    Technical Question regarding bowling

Dear friends - Back in the day (may be 10 years ago) I used to be a decent fast bowler (yeah i know it is an oxymoron for an Indian), took a couple of hattricks in college and all. These days I just play occasional leather ball and mostly hard tennis ball. I am working on getting fitter (which is a challenge). My pace has obviously dropped. I rely mostly on cutters and slower balls. I have one question regarding a niggle and I know it is due to my lack of fitness.

When i bowl, after an over or 2, the side of hip starts paining. Could be a muscle pull. If i rest up and try and bowl the next game, it is almost impossible to gather at the popping crease resulting in further reduction in pace.

Any advice what sort of exercise should be done to ensure i dont get that pain on my side?

    Thanks in advance

Can't say much without watching you bowl or knowing your fitness levels. Firstly, don't bowl again until you've completely healed. Loosen your body with dynamic stretches(and bands if possible) for a good 10 minutes before bowling. My guess is that you've bowled with a stiff body or have weakened abductors and tried to overstretch to extract pace. It's also likely, you're falling to the side in your action. If the hip pain continues, consult with your doctor. It could be more than just a pulled muscle.

If it's the hip is the same side as your bowling arm, and it's muscle pain, it can be because your bowling arm is basically going the other way, what should be about 12 o clock, maybe a 2 for a round arm action, is an 11 meaning it's basically where your head would be when standing normally. That could be why you're losing pace as well.

Thanks for the insight. Even i have a feeling, the above could be the reason. Planning to bowl this season only after gaining full fitness.

No, it is on the opposite side of my bowling arm. As CD said above, it could be due to the fact that i am falling over. My upper body is actually heavier. Need to work on my fitness. Am planning to start a program now and hope to be fit by the summer. Cheers
