We don't have old Ashwin but yes at this stage, I will take 150 run lead cos you never know when our lineup will collapse.

But if we apply, we can score 200 more.

    250 would be ideal.

That was out to haters who love ** decisions favouring specific teams like Aus from the notorious Nigel Long.
When it's so marginal like that benefit of the doubt should always go to the batsmen.

I have no sympathy. Not the least for a guy like Kohli. India has benefitted from plenty of such decisions against Bangladesh over the years so I don't mind.

Cos DRS is supposed to right the wrong.

Not legitimize the wrong by using complicated rules.

This is like using advanced techniques to find a solution to a problem and still get the wrong answer.

Hazlewood to Jadeja, OUT, that seam does it for Hazlewood. Full, draws a drive, the ball seams back in, and hits the middle of middle. Not a pitch to be driving on. Promoting Jadeja was a good move, but he didn't play well. Australia, I think, didn't play a single drive against the quicks

    pathetic pitch.

Quick, hostile, left-armer, but erratic and expensive.

It's a brilliant pitch, and Australia have to bat last on it.

If India knuckle down and stop driving, any score over 200 all out can be defended. India are still favourites.

Please don't blame the pitch. India has been exposed pretty badly here. Australia deserves the credit for that not the pitch.

You are right. Some fans are blaming the pitch here as an excuse but these same guys didn't give credit to those pitches where India was winning easily. Hypocrisy at its best.

    According to rules, no.

But then, the rules are brain dead.

DRs doesn't have to be perfect to realize that umpire's call system aspect needs to be looked at. When umpire's calls can over-rule inconclusive evidence, then something is terribly wrong.

Pitch can't have variable bounce on day 1 and 2.

In that sense, its a bad pitch.

But that doesn't mean its a pitch where you should get all out for 200. You can score 300 here if you apply.

Bad pitch does not automatically mean super low scoring.

Unfortunate but true! Probably he (his batting) should have been tested immediately after those domestic records! Probably he would have learnt batting (at top level) then! But since he got success with ball (Test) and with his bits-and-piece job (in LOIs), he is in the team and gets a chance to bat like this so that we feel amused about those stats (3 tons). If not for his bowling & fielding, he would have dropped and forgotten by now!

Anyhow his batting comes in handy in LOIs (ODIs at least), he has some numbers to show.

But this was not a good move to send him ahead of regular batsmen on tough pitch! If they had so less confidence about Rahane, they could have dropped him (I mean he should get dropped in next selection if he fails again now)!

Good innings so far by Pujara! If he gets a ton definitely India will win and the team-morale will be high! But 200 is the minimum I guess. Because Australian bowlers seems to have learnt these pitches more than Indian counterparts (Same applies to the batsmen).

You got to be little positive about India. At least there is 30:70 chances in favor of India. India did bowl well in this match and if they apply in the same way (including their seamers), they have a chance to defend 200 on this pitch! Pujara is the key, if Rahane supports him well that can lift the team's morale! Let's see!

But it looks too difficult to bat now! It will be really a great job if India manage to get a lead of 200. They need to do this tough job now to compensate for all the ordinary stuff they did in this series so far! Australia with their confidence can chase down up to 150 easily (If this Australian team was beaten in the 1st match as expected before the start of the tour, I would have been conformable even with 100, but now this team is really confident)

Australia can still work out a plan for 150/170 scores! They have played good tactical cricket on this tour so far! 200 is the mark where we can feel 50:50. 300+ is the only score where we can be 100% sure! The confidence of this Australian team is so high!

Pujara is the key, if Rahane supports him well that can lift the team's morale! Let's see!
    I am positive.

Do you see me saying we will lose for sure?

But lead with 150 is too hopeful territory.

200 is a good chance to defend.

By the way, all it takes is a couple of silly mistakes for everything to derail. So that's there too.

Yeah pacers are not bowling to the stumps. That will make a lot of difference in 3rd and 4th innings.

The pitch will be tougher tomorrow, this could well be a similar test to Pak v Eng at Abu Dhabi in 2012!

    Certainly the similarities are there.

    Looking difficult?

    Rahul looked comfortable.

    Kohli looked comfortable.

Scratchy Pujara is no longer scratchy.

And all this facing Lyon who is bowling the best of all bowlers in this test.

Need 200-250 for that reason. Even then it will be close.

I mean Lyon is still a huge threat but I am afraid Ash ain't gonna replicate that quality of bowling here.

So gotta adjust for that too.

Nah I don't think Aus will be able to chase 200 on day 4 on this pitch. Every run will be a struggle

Yes cos pressure is a component.

    But it will be close.

Only one of our 2 spinners are operating at full tilt.

Someone like Hazelwood enjoying success because he has the patience to stick to a line and length on and around off stump.

Indian bowlers don't have same discpline, apart from Jadeja. Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav and even Ashwin do too many things to try and get wickets. With Ishant and Umesh, they are just erratic by nature.

Ashwin's biggest problem is that he is too clever for his own good. Trying to out think batsmen every ball. On pitches like this and Pune, you just have to be pateint and let the pitch do the rest. Stay tight, and eventually natural variation from the pitch will get the batsmen in trouble.

Becuase of this, dont think it will be too difficult in the 4th innings for Australia. Pitch is not wearing and turning big. Its just a question of some uneven bounce at the moment, and a little slow to come on. Unless there a big signs of wear and tear tomorrow, still have Australia as favourites. India don't seem capable of getting more than a 150 lead - 66 atm, with 4 down.

Yes, the problem is they can leak the runs for this same reason as you mentioned, and hence 150 becomes within reach! Kumble was still the best on Indian pitches, because he used to get angry at himself even when he went for runs!

Jadeja alone can tear through Aussie line up. Just need to make sure others don't leak runs. India doesn't need to depend on Ashwin to win this match

That would mean that both Pujara & Rahane redeemed themselves strongly (for all their experience & skills they possessed & reputation) on such a pitch against such a confident team! This alone will lift the Indian team to win this match (and also series!)

Jadeja vs Ashwin since the beginning of England series

    Jadeja
    Innings- 15
    Wickets- 43
    Average- 23.76

    Ashwin
    Innings- 15
    Wickets- 43
    Average- 29.86

Jadeja has been as much important to India's home success as Ashwin and Kohli. He's quite underrated despite such performance.

Australia needs to bundle India within first two sessions tomorrow, otherwise they will lose this match. Despite the crazy dismissals Indians are still more experience on this kind of pitch in these situations. Australia's batting isn't as good as their bowling.
