Which players do you regret the most for not having watched them play during their time?

I have quite a few player whom I wish could have watched play during my life time. Let me name them -

    1. Garry Sobers (My biggest regret)
    2. Viv Richards
    3. Dennis Lillee
    3. Sunny Gavaskar
    4. Those 4 West Indian legendary bowlers in the 70's and 80's by the names of Holding, Marshall, Garner and Roberts.

Of course there are many more, but these are the players I regret the most of not watching play during their time.

It would be nice to know of other posters who feel the same about other players whom they missed watching during their time.

He was one of the finest bowlers of the 80's. I know a lot of people from my extended family who till this day claim that Imran was an even better bowler than Akram. Just imagine how great of a bowler he was.

Javed Miandad. Always wanted to see him bat. Wanted to see how he played umorthodox shots & witness his running in person.

Viv Richards. Of course I miss him. Nowadays the hook shot has disappeared which he made look so casual. Perefect dream for me would be the sight of fast bowler running in all his pomp & deliver a short pitch to Viv & Viv hooking the ball to midwicket fence.

Sachin of the 90's. I started watching sachin after 2003 world cup. So in a nutshell, I missed his whole prime & that has to be my biggest regret ever. I still love watching his 1996 world cup innings. True master blaster in those days.

I'm a young pakistani living in the USA, however I've always been a cricket fan, but only since the 2015 World Cup have I been intensely following (staying up to date on all matches, following domestic tournaments, engaging in discussion). Before the 2015 world cup, i would just casually watch matches but usually only tournaments like the Champions Trophy or the World Cup, and only matches Pakistan were playing in.

As a result, I missed the days of Mohammad Yousuf, Inzamam ul-Haq, young Afridi, Abdur Razzaq and other relatively modern Pakistan greats. I also wished I could have watched non-Pakistani legends like Ricky Ponting and Sachin Tendulkar (in their later years).

I'm just super glad that I've been able to watch and enjoy Misbah ul-Haq and Younis Khan for these past few years. It would have sucked to have missed their careers

I miss nobody. Having watched cricket from the 90s and been lucky enough to watch the best of Tendulkar and a whole lot of other great cricketers and now Kohli, MSD, ABD etc ... I really think that I have caught the best that cricket has to offer. Especially after youtube became popular and I got to see the Greats from the past ERA's play where they look comical I really don't feel that I have missed anybody ... certainly no regrets.

naturally @Junaids might beg to differ

badly wished, watched a lot more of the great Kapil Dev, king Viv & Michael Holding in action....3 of my all time favourite players.Kapil .... one of the great naturally talented players & all rounders ever, King Viv ... the most brutal batsman of all time, Michael Holding.... still amazed at how smooth & effortless his action was & yet one of the most effective fast bowlers of all time.

I know man ! It would have been an amazing story to tell if I had experienced it. I was never in the same country as him wherever he played and just wasn't able to make it happen. I really hope he continues to do the all star games in the US - that's my only chance now.

Wouldn't you actually want to see the oldies play cricket and make an actual opinion instead of based on a couple of YouTube videos.

I know if I vastly wanted to differ from the crowd's opinion I would want to watch live footage instead of a couple of YouTube videos claiming that this was their standard.

Otherwise you are just being a tad biased.

I have some faded memory of Dennis Lillee & Greg Chappel - at least tv was on & was watching with someone, so won't consider them.

The 3 batsmen that I would have loved to watch at prime are

    1. Rohan Kanhai
    2. Grame Pollock
    3. Neil Hervey

3 bowlers that comes to mind are
    1. Fazal Mahmood
    2. Fred Truman
    3. Wes Hall

    3 All rounders are
    1. Kieth Miller
    2. Gary Sobers
    3. Richie Benaud

Over all 3 cricketers that I would have loved to see at their prime are
    1. Keith Miller
    2. Rohan Kanhai
    3. Sir Garry

I have been to live matches and the atmosphere is something else ... but as far as being able to minutely analyze skills and be able to make critical analysis there is no substitute for video footage.

BTW there is footage of significant length for the 1974/75 Ashes on YT .... it just can't compare with modern cricket. Painfully boring to watch even if I don't know the results.
