Say what you want, but the chacha has the stats.

He scores very heavily in the domestic scene.

I would still give him 3 matches to proce himself

He can’t buy a run against better quality opposition. Forget internationals, he goes missing even in the PSL.

    Rubbish player. Domestic bully

Try him in one format. After asif ali fails this guy will be bought in odi in his position.

In test he should be considered if he does well in this season first class.

Did he get a central contract this tine around?

You are right. Till now what we have seen of him in international he could not score a run. Maybe under pressure.

Even in psl misbah removed him from line up when he didnt perform initially.

But i have seen him play in domestic. Once this guy takes charge then there is no stopping him.

Him and rizwan are the two batsmen that i liked.

Due to him still scoring i would still prefer him if a spot opens up

I am starting to believe in your theory. I mean it has always puzzled me how this guy was selected was so many important series, surely the team management, coach and captain are not stupid to be selecting a player who is not capable.
May be Ifti needs to be picked for A games, and then from there lets see how he goes. We only have one striker in Asif Ali. We can easily have two and the second one can be Ifti.

When i saw him how he batted at isb united i was quite annoyed.

But when i see him play other domestic games and the way he scores at that scoring rate, then it really does leave one confused.

    No.

His everlasting glory in International Cricket is an LBW wicket of James Anderson.

He is by no means 28 and a proven domestic bully.

Regain sense and push for younger talent that has led you to success in the last two years or so.

    Where would he fit in?

Malik’s spot is the obvious answer, but unless he has a disaster Malik will be playing in the 2019 WC, he is the Captain, coach , team and media’s favourite and has been decent overall.

After the WC I’d hope other younger players have emerged

Pakistan isn't exactly brimming with batting talent. Salahuddin is one our best prospects, he averages 47 in FC and deserves a run in the national team. No need to make judgments about his batting when he has only played one test match and that too in one of the most difficult countries to make your test debut

One match is enough to figure out that he's not good enough. Will be a sitting duck on bouncy pitches, and not a dynamic enough batsman. Any good bastman from our domestics can score in UAE so we don't need him there.

This dynamic batsman argument is getting tiring. There are far less dynamic batsmen than him in world cricket who are successful. Best example is Elgar, who probably has the ugliest technique at present. Mental toughness is what's needed to survive in this format and that can only be tested when a batsman has been given enough chances to play in pressure situations.

His recent knock was scored in a low run scoring match and against a team which had Cheema(top wicket taker) and Zafar Gohar. So he must be doing something right if he was the only one scoring in that game.

Iftikhar Ahmed is so similar to Misbah ul Haq.

tuk tuk and then BOOOM! Unlike Asif Ali he does have a game plan. Even in domestic he tries to build his innings and then covers his high dot ball percentage with huge sixes.

His plus point is he can bowl as well and can play a role of the hitter at the end.

Well for the next T20, the Top 5 is confirmed to be:
    Fakhar, Babar, Akmal, Malik, Sarfraz*+

Maybe he can replace Asif at 6 but I don't see it happening tbh.

That's how Misbah also started in 2007. But such mature players usually get themselves into the top 4 and that's where their tuk tuk gets exposed eventually.

The reason you need to keep them at 6 in limited overs.

Yes for Eng one off T20. Malik will most probably retire after world cup.

Yes totally, you ideally need him to bat last 5-10 overs and bowl 3,4 overs as 6th bowler when required.

Also fufills that 6th bowler role you were looking for from a finisher.

Yes if he can hit like this then why not. Asif Ali has screwed up big time by not bowling.

Opening and batting at 6/7 are kind of similar while batting at 3/4/5 is a different ball game. Pakistan make the mistake of putting players in the wrong positions.

Pakistanis are always tempted to put the more mature players in the top 4. Also Ifti bats at 3/4 in domestic so he will end at that number if he keeps doing well regularly.

I remember how effective Misbah used to be down under but then got promoted and that's where things changed.

Considering his real age, his reflexes will desert him soon and he will have a very steep decline.

He might be finished 12 months from now. The ship has sailed and he should not be considered for international selection.

He's not good enough for international cricket, he should be content with a career in PSL.

Very impressive performance and unlike many other who he would be competing in Pakistan's middle order, he is a proper batsman and has all the shots, power and brain, this is the high time bring him back to nation team. And, he is just 26 .

just to remind you Ufti baba has cheated shamelessly in decreasing his age his real age is 32 I reckon and even hia previous pcb profile shows he was28 3 years back. And going by his batting just want to tell you Asif ali has smashed fastest psl 50 yesterday but we know how rubbish he was in national colours

This is the Pakistanis thing, people talk more about someone's age and not the real stuff. Who cares about his age, 26 or 32, bottom line is, he in in great form and has been performing well for year, deserves a call back to national team.

Since you appear to be in the know, can you tell us his real age?

It's listed as 28 on cricinfo, which doesn't seem out of line with when he started playing FC cricket.

He is at least 6-7 years older than his listed age. Several people have confirmed it already. Either they are misinformed, or he is simply the oldest looking 28 year old ever.

Who confirmed it? And is it 6 years or 7 (assuming you have it down exactly)?

Have you never met people that looked several years older or younger than their actual age?

Hope his opportunities are determined based on his performance and not on how old he ‘looks’.

There are also other posters on this forum who have confirmed that he is a massive age fudger.

I have no reason to dismiss their claims. Yes I know people who look older and younger than they are, but I have never seen a 28 year old who looks like him.

Obviously I cannot tell for sure what his actual age is, but I will be shocked if he is younger than 34-35.

I have nothing against him and I wish him well, but I don’t see the point of investing in a player who is already close to retirement age.

Age fudging is common in Pakistan cricket, but he has taken it to the next level. The PCB needs to do some investigation and find out is his real age. His stated YOB (1990) is a farce.
