    Test Cricket Draft [Winner: SL_Fan]

    Here's how it will work:

There will be 11 draft rounds where each team will pick a player (must have played Test cricket obviously). The aim of the game is to pick the best possible team from the players available (there will be a vote at the end).

Once a player is chosen by a team none of the other teams can pick that player (also once a pick is made and the next team in the draft order has made their pick that's it no take backs - there will be a trading period at the end however).

As we have done before we’ll be going with a snake draft (ie draft order reverses at the end of each round) but to spice things up a bit rather than a random draft order this time we’ll have teams bid for first round spots.

Each team will start off with 60000 points to pay for the players and for bidding on spots (points can't be traded/exchanged even during the trading period). To keep things simple we'll use batting/bowling averages to come up with the cost of players.

Cost of Players - see the Cost sheet in the google doc

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...#gid=628560031

Total points = 60000 points (For players and spot bidding)

    Batsmen

Points for players according to batting average - For wk/batsmen add 1000 points

    under 25 = 2000 points
    25 to 30 = 2500 points
    30 to 35 = 3000 points
    35 to 40 = 3500 points
    40 to 45 = 4000 points
    45 to 50 = 4500 points
    50 to 55 = 5000 points
    55 to 60 = 5500 points
    60 to 80 = 6500 points
    over 80 = 8500 points

    Bowlers

Points for players according to bowling average

    under 20 = 7000 points
    20 to 25 = 6000 points
    25 to 30 = 5000 points
    30 to 35 = 4000 points
    35 to 40 = 3000 points
    over 40 = 2000 points

    All-rounders

    Batting points + Bowling points

Note: If a bowler averages more than 24 with the bat he’ll be considered as an all-rounder.

    Part-timers

    Batting points + Bowling points - 500

Note: Bowling average must be 35+ and must have a minimum of 25 Test wickets. Also cannot average more than a wicket a game.
Teams must stay under budget, remain fairly active and abide by the Asian International Drafting Council regulations at all times. If not it won’t be pretty chow can tell you that much.

    Test Draft Google Doc

Test Draft Google Doc Link (Bookmark it to make things easier)

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...#gid=242359891

Enter Player's first and last names [Player's role] Cost in there once you have made your pick to keep the doc updated.

Also please enter them in order of your pick not the batting order etc. You can sort that out later after the draft is done.
Picks should be in this format: Player's first and last names [Player's role] Cost. You will have to enter those in the doc afterwards and keep track of your spending. Remember that if you go over the budget there will be hefty penalties.

Please note that to keep things fair for all once a pick is made and the next team in the draft order has made their pick that's it. No changes except for the player role after that (there will be a trading/player release period at the end however). So make sure that you bookmark the google doc and check there first to see that no one else has picked the player before submitting your picks.

Also the matches will be played on a traditional Test wicket. Not at the WACA sorry @Convict Assistance for the quicks during the first couple of days, runs for the batsmen when they get in, and breaking up on days four and five bringing the spinners into the game. Keep in mind that when it comes to voting the balance of the side, variety in the attack, leadership etc will matter.

This is the draft order (ie draft order reverses at the end of each round)

    Asian International Drafting Council Rules

Stay active and try to finish your turn as soon as possible so you don't hold up everyone else. If there's a hold-up of more than 12 hours since your turn was up then you will be skipped and moved down to the bottom of the list. If you miss that one as well (8 hours) then you will be skipped again and all your missed picks will be moved down to your next turn and so on. Three missed turns during the draft and chow will get angry. You don't want to see chow angry.

Picks should be in this format: Player's first and last names [Player's role - Cost]. Once a pick is made and the next team in the draft order has made their pick that's it no take backs (there will be a trading/player release period at the end - released players can't be picked again).

All teams must keep track of their spending and meet their budget requirements. If a team happens to go over the 60000 point budget after the draft is done (ie before the trading/player release period) then there will be a 1000 point penalty for each 500 point increment the team is over by. Only after the draft is done will they be allowed to release and/or trade player/s (can't trade points however).

You have to pick a proper team. Your team must comprise of at least 4 bowling options, a wicket-keeper and a captain. Also the players must have played at least a single Test.

Rules for bidding on spots: Bidding will be in multiples of 500. A team can bid on max three live spots but obviously will only end up with just one spot (live spots as in say a team has bid on three spots but gets outbid in one, then it can bid again for that same spot or can also go for another spot). If a team ends up winning more than one spot then it can choose the preferred spot and the next highest available bidder from the other spot/s will win those. To fill the spot/s with no winning bids we’ll rank the teams (those still without a designated spot) according to their highest non-winning bid (ie for any of the spots - if the highest non-winning bid happens to be the same then the earliest bid wins). For teams who fail to bid and ends up without a designated spot chow will just have to get the good ol randomiser out.

Rules for voting: At the end each team will be asked to select the top 3 teams in order (can't vote for yourself duh). First will get 2 points, second 1.5 points and third 1 point. Then we'll tally up the votes and obviously the team with most points will win (aka chow's team). If teams somehow end up with the same number of points then the one with most first place votes will win. If things are equal there as well then the team with most second place votes will win. If things are the same there as well then the team with the highest bid will win. If things are even-stevens there as well then the team that is lower down in the first round draft order will win.

Chow reserves the right to change the rules as he sees fit to suit his needs and desires.

Last but not least friendly banter is encouraged. It would be great if you can also write a few lines about your picks as well. Even a copied paragraph, some useful stats etc would be fine.

