In the past their were a lot of ordinary sides, when Bangladesh debuted in the test arena it was arguably the best era for cricket. Barring Zimbabwe, all teams were ridiculously good in the test format more or less.

You also have to factor in that when Bangladesh wanted to focus on Tests, ICC introduced T20Is and that made it more difficult for us to improve in tests. It was not that we had to improve one thing at a time. We had to improve 3 things at a time!

We had to improve in T20s because there were T20 leagues and T20 world cup every 2 years!
We had to do well in ODIs because that is the most popular format and also is the format of the true world cup, not to mention champions trophy
We had to improve in Tests, because its the format which is most valued by pundits and cricket boards

When other teams started, they had 1-2 formats to focus on, when its 3 formats to improve on simultaneously it becomes much more difficult. Bangladesh has improved over the years more faster than one feels. Yes it was not the swiftest but it was not painstakingly slow. Infact we just had our first FC league around 2001-2
Dude, accept honest facts. don't live in a denial and be deluded.

Its not as if Bangladesh set the ODI's on fire. 90% of the time I hear Bangladesh fans yapping about how it took India 20years to win the first test match, forgetting it was India's 24 th test (less than Bangladesh), 15 years under British rule, and 10 damn years of no cricket.

AND India was the only minnow side at that time. Bangladesh had the luxury of playing and growing through the associate teams format and refine itself for long long time. Played against minnows like Zimbabwe, Canada, Kenya at ODI levels to boost up their own stats for quite some time.

You guys are utterly deluded when you just mock and mock others and then make up vague arbitrary excuses with no basis.

FYI: BCCI had to organise a Lata Mangeshkar concert to give reward to 1983 World Cup winning team. That was the state of Indian cricket 60 years after it started playing. Amount of funding Bangladesh had received in 10 years would be several times the total funds BCCI or any other board got in whole of 20th century.

Because they know jack about batting in test cricket. I am not even hating, this is a neutral observation. However I would assume is that they're trying to reduce the margin of loss before losing all wickets. Since they can't save a match, better score quick runs.

That would be one explanation. The other would be that they believe they can intimidate the bowlers and destroy their morale by attacking them. However bowlers like Jadeja and Ashwin are not going to lose confidence just because a few fours and sixes were hit off them.

The amount of baseless criticism Saha gets is quite incredible, maybe the most of all Indian players. Not only his keeping but also his batting is the best of all contenders from India after Dhoni. Guy was also the first one to score a century in an IPL final.

I don't believe they have that much mental fortitude to envision a win from this stage. Their aggressive approach is possibly a cover to their frail mindset. However it's still better than blocking and getting out cheaply. BDesh will likely be satisfied to stretch the match to 5 days. However they would have to thank India who batted for 2 days, on a rank turner this match would be over in 3 days.

Are you being serious? We will beat them handsomely, perhaps the worst losses for any team in recent memory, my only fear is the losses we will incur if all the test matches get over by day 3. Then, there would be calls for a 4 day test and what not.

He stepped out about a dozen times against the spinners. Any one of those balls could have had a similar result. So the "stupid shot" was pretty consistent with the rest of his innings.

Stepping out against spinners is not a bad thing. Sometimes its a very good way to play spin.

His execution was wrong when he wasn't there to the pitch of the ball.

Mushfiqur's game against spin has been top notch in this test.

As I write, Ishant has picked 2 wickets.

He blows hot or cold which is the isssue.

His wicket taking ability in Asia has been poor of late.

Even overseas, he will take a 5fer and then go for a lot of runs in the other innings.

In zone, he is a very good bowler.

And in seam friendly pitches, he is excellent.

Exactly. When he's in form he's an exciting bowler to watch.

I became a big fan of Ishant when I saw his bowling againist Australia in Australia. But sadly he drastically faded away after that series.

Indian management made a mistake by introducing him to ODI cricket.

Umpire's soft signal was out for caught or lbw or both?

Hypothetical situation - What happens if umpire gave soft signal for caught as out but there is no bat and the ball clips the stumps (umpire's call).

In that case, is it out or not out?

Bangladesh got moral victory! Such great progression in their growth with so minimum exposure to International Cricket and such less facilities and infrastructure! Kudos to them!

