Fresh off the boat Desi professors and instructors annoy me so much, they need to learn how to respect adults no matter how young they are/appear. This ain't South Asia, you can't treat a bunch of college aged people as school kids, I ain't paying a thousand bucks per course just to kiss up to somebody's fragile ego! Never had a problem with any of the white, Asian or black professors but the desis (actually only Indians) always have to complicate stuff.

    /End Rant.

You can get it into most state colleges with As and Bs, just make sure you get a decent SAT/ACT score and some extracurricular on your application. You shouldn't have any issues.

too late for that, maybe I'll have to go for a gap year to 'make my CV great again' lol...due to some personal reasons I wasn't able to do all of the extracurricular activities.

The accent isn't the problem bruh, it's the egotistical and angry-at-life attitude a lot of them have.

Joined a cricket academy today for the first time.
Bowled a beamer 3rd ball like an idiot
Bowled well the rest of the time though. The coaches kept saying I was a good bowler

Didn't get anyone out though, bowled a bit too wide, need to hit the stumps.
Got to bat as well. Got out like 3 times in like 20 balls though
    Batting is not my strength

i am shifting that discussion over here

the moderation on this forum is excellent and it has kept the forum so clean. i really get nauseated at times in some other social outlets just by the volume of abuse and irrelevance that people spew out

this also reminds me, did you have any other interaction with that paranormal being or has it been all clean for you?

Alhamdulliah Brother I've been well ever since, although the incident shook me pretty bad and sometimes I avoid walking alone during the evenings but I believe life must go on and all I can do is repent and make Dua for the forgiveness of my sins and other things.

I did however, move from that area (My parents and other buzurgh advised me to do so) and I am currently living in a much more populated section of the city. My previous place was in between a residential plot of land where the houses and condominium were a certain distance apart while during the evenings it would get really quite and dark plus the commercial section needed a 10 minute drive from my apartment.

Since I don't drive, and I am a bachelor my lifestyle especially during weekends was of being outside until quite late and even though the incident happened when I was walking back home after work I felt that taking another chance like that isn't worth it so I moved to the city center.

Let's just hope everything remains fine for the upcoming days

On topic to 'that' story, I have necessarily moved on and living my life to the fullest Alhamdulliah.

It was a phase and it passed - I have moved on !!

@Yossarian Is it a bit weird for a driving instructor to ask you your ethnicity while filling out other information on his spreadsheet such as your address, contact details etc? I said to the guy British and then he would say to me "what are you you really? I go Pakistani and Jamaican are me ethnic origin if that's what you meant, he was like oh right! I've been to Karachi and Lahore, my reply was, I haven't!

I think we've all come across similar. Even from other Pakistanis. How often have you heard of, even 2nd, 3rd, or sometimes 4th generation British citizens of Pakistani origin being asked, by other Pakistanis, "So what part of Pakistan are you from"? Especially if their parents, grandparents, or great grandparents came from different parts of Pakistan?

When I go to France, I have to explain that I'm not an Arab. Similarly, in Germany, I'm not Turkish. And when living in the States, myself, my wife and kids were often being assumed as being Cubans or South Americans - funnily enough, no one asked if we were Indians/Pakistanis! They had a shock when we replied, with an English accent, that we were from England!

This conversation I had with him was over the phone so he didn't have an idea of what I looked like but me name may have sounded a bit dodgy it probably is a standard check he does though, there is also a new law in place where lanlords have to ensure their tenants are British and provide the necessary paper work.

Lol that happens a lot, "are you from dadyal" That is so true! am not as well travelled as you but beyond Brum there have been folk who do not have much of a clue, Cubans and South Americans aha not heard of that one before, Mexican must be popular? you must get that right I have many times

My surname, when spoken quickly with an English accent can sound similar to one particular, reasonable common, English surname, especially to a Frenchman or German citizen based in Europe who's not used to different English accents.

It was not uncommon for me to have phone conversations with one of our European colleagues, and then see the shock on their face when they met me in person.

