Does a defeat to NZ or an abandoned match effectively end Australia's WT20 campaign?
With Pakistan, Bangladesh and India (certain defeat) still to come, this match is of great importance to the Aussies.
The match against NZ was probably one of the two matches they could count on winning, losing this or sharing points could be enough to send the Aussies packing.
Pakistan have hit form and have shown in the past they are more than capable of beating this Aus side, so that's 2 matches they're going into as underdogs.
No pressure @Convict

One match and hopes touching 7th sky let's play against india first than we can think of beating Australia.
But yes it is such tough group that a single loss or shared points can count big. If you lose 2 matches than its dificult to qualify. since NZ has already won against india and if they win against Au. Than the race will be for second spot.

Inshallah Pakistan smash the Aussies, but if anyone thinks that it will be a walk-over, they are kidding themselves. Australia will no doubt be favorites when we meet, regardless of what happens between now and then.

Agree with OP. One of the more sensible posters around. Amir will thrash australia to the point where they will forfeit the world cup and go back home crying.

Australia can definitely score near to 200 against any attack if the pitch is not giving anything to any kind of bowler (Especially they can do so in some of the flat tracks at their home). But here there is always some vulnerability about their batting and history says they struggle against Ind, Pak & SL.
NZ was also the same kind of team (or even poorer) but they have developed leaps and bounds, their success is credit to their bowlers, otherwise they would have followed the Aussie suit (as their batsmen more or less play like Aussies)
I think Pakistan can fancy their chances against these two teams, as Pakistan can plan properly against them now after watching the previous NZ match with India and also today's match!Last edited by RamLakhan; 18th March 2016 at 09:59.

I guess the Australia match will be the biggest test for Amir, if it turns out to be a flat track.
Australians are the biggest phatta warriors in the world (more than us) and if he manages to get them in a tangle on a flat track, then it would be a fantastic achievement for him.

Our bowling attack is overrated.
Especially our spinners are nothign special and shouldnt trouble Aussies

Isn't this the same bowling attack who couldn't take more than a couple of wickets against NZ over 2 T20Is ?

All this talk about beating Australia. Their batting wont get run over by any means, Watson showed what he can do against spin in the PSL, Khawaja could be brought in to tackle the spin, maxi and steve smith are both pretty good hitter of spin. We do have a better chance dealing with their bowling than the other two teams left to face. Problem still might be Australia's fielding creating the pressure allowing them to pick wickets. Having said that, I do expect Pakistan to win 2 of the remaining 3 games.
Referring the original post, Australia really do need to win today, will be very tough to stay alive with a loss to start with in this group. The pressure alone of the must win games can make you do funny stuff.

I honestly have no idea whether some of these posters are joking or not. I'm new here so I'll assume that you and others think that our Paks will beat Australia.
Have Pakistan not given you enough heartache at bombing out miserably time after time, after giving us false hope? Must I remind you about the Asia cup so recently?
What have we done? Beaten a qualifier.....a minnow? Sure twas a good win and I celebrated long and hard, but now I'm back to reality. The Aussies are so far ahead of us, it's not funny.
What will you all be saying after Aus smash NZ, and we get smashed by India?
I refuse to set myself up for dissapointment. I've learnt my lessons from my beloved Green brothers. Australia is a giant.....let's be realistic.
Inshallah we pull something out of the hat, and inshallah I am proven wrong.....

Pakistan's only advantages against Australia is off course Amir and that Umar Akmal almost always shows up against them.
I think a defeat against NZ wont kill Australia off but from a pakistani perspective that's the result we should hope for

Aus batting is too good and should chase it comfortably. They should always win toss and bowl first.
Hard to get a handle on this double edged sword

New Zealand has good bowling unit, good spinners + good pace bowlers (and not just trundlers as sometimes they do possess). That is the reason (+ toss) why they won both the games. Otherwise considering just their batting it is no different from Australia. India would have won the last game at least fighting hard till the end, but NZ bowlers were relentless! Otherwise (without good bowling unit) NZ would have lost both the games (like how they were poor in the previous world cup in SC and also some games against Bangladesh). Toss is also playing vital role! Hence Pak and Bangladesh should target this team more than Aussies.

I remember in the 2011 WC, Pakistan demolished Australia and in the very match India whipped them back to Sydney and Melbourne and Wollongong..
I hope us and the parosis repeat the same feat again.
