    ODI Draft [Winner: Red Devil]

    Here's how it will work:

There will be 11 draft rounds where each team will pick a player [must have played ODIs obviously]. The aim of the game is to pick the best possible team from the players available [there will be a vote at the end].

Once a player is chosen by a team none of the other teams can pick that player [also once a pick is made and the next team in the draft order has made their pick that's it no take backs - there will be a trading period at the end however].

As we have done before we’ll be going with a snake draft [ie draft order reverses at the end of each round] and have teams bid for first round spots.

Each team will start off with 60000 points to pay for the players and for bidding on spots [points can't be traded/exchanged even during the trading period]. To keep things simple we'll use batting averages/strike rates and bowling averages/economy rates to come up with the cost of players.

Cost of Players - see the Cost sheet in the google doc

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...gid=1349175439

Total points = 60000 points [For players and spot bidding]

    Batsmen

Points for players add up Batting Average points and Batting Strike Rate points depending on ODI debut [For wk/batsmen add 500 points]

ODI debut on or before the end of 1995

    Batting Average

    under 25 = 1000 points
    25 to 30 = 1500 points
    30 to 35 = 2000 points
    35 to 40 = 2500 points
    40 to 45 = 3000 points
    over 45 = 3500 points

    Batting Strike Rate

    under 65 = 0 points
    65 to 70 = 500 points
    70 to 75 = 1000 points
    75 to 80 = 1500 points
    80 to 85 = 2000 points
    85 to 90 = 2500 points
    over 90 = 3000 points

ODI debut on or after the beginning of 1996

    Batting Average

    under 30 = 1000 points
    30 to 35 = 1500 points
    35 to 40 = 2000 points
    40 to 45 = 2500 points
    45 to 50 = 3000 points
    over 50 = 3500 points

    Batting Strike Rate

    under 75 = 0 points
    75 to 80 = 500 points
    80 to 85 = 1000 points
    85 to 90 = 1500 points
    90 to 95 = 2000 points
    95 to 100 = 2500 points
    over 100 = 3000 points

    Bowlers

Points for players add up Bowling average and Economy rate

    Bowling Average

    under 20 = 3500 points
    20 to 25 = 3000 points
    25 to 30 = 2500 points
    30 to 35 = 2000 points
    over 35 = 1500 points

    Bowling Economy Rate

    under 3.5 = 2500 points
    3.5 - 4 = 2000 points
    4 - 4.5 = 1500 points
    4.5 - 5 = 1000 points
    5 - 5.5 = 500 points
    over 5.5 = 0 points

    All-rounders

For all-rounders add up Batting points and Bowling points

Note: If a bowler averages more than 20 with the bat he’ll be considered as an all-rounder.

Part-timers [Bowling average 35+ and Max 175 wickets]

500 points + Bowling Economy Rate points

Teams must stay under budget, remain fairly active and abide by the Asian International Drafting Council regulations at all times. If not it won’t be pretty chow can tell you that much.

    ODI Draft Google Doc

ODI Draft Google Doc Link [Bookmark it to make things easier]

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...#gid=486848586

Enter Player's first and last names [Player's role] Cost in there once you have made your pick to keep the doc updated.

Also please enter them in order of your pick not the batting order etc. You can sort that out later after the draft is done.
Picks should be in this format: Player's first and last names [Player's role] Cost. You will have to enter those in the doc afterwards and keep track of your spending. Remember that if you go over the budget there will be hefty penalties.

Please note that to keep things fair for all once a pick is made and the next team in the draft order has made their pick that's it. No changes except for the player role after that [there will be a trading/player release period at the end however]. So make sure that you bookmark the google doc and check there first to see that no one else has picked the player before submitting your picks.

Also the matches will be played on a decent ODI wicket with enough assistance there for the bowlers and runs for the batsmen when they get in. Keep in mind that when it comes to voting the balance of the side, variety in the attack, fielding, leadership etc will matter.

This is the draft order [ie draft order reverses at the end of each round]

    Asian International Drafting Council Rules

Stay active and try to finish your turn as soon as possible so you don't hold up everyone else. If there's a hold-up of more than 6 hours since your turn was up then you will be skipped. You can make your pick whenever you come online. However on your next turn/s from there on in you will only get 4 hours as a result. Three missed turns during the draft and chow will get angry. You don't want to see chow angry.

Picks should be in this format: Player's first and last names [Player's role - Cost]. Once a pick is made and the next team in the draft order has made their pick that's it no take backs [there will be a trading/player release period at the end - released players can't be picked again].

All teams must keep track of their spending and meet their budget requirements. If a team happens to go over the 60000 point budget after the draft is done [ie before the trading/player release period] then there will be a 1000 point penalty for each 500 point increment the team is over by. Only after the draft is done will they be allowed to release and/or trade player/s [can't trade points however].

