If it was any competent board, I would've believed in whatever they're doing.

They've already ruined Sharjeel etc and haven't been able to produce a single proof or convict them.

Though if this nothing cricketer is guilty, should be punished harshly.

What are the PCB playing at?

They are trying to come across as if they are clamping down on fixing, however, you have to be particularly useless if even when doing something so noble you come across as clueless and lost.

I doubt if anything is going to come out of these inquiries and trials. My bet is 6 month bans for not reporting approaches and thats it for most of them. However, judging by how Khalid Latif and Nasir Jamshed are behaving, I sense they will be scapegoated and given lengthy bans. Thats how PCB will look to appear tough while at the same time preserving their assets like Sharjeel Khan.

Spot-fixing scandal: 'Bookies contacted me in Australia,' Nawaz confesses

Pakistani cricketer Muhammad Nawaz pleaded guilty in front of the Anti Corruption Unit (ACU) of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and confessed that bookies contacted him during Australia tour, reported Waqt News.

He did not, however, tell PCB about this contact because of which disciplinary action will be taken against him, reports said.

According to sources, after his confession, disciplinary committee of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will take action against Nawaz.

His case will not be sent to judicial investigation commission as he pleaded already.

While talking to the channel, reporter Hafiz Imran said that it is expected, Nawaz will not face major punishment.

“He is expected to be fined and face ban for short period of time like Muhammad Irfan,” said the reporter.

Lahore May 17, 2017: In furtherance to the PCB’s investigation into violations of the PCB’s Anti-Corruption Code for Participants 2015 (“the Code”), Mohammad Nawaz, Cricketer, was issued a Notice of Charge by the PCB Vigilance and Security Department on 12th May 2017 wherein he was charged with a single violation of Article 2.4.4 of the Code. It was alleged that Nawaz had, on one occasion, failed to disclose to the PCB Vigilance and Security Department (without unnecessary delay) full details of the approaches and invitations received by him to engage in Corrupt Conduct.

On 15th May 2017 Nawaz approached the PCB to initiate proceedings under Article 5.1.12 of the PCB Code and requested for “Agreed Sanction” a meeting to hold discussions. Resultantly, PCB required Nawaz to submit a written statement explaining his version of events; his response to the Notice of Charge; and any mitigating factors that he would like the PCB to consider, and thereafter appear before the PCB Vigilance and Security Department to answer their queries.

Nawaz submitted his written statement admitting the charges leveled against him by PCB and appeared for subsequent meetings with PCB on 16th May 2017 to properly explain his case.

The following “Agreed Sanction” is being imposed on Nawaz:

    i. A period of Ineligibility/suspension of two (02) months has been imposed on Nawaz, (First month suspension has commenced from 16th May 2017): one (01) month of which will be suspended upon fulfillment of the following additional conditions

    a) That there is no further/additional breach of the PCB Code by Nawaz after commencement of the period of Ineligibility; and no previous breach of the PCB Code by MN comes to light. If any such breach(es) take place the PCB shall reserve the right to initiate separate and independent proceedings against Nawaz under the PCB Code;

    b) That Nawaz, over the next six months, participates under the auspices of PCB in programs of Anti-Corruption education, which may include amongst other things, delivering lectures on Anti-Corruption at such places and to such audiences as the PCB Vigilance and Security Department deems fit; and

    c) That Nawaz would pay to the PCB a fine of PKR. 200,000/- (Pakistan Rupees Two Lacs Only).

ii. During the period of Ineligibility as described under Article 5(a)(ii), Nawaz’s central contract executed with PCB shall stand suspended and no new contract shall be offered to him.

This nothing, mediocre of a cricket has already put the country to shame.

And he's as pathetic in cricketing ability as they come!!!

Why is he given such a lenient treatment? I hope he doesn't get selected after the ban, we don't need his mediocrity in the team.

If the common pakistani cared about the country's honour as much as he cares about his family members' honour he would have dragged these cheaters down the street and stoned them like crazy man so the whole world could see. Maybe a blessing for these cheaters. I am not supporting this barbaric behaviour but just putting the things in perspective.

But are the accusations proven true or not after FOUR MONTHS in the court? Sure, Sharjeel could still be arguing a decision made by the judge; But nothing has happened so far. Other than Sethi making some statements, and the players saying stuff to media.

Because creadible aproof wasnt bought forward before to suspend some of thes guys.

Problem is if there is no credible proof and you suspend someone, then pcb itself could get stuck in legal problems.

The PCB needs to understand that these bookies and their agents who contact the players have ties with the underworld and other criminal elements and maybe even higher ups and politicians, the PCB needs to understand that the bookies will only approach a player after knowing almost everything about the player i.e. his plus and negative points, family background, his needs which can be leveraged, i am pretty certain these players and their families, loved ones are threatened with dire consequences if the players inform the authorities.

The PCB needs to provide more autonomy and protection for the players who do snitch on these bookies and fellow players.

One thing I don't understand is, how on earth would the players know that a certain individual is a BOOKIE? It's not written on their forehead. If I am a player and someone starts talking to me, laughing at jokes and stuff. I would indeed talk to him too. But how would I know if he is a bookie?

Simple, when the individual starts talking about offering money in exchange for certain acts like playing dot balls, a maiden bowling a no ball, wide ball, that is the red flag right there.

    really?

Maybe because a regular person will not make a proposition to fix matches and a bookie will.

When you see posters defend anf make laughable excuses for the accusers it becomes quite obvious why corruption is so prevalent in our society.

That's fine. What if someone meets such a person but they haven't had such a conversation yet. What can a player do then?

Where was I defending the players? Are you reading the post carefully or just assuming stuff?

    Nawaz is clean.

Just a dumb mistake on his part of delaying (not neglecting) the reporting of the approach.

Nawaz is banned because he was approached by Nasir.

He is not banned for not reporting an offer by bookie.

Anyways Big Nas is no less than a bookie these days.

Had Big Nas invested his energies in the right direction he would have been an asset for Pak team. Never showed so much crookery on field looked like a "bhola" but he's quite the opposite in real life. I could not have imagined Nasir of all the players was so corrupt.

The guy was arrested for cheating in his exams even before he got into the team, the complete opposite of a bhola.

As per Sharjeel's lawyer, even Umar Amin - PCB's blue-eyed player - by his own confession informed an approach to fix AFTER 48 HOURS. An actual bookie - not Big Nas - the very same bookie (Yusuf) who entrapped Sharjeel and Khalid.

I hope Amin due to his influences within the PCB does not get away with his delayed reporting, since Nawaz was bannedfor exactly that crime

The very definition of "slap on the wrist". I feel there's a lot more cricketers that have done the same, shame that Nawaz only got it.
