AFM's All-Time Test WC Draft + ICC 13 [Winner: Convict]

Inspired by the PSL draft being run by @SL_Fan, I have decided to run a fantasy World Cup. Posters who decide to participate will select their team in a draft format, after which I will simulate matches using 'International Cricket Captain 2013' in a WC format to determine the winner.

    Rules:

    1. The format will be Tests.
    2. 10 teams will participate. They will be split in to 2 groups. The top 2 teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals.
    3. 3 points for a win; 2 points for a tie; 1 point for a draw.
    4. In case of equal points after the group stage, a play-off match will be played.
    5. Teams must have at least one player from each Test playing nation. Which is why Rounds will be split into countries (explained later).

No player which debuted after 2013 in either FC, List A or T20 is available. If they were active in domestic cricket in 2013 or before, but did not have an international debut, or are yet to debut, are avalaible. For e.g. - Sadaf Hussain is an eligible selection.

Except that criteria, every player from the history of the game is avalaible for selection. Including ATG's like Wasim, Bradman, Sobers etc. Keep in mind that the game only has data up until 2013. That means players like Root and Stokes will only be as good as they were up until that point.

    How it will run

    1. As mentioned above, thede will be one round for each country, and I'll outline the order of those below. You can select players who have played for that particular country in that round.

    2. Bangladesh and Zimbabwe get paired because of limited number of quality players from those countries.

    3. The drafting order will be randomly determinevery 2 rounds. It's every 2 rounds because the order will reverse for the 2nd round. So the order for the 2 rounds would be: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 then 7,6,5,4,3,2,1. Then we change your number for the next 2 rounds.

Order of the Rounds (consider this carefully to plan for your team)

    Round 1: Pakistan
    Round 2: New Zealand
    Round 3: Sri Lanka
    Round 4: Australia
    Round 5: Bangladesh / Zimbabwe
    Round 6: India
    Round 7: England
    Round 8: South Africa
    Round 9: West Indies
Round 10: Free (free to choose any player not selected already)
Round 11: Free (free to choose any player not selected already)

I am looking for 10 players. I will not participate to ensure the results are impartial.

    This is only for fun

    AFM's Test World Cup 2016

Here we go then. First, I will outline the process.

    Process

    1. Draft.
The teams will be selected in the order explained below. You will have a 4 hour window to make your pick. If you miss it, you can pick whenever you are back online. The full order is explained below. Please consider it carefully when planning for your side.

Also note the matches will be played across a variety of surfaces and conditions. I cannot predict these, but anywhere from raging bunsens to green seamers to highways. So try to compose your team to be versatile as possible.

    2. Rank / Warm- ups.
Once the teams have been selected, I will ask you all to rank the teams to what you perceive to be the stongest to the weakest. This will be in order to determine a hypothetical ranking for each team. Those rankings will be used to split the teams into the 2 groups for the 'Group Stage' of the WC.

At the same time, I will be running warm up matches in which your teams will play against either a county or a sheffield state side. The reason for this is for me to test everything is running as it should.

It will also give you an insight to the potential performances of your players. Which brings me to the next stage.

    3. Last minute substitutions.
This will be a chance for you to make any substitutions if you require after seeing the performance in the warm-up. You can make as many as you want, but a player replaced must be from the same country. In this competition, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe are considered one.

    4. The World Cup.

Using the rankings from Step 2, I will split the teams into 2 groups. Rank 1,4,6,7,10 will be in Group A. Rank 2,3,5,8,9 will be in Group B. Each teams will play against every other team in the respective group once.

    3 points for a win
2 points in case of a tie
    1 point for a draw

The top 2 teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals. In case of equal points, a play-off will be played.

    The Draft Rounds

The Draft order was determined using a random generator for Rounds 1,3,5,7,9,11. Rounds 2,4,6,8,10 are the reverse of the previous corresponding round.

In each round, only players from that country are available for selection.

Thanks. I don't have much experience in running drafts, so what would be an appropriate time limit for each pick.

And welcome to you three. Need seven more players, and we can begin

If you want the draft finished in a couple of weeks time maybe 3/4 hrs?

Skipped teams should be allowed to make their missed pick/s whenever they come online so should work out fine me thinks.

Btw @AFM bhai how icc'13 play like. I mean in real heroes (used in PCL) 2 wickets will fell early irrespective of batsman quality, so we're used to open with talisman.

That is not the case here. It is a very realistic simulation game.

What does it take into account? FC career or Test career? Any other attributes?

Test career for sure. The players have a batting attribute, bowling attribute, and a fielding / keeping attribute. The players attributes seem appropriate to me from what I've seen. It's just not the batting/bowling average that is taken into account, but also historical perspective. The developers themselves have given attributes to the players.

The batsmen also have a playstyle attributed to them. For eg, you will notice a difference between the scoring rate of Sehwag and Boycott. That's not to say one is better than the other, but the game will take all those factors into account.

You are correct. It seems I have made a copy and paste error somehow as Rounds 6 and 8 are exactly the same. Can one of the mods please edit the post and correct Round 8? It should be the reverse of Round 7.

On that note, can you all check the Rounds order and clarify if it's ok. I've tried to make it as fair as possible, but if there are any grievances, I will try my best to resolve them.

9th pick in both open rounds is a handicap though.

It's something you can potentially argue for New Zealand as well. I've tried to balance it with the way countries are paired - e.g. Whoever gets the last pick from Bang / Zim gets first choice from Australia.

This is a World Cup, and I do want representation from all Test playing nations.

Yeah I have a favourable draw, not complaining. But I have 4 9th picks and 2 10th picks too. And there is no compensation for the late pick in 11th round. But as I said, I am ok with it, not complaining.