    Example round

In case all this is confusing for those who are new to international asian drafts this is how a round of picks will work:

Round 1 order (there will be 11 ordered rounds - teams get to bid on spots this time as explained in op)

    A
    B
    C

    Draft starts

Team A picks Rubel Hossain [Bowler - 3000 points (Test bowling ave 76 oh em gee that's an elel-esque pick there team A)]. Now Rubel is out of the game for everyone.

Now that team A is done it moves on to team B (you have to await your turn according to the draft order - need to be active so there's not much of a hold-up for rest of the teams)

Team B picks Sarfraz Ahmed [Keeper - 5500 points (Test batting ave 46 not bad at all + 1000 points for the wk)]. Now Sarfraz is out of the game for everyone.

Now that team B is done it moves on to team C

Team C picks Shane Watson [All-rounder - 7500 points (Test batting ave 35.2 + Test bowling ave 34)]. Now Watson is out of the game. Sad face.

Now that the first round is done it moves on to round two - snake draft (ie draft order reverses at the end of each round)

    C
    B
    A

So team C makes it's pick and so on until all 11 rounds are completed.

You can pair up if you want chief. This sort of draft is probably more fun as individuals tho I think. That way you get to form your own team and combinations etc.

    Test Draft Google Doc

Link (Bookmark it to make things easier)

Picks should be in this format: Player's first and last names [Player's role] Cost. You will have to enter those in the doc afterwards and keep track of your spending. Remember that if you go over the budget there will be hefty penalties.

Please note that to keep things fair for all once a pick is made and the next team in the draft order has made their pick that's it. No changes except for the player role after that (there will be a trading/player release period at the end however). So make sure that you bookmark the google doc and check there first to see that no one else has picked the player before submitting your picks.

Also the matches will be played on a classical Test wicket. Not at the WACA sorry @Convict Assistance for the quicks during the first couple of days, runs for the batsmen when they get in, and breaking up on days three, four and five bringing the spinners into the game. Keep in mind that when it comes to voting the balance of the side, variety in the attack, leadership etc will matter.

@SL_Fan Chow buddy a few questions.
What will be the criteria to judge players? Current form, overall career record or peak performances? Also how do you define 'active' players? Someone who has not officially retired?

In these sorts of drafts I guess you have to assume that the players are in decent nick. So bit of both I would say peak form and overall record. Also you’ll have to look at balance of the side, variety, leadership, fielding, combinations, strengths and weaknesses etc. The usual stuff.

Active as in teams finishing their turn as soon as possible so they don't hold everyone else up. Nothing to do with the players bud There’s a 15 hour window atm to give some leeway to people who might be asleep when their turn is up but it doesn’t mean that teams should take 15 hours to make their pick. Let’s see how things go anyway. If there are a lot of hold ups we can reduce the number of hours.

No I mean which players can we pick? Can we pick retired ones? If not what about someone like Moyo who hasn't officially retired but has been away for ages.

You can pick any Test cricketer you want champ. Test cricketer as in they must have at least played a single Test that's the only condition. So retired players, current players all fair game. But do note that teams have a budget of only 60000 for players and bidding for draft spots (cost of players are based on batting/bowling averages to keep things simple - see OP).

    Total points = 60000 points

    Batsmen

Points for players according to batting average - For wk/batsmen add 1000 points

    under 25 = 2000 points
    25 to 30 = 2500 points
    30 to 35 = 3000 points
    35 to 40 = 3500 points
    40 to 45 = 4000 points
    45 to 50 = 4500 points
    50 to 55 = 5000 points
    55 to 60 = 5500 points
    60 to 80 = 6500 points
    over 80 = 8500 points

    Bowlers

Points for players according to bowling average

    under 20 = 7000 points
    20 to 25 = 6000 points
    25 to 30 = 5000 points
    30 to 35 = 4000 points
    over 35 = 3000 points

Just noticed that there might be a bit of a problem here when it comes to all-rounders.

    e.g. Shane Watson [All-rounder - 7500 points (Test batting ave 35.2 + Test bowling ave 34)]

Now if a team buys him as a batsman for 3500 points there’s not much of an issue because he won’t be considered as a bowling option when it comes to voting. He’ll be just a batsman.

However if a team buys him as a bowler for 4000 points we have a problem because he’ll be a batsman as well regardless.

So let’s make it that if a bowler averages more than 24 with the bat he’ll be considered as an all-rounder. I think that should close that loophole.

Test Cricket Draft - Bidding Thread [Spots 1-6]

    Rules for bidding on spots:

Bidding will start at 10:00 GMT on Wednesday the 27th of July (if there are any issues with that please lemme know).

Bidding will be in multiples of 500.

Bidding for a spot will automatically close if no one outbids the highest bidder within a 5 hour period.

A team can bid on max three live spots at a time but obviously will only end up with just one spot - live spots as in say a team has bid on three spots but gets outbid in one, then it can bid again for that same spot or can also go for another spot.

Bids should be in this format: First Round Draft Spot [Bid amount in points]. Make sure it’s colour coded as well to make things easier for everyone. Also once a bid is made that's it no take backs.

    1st Red
    2nd Blue
    3rd Green
    4th Orange
    5th Lime
    6th Purple

If a team ends up winning more than one spot then it can choose the preferred spot and the next highest available bidder from the other spot/s will win those.

To fill the spot/s with no winning bids we’ll rank the teams (those still without a designated spot) according to their highest non-winning bid (ie for any of the spots - that highest non-winning bid will be deducted from a team's total points btw). If the highest non-winning bid happens to be the same then the earliest bid wins).

For teams who fail to bid and ends up without a designated spot chow will just have to get the good ol randomiser out.