You have to pick a proper team. Your team must comprise of at least 5 proper bowling options, a wicket-keeper and a captain. Also the players must have played at least a single ODI.

    Rules for bidding on spots:

Bidding will start at 10:00 GMT on Tuesday the 27th of September [if there are any issues with that please let chow know].

Bidding will be in multiples of 500 points and the maximum starting bid is 2000 points. Also the maximum a team can outbid another is by 1000 points.

Bidding for a spot will automatically close if no one outbids the highest bidder within a 10 hour period.

A team can only bid on a maximum of 3 live spots at a time but obviously will only end up with just one spot - live spots as in say a team has bid on 3 spots but gets outbid in one, then it can bid again for that same spot or can also go for another spot. Also just so it’s clear for everyone after a team wins a spot it can’t bid again.

Bids should be in this format: First Round Draft Spot [Bid amount in points]. Make sure it’s colour coded as well to make things easier for everyone. Also once a bid is made that's it no take backs.

If a team ends up winning more than one spot then it will end up with the earliest winning spot and the next highest available bidder/s from the other spot/s have the option of claiming those for either their highest bid for that spot or the winning bid minus 1000 [whichever is the highest]. If however there are no takers/no available bidders then bidding for those spots will be reset asap.

To fill the spot/s with no winning bids we’ll first rank the teams [those still without a designated spot] according to their highest non-winning bid [ie for any of the spots - if the highest non-winning bid happens to be the same then the earliest bid will come first and for those teams who fail to bid at all chow will just have to get the good ol randomiser out]. Then we’ll work out the average winning bid for all the other spots [to the nearest 500] and that amount will be considered the winning bid for each of those left over spot/s.

Rules for voting: At the end each team will be asked to select the top 3 teams in order [can't vote for yourself duh]. First will get 2 points, second 1.5 points and third 1 point. Then we'll tally up the votes and obviously the team with most points will win [aka chow's team]. If teams somehow end up with the same number of points then the one with most first place votes will win. If things are equal there as well then the team with most second place votes will win. If things are the same there as well then the team with the highest bid will win. If things are even-stevens there as well then the team that is lower down in the first round draft order will win.

Chow reserves the right to change the rules as he sees fit to suit his needs and desires.

Last but not least friendly banter is encouraged. It would be great if you can also write a few lines about your picks as well. Even a copied paragraph, some useful stats etc would be fine.

    Example round

In case all this is confusing for those who are new to international asian drafts this is how a round of picks will work:

Round 1 order [there will be 11 ordered rounds - teams get to bid on spots as explained in OP]

    A
    B
    C

    Draft starts

Team A picks Ishant Sharma [Bowler 2000 points] - ODI bowling ave 31 Eco rate 5.7. That's a great pick there team A now Ishant Sharma is out of the game for everyone.

Now that team A is done it moves on to team B [you have to await your turn according to the draft order - need to be active so there's not much of a hold-up for rest of the teams]

Team B picks Kamran Akmal [Keeper 2500 points] - ODI batting ave 26 SR 84 + 500 points for the wk. Couple of great picks there first up. Kamran Akmal is also out of the game now for everyone else.

Now that team B is done it moves on to team C

Team C picks Shane Watson [All-rounder 7500 points] - ODI batting ave 40.5 SR 90.4 + ODI bowling ave 31.8 Eco rate 4.95. Now Watson is also out of the game. Sad face.

Now that the first round is done it moves on to round two so team C gets another pick [snake draft - draft order reverses at the end of each round]

    C
    B
    A

So after team C makes it's pick it moves on to team B and so on until all 11 rounds are completed.

According to chow's cool calculator watch 8 is 4 less than 12 and 10 is 2 less than 12. Hmmmm interesting. I reckon this calls for another one of those polls.

You can have all the shut eye you want once the draft is over champ. I promise you that. Until then do not forget the first rule of drafting. The draft always comes first. The car catches on fire and your turn is up. First make your pick and only then try to put the fire out (word of advice contrary to popular belief you can’t actually fight fire with fire it just makes it worse). Bae/missus wants you to come upstairs for a surprise but you find out that it’s your turn. Make that pick asap and only then run all up in there. If it’s the angry voice tho then you are probably better off taking your time and making that pick count.

    Example round

In case all this is confusing for those who are new to international asian drafts this is how a round of picks will work:

Round 1 order [there will be 11 ordered rounds - teams get to bid on spots starting 15:00 GMT today]

    A
    B

Following on from above you have to be here 24/7 refreshing the draft thread every five mins until all eleven rounds are done. That’s the sort of commitment the Asian International Drafting Council expects out of it’s drafters @QalandarFan. Just a heads-up we have secretly bugged your phone, lappytop and the toaster so there’s no fooling us. We know where you are, what you are doing and how you like your toast in the morning. No joke. Drafting is serious business. It's where boys become men and men become asian superstars. Just ask @SL_Fan.