No! I haven't given in...yet! haha, right now it's about 8 inches long from the front. Longest strand just about hits the bottom of lower lip. Sides are about 4 1/2- 5 inches in length. I'm trying to grow a proper man bun, no douchey top knot with an undercut, so I'd say another year till I can get my whole head of hair in to a bun. Will definitely post a pic when/if I do go through with it. Who knows, I may just wake up tomorrow fed up of all this hair and decide to get a hair cut, because, man is it hard work to try and maintain long hair.

Why do I feel short when I'm 5'11? Maybe I'm just insecure, but I want to be taller, like 6'1, but I'm turning 21 in a couple of months, so that's it for me...

I'm 5'10 so you're still taller than me. There's a friend of mine who's 6'6 and still growing. Baffles my mind not that I'm jealous of him or anything.

In uni the white and blacks are typically at 6 or higher however there are plenty of desis and chinese to bring the average down

I'm actually very bitter, I just keep it bottled up. Maybe that is what patience really is?

Certain truths do dawn on you as you age. That time is short, that not everything is a priority, that you need certain coping mechanisms, and that we waste our youth mulling and raging and ranting over what really are trivialities.

Planning to go for my G in about two months or so. All of my friends who have it have failed on their first try and also my dad had to do the test twice. Just thinking about doing the test makes me quite nervous.

I got my G2 on the first try but I was constantly driving with my dad everyday on the highway for about good 40-45 minutes. Let's see how this one goes although I'm not too hopeful of my chances as I have to solely rely on myself for preparation etc.

Will probably go to Orangeville for doing it as it's relatively a lot easier there.

@Syed1 Do you mind sharing your experience?

I failed my G2 test on the first try because I failed to completely stop on red light before turning right (you know how you are allowed to turn right on red if there is no incoming traffic, but to do so you have to come to a complete spot first)

The second time I did my G2 I passed with flying colors. Alhumdulilah.

Then I bought a car and was driving it everyday for two years, and had taken it on long road trips as well. I think I clocked somewhere like 60k or even more over those two years. So by this point driving was a breeze for me.

I figured I should give my G test since it impacts your car insurance.

I signed up to the location in Etobichoke since it was the only one near where I live that was open on a Saturday. My instructor was a really laid back Middle Eastern guy.

We set off and he realized that I was fairly confident so he and I began to make small talk. He took me around to residential areas first and a school zone and then we went onto the highway but it was only for about 2km since we took the very next exit. On the highway he asked me to change lanes a couple of times. That's about it.

On the way back to the test center he asked me to turn right and it was a red light but by this point I was really chilled out and it was as if I was driving around a friend so I slowed down at the intersection, saw nobody was coming, and then turned right without stopping completely (old habits die hard). Immediately he flagged it like "Syed you gotta come to a full stop on red, that is a serious offense". I thought "dammit I blew this".

So we reached the test center, he made me do a couple of parking maneuvers and then asked me to stop at a designated point. That is when I was waiting for the bad news that he had failed me, but to my surprise the instructor goes "You have driven very well and I found no mistakes apart from that one red light one, I'm willing to let that one go but you have to be mindful of it and if a cop catches you it is a $400 ticket"

So that sums up my experience.

I wish you good luck for your exam, but personally you shouldn't rush into giving a G test because the testing is stricter than G2 and they usually fail you if you seem an under confident driver to them. Good to have a couple of years of driving experience under your belt before attempting it. However, there is no hard and fast rule. Even if you fail God forbid then it will be a good learning experience and you would be substantially less tense in the second attempt.

Agh, that makes sense. I'm aware of the fact that they fail you for minor offences. I was eligible for this three months ago so yeah I'm not trying to rush. I agree with you that it's better to take your time rather than go straight right in.

When I passed my written test, I got some lessons and my instructor was some Pakistani bearded guy (maulana type) who would start shouting instead of actually explaining what I was doing wrong. After getting three lessons from him I realized it just wasn't worth it persisting with him so I started driving with my dad afterwards.

Initially I couldn't keep my car in centre of the lane so my dad also got angry at times but that was the only mistake I was making and eventually fixed that as I started driving more.
