    1) Hope for a miracle from Malik, Sarfraz and Imad
    2) Hope seaming conditions remain for Wahab, Amir etc. and take wickets up front
    3) Use Yasir to apply pressure (no use if England are 100/0 after 10 overs chasing 220)

    Early wickets are needed.

Wahab does not know how to use seaming conditions. He could always get
lucky with pace, but it will be up to Hasan Ali and Amir.

Azhar Ali is a good defensive player and is good in the top order if your team has dashers around him. Pakistan have Fakhar but Babar, Hafeez and Malik are similar sort of players. All four of them together in the top order is an overkill. A team can probably have one Azhar sort of player if rest of your batting is aggressive.

When Kenya had their dream run at the 2003 WC - it didn't make them worldbeaters overnight or consistent performers thereafter. They simply lifted their game for a tournament.

Same with Azhar - he had his moment in the sun in the CT where he performed above his normal level but it doesn't mean he isn't still a problem.

The rest of the world have two explosive openers to capitalise on the first PP. NZ have Guptill and Munro to take advantage of these small boundaries and flat pitches but we're trying to compete with Azhar and Imam. We're solely dependent on Zaman for fast starts when we need to find someone to partner him who can play at a similar SR.

Do that and there's less pressure on the middle order and on Sarfraz who doesn't need to bat and run between the wickets as if he's doused in fire desperately trying to move the score along.

He doesn’t half plant that front foot, struggling in ODIs against good bowlers.

Big fan of his in tests - has been a heavyweight top order bat and a fighter, certainly better suited to test game pace.

Alongside Fakhar, I’d open with Hafeez next odi - just ask him to tee off - Haris into the middle order. That change alone and we already look a bit more dynamic...

Not an ODI player. He did well in the CT but that is his best. We need batsmen who have a more dynamic shot range and are able to rotate the strike. Azhar lacks in both these areas . He must be booted out and should stick to test cricket . A honest trier but just not good enough for LO formats.

hafeez never 'just tees off' as a batsman. eats up two overs and may then get going, but if he is opening he is more likely to just nick to off.

Should be boooted out asap. You can’t have more than one player like Azhar in the ODI line-up and we have like 4-6 of them. A recipe of a disaster and the results are to be seen in the current going on series vs NZ. Players like him suck the momentum out of the entire inning.

He’s one of them players that would have been good in the 90s by making everyone look good and played shots while he played the anchor innings and eventually got a runner for being so selfless and all the team and their entourage would have stood up for him as he got in the 44th over trying to accelerate the scoring

Unfortunately in this day and age he’s like an old man with sideburns that still plays the air guitar as he crosses the sidewalk
Like a old protege that was John travolta at high school but still puts grease on his bald patches
When will everyone let go and welcome reality I.e someone who could anywhere from 1-6 but plays as an opener because he’s the best bat in the team and can play on the floor but still score at a run a ball, like Galileo when he pointed out the earth wasn’t flat and people stopped trying to jump off at the edges coz they figured out other ways to bisect the field especially with magical new rules which outlawed off spin and balls which could swing and prevent too many fielders stopping ur singles

Maybe it's true that we're just not a country where there is a batting culture that can develop world class batsmen. That our ODI batting resources have long been impoverished. And that no amount of sixes hit by Sharjeel*, Faheem, Imad, Shadab or the latest PSL sensation will make any of them Kohli, Fakhar, Smith, Warner, Pandya, Bairstow etc etc.

Heck, the captain of our team wouldn't be able to get into any top side as WK or specialist lower order batsman.

Maybe the youngsta beauties will come in and prove me wrong, but there's no reason to believe any of those players are or will be prized wickets against top sides.

Azhar and others like MoHa should still be dropped and give domestic performers a go.

    Realistic expectations.

Even Zimbabwe cricket has fans who don't get furious after every loss.

    * If he comes back.

He is not playing next game. If he plays, then I will assume Pakistani think tank is completely irrational.

he's always been rubbish in the odi format

you guys would praise this pathetic batsman for scoring against mediocre sides

against a top team, he'll perform once in a while.

should not be in the odi side
and i said in 2012 when we played india or 13

I never thought anyone would ever reach Imran Farhat level of annoyance, but Azhar Ali has done it.

What a player! What an atrocity. But then again you can't really blame him, he didn't select himself for the tour.

    Pakistan cricket zindabad!

Absolute rubbish ODI batsmen. @sarfiBabarHarris so Sarfraz likes team players? If he wants to help the team drop Azhar from ODIs.

Forget him, he is a rubbish ODI player anyway, but what did rest if the guys do on this «road» of a pitch? Whole team is poor.

I don't think management will take risk to rest Azhar in next 2 matches.

Scored 68 off 112 balls today. Strike rate of 60.71 but it was in a chase on what seemed like a tricky pitch for batting and his team won so he played a big part. But he should be kept away from the international ODI side.
