    Bangladesh (467 & 191/6) beat Sri Lanka (338 & 319) by 4 wickets to win 2nd Test (100th Test for BD)

Bangladesh are playing their 100th Test match, and Sri Lanka have won the toss and elected to bat first.

They started the Test in mid week

But the last 2 days are in week end & we should be chasing a target in 4th innings

Still, it's the 100th Test, first of many such to come

No pace? He has bowled several deliveries in the 142-144 mark.

And swing is difficult to extract in the subcontinent.

The issue is everybody comments without watching the match. Fizz has created a lot of edges that has gone to/through gully/slips

Srilankan batting is gradually going into same direction of WI & BD - if you stop them scoring freely, wickets go down. Only reason is that like the other two, they have started to focus more on LO cricket & their FC cricket has gone down. If we can keep 6-7 tight overs right after lunch, couple more should go down.

At the end of the day nobody cares how much edges went through the slips, it's about having an impact on the game. If you watched Amir on the Australia tour would you say he bowled brilliantly because he beat the bat on multiple ocassions?

That's great news. I was really worried he would be a different bowler after all these injuries and pressure. However, what were his faster deliveries? Is he still capable of hitting maybe 144?

I saw him clock 143kph last match and some people in some forums said he clocked 144.

Best part is that he looks to be in rhythm no real discomfort. Bowled plenty of overs today.

Whether he can maintain such a pace needs to be seen in the future. For now BCB needs to manage him well.

Definitely. To be honest with you, at his age and given his fragile physique, Bangladesh is sort of playing a huge gamble by including him in both tests. Boards like South Africa can afford playing Rabada in all matches. Boards like Australia can afford bringing back Cummins all of a sudden. They have so many fast bowlers in their domestic set up that it simple does not matter to them.

BCB, on the other hand will have to treat Rahman with a lot of care. Whether you like it or not, I'm sure you agree he's susceptible to injuries at the moment so I'm not sure if he should be playing so many matches on the trot.

However, he needs match practice too and Bangladesh don't play a lot of Tests anyway so its fine. But if I were in the BCB, he wouldn't be playing in the IPL this year.

I don't think IPL or T20s in general is an issue. Frankly bowling 4 overs is barely a big deal. The only issue I have is his diet and his workload in tests and ODIs.

It's difficult to calculate Fizz's average pace as he deliberately bowls so many slower balls. If you were to just consider his regular deliveries then his average would be around mid to high 130s.

250 is modest run in this pitch,300 is very well as per recent history suggest. Bd should try to pack sl under 250-275 else that will be huge task for them at the end. Bd need to get quick 3 wickets tomorrow morning.

That argument can be applied to the shorter formats of the game

But if he indeed is bowling that many slower balls in test cricket then there is an issue.

I feel the pitch isn't too difficult, just that SL openers missed out. Pitch is sluggish.

It's important that the top order does well. Good thing for us no Riad and Mominul who are off form

Good start from Bangladesh. Both Tamim and Soumya threw their wickets away. Both were looking good and should have got bigger scores. But with Mushfiqur, Shakib and Mosaddek still to come Bangladesh need to target 500 here.

What a horror end to the innings. If Bangladesh ended the day 200/3 we would definitely get away with an easy victory. But now we are pegged back.

Shakib and Mushy need to bat well. Mosaddek and miraz need to chip in too.

SRL has won the Test in last 5 overs of day 2. It was possible to post 450+ from 200/2 at the end of day 2 & put pressure on Lankan batting with 125+ lead on day 4 wicket.

Now, I'll be surprised if we can get a lead - maximum that we can chase on day 4/5 wicket is 200; a target of <170 was possible till last 4 overs. In Test, if top 4 gets out for highest 60 & lowest 34; it's impossible to post a large total.

Nothing to hope now. Bangladesh is the one country who's players always finds ways to get out anyhow Only hoping, they can play the whole third day though it seem highly unlikely as sir shakib is playing T20.

    I don't understand bangldesh sometimes.

Why this urgency to give away a strong position Everytime. Don't just get the better of your opposition, drill him to the ground.

Our boys think that being the better side at a moment gives them the right to play as they want. But cricket is a game where you can go from hero to zero in a matter of minutes.

Believe me if our last U-19 batch played instead of senior side we would be performing much better in the test arena in this year

One of the main reason is, the core of this bunch is still coming from shorter version of the game - that's Dhaka League. Quality shot making is not the issue, neither technique - most of these players are technically quite good & stylish in shot making, but they are groomed in a culture where 50 overs league match is the zenith of domestic cricket, instead of 2 innings match, where you need to bat for long.

You'll notice that most of our set batsmen get out within 15-20 minutes of either side of a break - lunch or tea or day end/start. This has been the case in last 6/7 Tests - almost every time, set players failed to close out a session. Main reason is, these players are yet to master the art of focus & refocus in season by session batting, which is far, far tougher than batting out 50 overs at one go. It's actually applicable for bowlers as well, which you'll notice from the runs scored by tail against us regularly from a tight corner. Tail-enders are not technically poor & don't have the patience, but they can hit any loose ball - the key to bowl against tail is discipline to pin them down until patience runs out; in most cases, you'll notice our bowlers do too much experimentation & drains run. That's because of grooming in 50 overs cricket, where you need very short span of concentration & often don't need to work out batsmen to get a wicket. Take Miraj - some of his balls are absolutely gem, almost unplayable for a No. 8 or lower batsman, if he can peg him down for 2/3 overs - often his economy is close to 4, because after 2/3 good balls, he'll loose patience & try to over cook things.

Cricket is learned most in match condition, unlike most other sports, which only an be done in long, long duration FC matches over 2 innings. Once the fundamentals are developed, then you can be Chris Gayle in T20. FC cricket has started to replace League cricket in Bangladesh for last 2/3 years - I am sure in couple of years time many of these players will be able to bat out sessions & bowlers will be able to put 3/4 overs on spot, at a stress without giving a single loose one; those who won't will gradually be filtered out from longer format.

Shakib is still the best all-rounder in the world and he has been so for the last 6 years at a stretch. He has been unmatched.

However as a senior player you need to play with more responsibility. He is a world class player who can walk into many sides with bat/ball alone.

    But with class comes responsibility

Actually 7, that's why I never like the night watch man theory. Ideally, he'll bat at 6, once Liton (WK) comes back & Mushi goes to 4; eventually, in a year or two, he'll bat at 4 or 5. His average is a bit high in FC as well, because of batting lower (6).

It's a personal failure for the players.

But its good that every batsman so far have got starts. Bangladesh is in decent position right now hope these two last till lunch. Heck Miraz can bat too, heck he is a much better batsman than Riad.

The good thing is Shakib looks matured today. A matured Shakib is important.

Just few months adjustment on faster wickets will solve that - he is not 35 years old youngster like Pakistan. He is in the age when players learn quick - in couple of years time, he'll enter the best few years of a batsman with lots of experience at highest level.

Bangladesh has diminished the deficit. They now need at least 100-150 lead to be in commanding position to win the test. With shakib, mosaddek, miraz and others it is possible if the play sincerely.
