TBF, Shehzad's List A average seems bad because it includes his international ODI matches as well and it is safe to say that Fakhar also won't be averaging 52 in List A after playing 75 ODIs.

If tried and tested failures are just that i.e. keep coming and failing and then being dumped, than why not give someone like Fakhar a chance?

I have watched a few of innings (highlights only) and he seems to be pretty decent. Being an opener if he is averaging so high it is like 'Andhon mein kaana raja' like situation because our openers rarely average that high even in FC games

You have give him chances at International level, in order to develop his game even more, rather than leaving him to regress in domestic cricket.

Awesome knock !!! Got out on 180 really wanted him to complete 200 against Zimbabwe A, but none the less a befitting reply to the selectors of PCB who selected a Shoaib Malik for an year on basis of 183 runs in 3 matches against Zimbabwe. Fakhar Zaman made it in one inning with a strike rate of 124 and 6sx4.

If anyone in PCB claims that the Pak ODI XI is the best ODI team in Pakistan and there is no talent no bench strength in Pak, is now officially the biggest joke in world cricket.

Pakistan [ranked #9] more than ever needs to win ODIs to qualify for World Cup and PCB is playing a dangerous game by keeping its favorites in the Odi team.

I think we should give Sharjeel all three ODIs in this series. If he averages under 35 against Windies attack in this series, then Fakhar could replace him for the next ODI and T20 series.

@TalentSpotterPk - that's exactly why Fakhar was excluded.

Brilliant knock today from Fakhar but he probably would've been more challenged in domestic cricket than by this Zimbabwe A team which other than Chatara, its bowling attack is pretty impotent.

3 years ago he looked great against Mohammad Irfan in his peak when he was hitting 150 kph. He also dominated Ajmal in his peak.

Don't know why he started crouching while facing pacers which was not in his technique and method 3 years ago.

In Pakistan Cup we saw him struggling against good pace bowlers while he was good against spinners.

He is a very consistent Run-getter. Hats off to him but He struggles against decent Pacers. He is excellent against spinners. If He stops crouching so low against pacers and uses his top hand more than his off side play against good pacers will improve and he will be more efficient against pacers.

England Tour was a Big Tour for him and he was ahead of both Sharjeel & Jaahid for a Pakistan Call but Sharjeel (with all his weaknesses) & Jaahid (with his compactness) outperformed Fakhar Zaman considerably hence He did not make Pakistan Odi Squad.

That's why our selectors are incompetent, they preferred one series statistics over career statistics.

First get Fakhar as the back-up batsman in the squad. At the moment we have too many pacers in the side and few back-up batsmen.

Also kudos for finally ditching the "get Shehzad in the side" mantra.

What was the Logic to Drop Sharjeel for Fakhar when Sharjeel significantly comprehensively outplayed outnumbered Fakhar Zaman on England A tour ?

Fakhar was far behind Sharjeel, Babar & Jaahid on England Tour.

There should be some logic in Criticising Selectors.

Fakhar has not been dumped by Pakistan Selectors. He is in Pakistan A squad for a reason despite having an Average England Tour but for that you won't credit the Selectors but if he would have been dropped by Selectors than you would have grabbed them from their neck as you lately recommended firing Inzamam ul Haq as Chief Selector as he did not Select Ahmed Shehzad for Odi Squad after Pakistan Cup.

This is what I am saying, preferring one series over career statistics is a joke, plus he outplayed Sharjeel and Jaahid in the Pakistan Cup, the selectors should have been lenient.

But, anyways, he is a must for the upcoming series, if not select again, then the selectors must be fired.

The selectors don't make selections based on spreadsheets, a players form is a very important factor in their selection and Fakhar was outperformed by a country mile on the England tour

Oh nice... Completely slipped under the radar. All we were hearing this season was Kamraan Akmal and Usman Salahuddin.

Well, they're averaging in the 70s.

Openers won't be expected to rack up as many runs, though. Fakhar still averaging the highest of the lot.

And also opening the innings ahead of the 'senior'.

Didn't play any first-class matches against England Lions in England.

Anyway, sample size is small. There need to be more A games in different countries.

Looked awful today as well. Hope the cricinfo experts realize during this PSL that he is a limited player. Been saying it for ages. Nothing batsman who will be a liability in international cricket.

Thank God PP'ers are not selectors they would drop talented youngsters after one or two matches but their favourites will continue to play for years despite zero performance.

with Sharjeel and Latif out, Azhar probably on the way out, Sami having failed, and Shehzad being Shehzad, and Hafeez laying golden ducks all over... Zaman may be the best LOI opener available

I agree that Fakhar deserves a go, but Shehzad deserves a recall as well, he performed very well in the recent tournaments and it seems like he's getting mature, at least you can't say this much about the likes of Umar Akmal

He is all at sea against pace bowling. There is no conviction in his shots and don't think he is cut for international level. He might not have many chances left to impress so he has to make it count and fast. In both matches he came behind relatively good starts but failed to impress

There is definitely a point when he seems to be one of the best of your handful of alternatives. With Sharjeel and Khalid potentially gone, we have Fakhar/Imam/Shahzaib as the only few openers who seem to be untested and have actually been performing lately.

If you're not interested, feel free to revert to Kamran Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad.

Kamran Akmal is better than this guy and I don't even want him in the team. Have you even seen this guy bat? Or are you just looking at his misleading stats on cricinfo like the usual people?

You all are speaking as if you've seen him bat in tons of games.

Yes stats aren't everything, but they are still a good enough indication a lot of the times. And it would be more logical to give someone who can put up numbers a decent run, because most can't even do that.

Fakhar hasn't played in a lot of televised games, so I suggest we give him more PSL games and then judge.

If you believe otherwise, name alternatives.

I have watched enough of him to make a judgement.

Statistics are a joke in Pakistan and the majority know that.

    How much is enough, exactly?

So if person X averages 45 and persons Y and Z average around 35, you're saying it wouldn't make sense to go for person X, because "stats are a joke"?

Yeah, which is why I've been saying Shahzaib/Fakhar/Imam should be next in line (assuming they don't consider the option of Umar).