    What moral victory for Bangladesh?

Am I in some parallel universe?

This was a great game for Mushfiq, Shakib, Mehdi (batting temperament)...that's all.

Apart from that Bangladesh as a team were woeful. Gave 800 runs at 4 rpo picking 10 wickets and didn't fight well enough for a draw too.

This pitch is a pancake from hell. Batsmen can go and sip a cup of chai and then come back to play the ball. So much time.

Bangladeshi batting seems fine, but their bowling is not Test quality. On merit, they didn't even deserve the 10 wickets they got in the match.

Frankly if i were a bangladesh fan i would be disappointed, yes most expected bangladesh to be beaten in 3 days, but once the pitch turned out to be a patta, you should have got a draw, this is the fifth day and beyond a bit of extra bouce against left handers and a bit of reverse there is nothing to trouble the batsman.

Your best batsman gets out trying to smash ashwin when you are trying to save the game and not lose wickets cheaply, heck if half of your team could bat with patience the tail ender rabbi showed in 2nd innings this a draw with no chance of victory.

Also this should be a lesson to kohli and kumble, pitches like the ones against England or one currently on display will quickly end india's so called winning streak, not to mention this will kill any rising interest in test cricket as no one likes watching teams scoring 600 and 400 at 3 rpo to play out draws.

One thing I will admit...this was a tough track on Day 5 for lefties due to the rough and a left armer.

Apart from that, its a jolly good pitch and righties in Bangladesh should have batted better.

Batting clearly has ability but needs temperament.

    Bowling needs work.

I can see this team being a force in Asia within 5 years.

As crazy as it may sound, they were the ones who really understood the pitch.

All you need to do is get behind the line of the ball and tap it down. Your tail did that very well. I was very impressed by their approach against spinners.

Kamrul needn't have gone for that shot. Mehdi can't be blamed for that delivery by Jaddu. Anyone could have nicked that.

Good test but played along expected lines, maybe them batting first could had made it a little more interesting but then thought the same about England nd they were woeful.

    That's ridiculous if true.

How can umpire's call be taken as not out when he hasn't made the call for lbw?

It would've made a lot lot difference. One of the first thing that touring team needs to do to do well in India is win the toss.

England couldn't manage to do much after winning all the tosses in the previous series. But that doesn't change the face that If the touring team wants to do well against India in india they have to win the toss first and foremost.

Oh I meant Taijul only. Kamrul was not out.

Got confused with all the names. All look similar. haha.

Actually I will tell you why Taijul went for that shot.

Jaddu was firing it in from around the stumps. Normally, that can be played out cos this pitch is hopeless beyond measure but issue was that there was a rough in there which made the odd ball spit up dangerously (Shakib got out to one such delivery). So either you have to drop your bat down and take the blow in your body and go for the shot. Taijul previously got one shortish delivery in rough spit up and hit his body missing his hanging bat & gloves. The next time he got it, he tried to play the cross batted shot which is actually a way to safeguard your wicket for that delivery.

He executed it wrongly but can't blame him for the shot considering what happened before. Better option would have been to lower the bat and take the body blow but that would be a very harsh thing to ask a tailender to do.

That attitude is not going to help any team, ofcourse playing 4th innings in any country is hard dont think in Uae,Bangladesh it would be any easier,if one loses hope after losing the toss they shouldn't be playing test cricket.

Also even if Bangladesh batted first they still had to take 20 wickets, they only managed half of that in this test.

Not sure if they have same plans, I think this is helping Indian batting (including Kohli who had some discomforts with Test matches compared to his great LOI command) after all the Fab-5 departed and we were going nowhere! Pitches like last South Africa Series was demoralizing even our batsmen (I know they have to bring some balance between these two extremes) Our batsmen need these confidence before they are put into tough overseas tours! I think they should change this plan for the next series (Australia) a bit, because what you said (boring draws) could be encountered in that series with both teams piling runs! Fortunately the current International teams are not that good enough to reverse the case (beating India on these pitches with out-bating & better bowling)!

The best pacers of all time prove themselves in the flattest of tracks.

    Ishant has done it.

Could have even had a 5fer if we had a review, Vijay had taken the catch and Kohli had given him more overs.
