    Marcus Stoinis - Australian all-rounder

Took Australia from 6/67 to 280 chasing 287. Incredible. Unfortunate to fall short because of Hazlewood and Starc's stupidity.

One of the all time great ODI innings.

This was a Bevanesque bit of match saving.

He was in absolute control. Not even Kohli has controlled a chase so absolutely. This guy was commanding established players and telling them to sit their butts down quietly on the other end. He shepherded the tail beautifully....then Hazlewood blows it.

    And Starc too.

Added 84 runs for the last 2 wickets in 6 overs!!

Starc faced 3 balls out of those and Hazlewood none.

Stoinis looks like a tail ender each time he comes out to bat for Victoria.

This innings is a mere miracle.

Don't expect such an innings from a player of his calibre again.

This is what's called ability to soak up pressure.

    Amazing knock.

I was blown away by his innings checking the commentary on cricinfo. ATG knock no doubt.

Very similar to this knock by Bevan where he almost chased down an impossible total and the game would have been tied if only the other bat had the basic sense to ground his bat after reaching the crease.

Total garbage that will never fire like that lucky knock again.
One of the worst bits and pieces players that is lucky to get selected.
Expect only NZ would let him get this type of performance.

Wow! Never got a chance to watch a lot of Bevan, but after watching that I understand why he is considered the greatest chaser of all time.

Stonis played a truly masterful knock. The last partnership was of 50 runs with Hazelwood having played 0 balls. That is a perfect chase. In the end he was let down by Starc and Hazelwood.

That was one of the rare knocks where he scored super fast.

But he was an absolute beast in ODIs. No matter where he played or against who he played, he scored. Getting him out was a huge project in itself.

Batted in 4 WC knockout games and played 2 iconic knocks.

No other player gave me the dread that Bevan used to give. Torture at its best as he slowly but surely took the game away from you.

Today Stonis was playing an absolute blinder but sadly Hazlewood choked just like Donald did.

Did not watch the match but it validates the impression that both NZ and Aus are an ordinary team more so in tests than in ODI's, where a couple of heave ho's in small grounds make for an interesting viewing nothing more than that.

TBH this was a glorified exhibition match. The players were not even trying hard. These kinds of matches ,the organisers want it to be close. As much as I rate Bevan ,I don't rate this knock.

When Australia were around 100/6 and the required run rate was flirting with 9 I thought to myself "I think they will get close somewhere around 260 because this is Australia they never give up". On that thought, I hit the hay and when I woke up MY GOD they nearly pulled it off. Amazing display off never-say-die attitude.

To those who didn't watch it live...

What the scorecard doesn't show is Stoini's body language. This guy was pumped and intense. He looked in total control, believed completely in a win, looked like he had everything figured out, and was so confident in his big hitting abilities, he was turning down easy singles just to protect the batsmen on the other end.

Once he crossed 60, the guy looked invincible and full of belief.
