cricketer, Dar has long been one of Pakistan Women’s most reliable players. Her 88 T20I wickets is a joint record for Pakistan with former captain Sana Mir, while her 1086 runs have come at a healthy strike rate of 96.27.

Sydney Thunder were the inaugural WBBL champions
She is currently in some of the best form of her career, having played a starring role in Pakistan’s close-fought 3-2 T20I series defeat to South Africa in May. She struck two half-centuries in the series, including a stunning 37-ball 75, the second-fastest women’s T20I fifty of all time.

Thunder have failed to make the final of the WBBL since their title win in the maiden edition of the tournament. Having been knocked out in the semi-finals in each of the last two seasons, they will be hoping that Dar, alongside the likes of Rachael Haynes, Alex Blackwell, Rene Farrell and Rachel Priest, can help them bring home that elusive trophy.
