    Well obviously they know.

Otherwise they could as well auction Stokes, Kohli, Dhoni etc. instead of these c grade players.

I can understand why PCB has denied NOC

Don't understand ACB's decision to mess with PCB. Unlike other countries ACB isn't any position of power especially because they aren't going to be hosting cricket in their home for the next 25 years atleast against top teams atleast

Afghan T20 League set to be played in September

The fifth edition of Shpageeza Cricket League, Afghanistan’s franchise-based Twenty20 competition, is set to be played from September 11-22 in Kabul, according to a release from the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) on Wednesday (August 23).

The tournament was initially scheduled to be played from July 18 to 28, but a deadly blast near the German Embassy in Kabul on May 31, which caused 90 casualties and over 400 injuries, led to its postponement.

Soon after the attack, Afghanistan cancelled the two friendly T20 matches they were scheduled to play against Pakistan. In response, Pakistan Cricket Board issued a release saying none of their players will be issued an NOC to take part in the tournament.

The PCB subsequently asked for an apology from ACB before working out the next step. With the new schedule announced, there is still no clarity over the participation of the Pakistan players bought at the auction – Umar Akmal, Sohail Tanvir, Kamran Akmal, Rumman Raees, Sohail Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan – but Bangladesh’s Tamim Iqbal, Imrul Kayes and Sabbir Rahman, along with Ryad Emrit of West Indies and Zimbabweans Sikandar Raza, Solomon Mire, Sean Williams and Hamilton Masakadza are expected to feature in the competition.

As per earlier plans, all matches, starting with Kabul Eagles, the defending champions, taking on Boost Defenders, will be played at the Kabul International Cricket Stadium.

All six teams in the competition will take each other on in a total of 15 league matches, with the top four sides battling it out in two qualifiers and an eliminator on the road to the final.

Each match will be played in day-time, and will be televised live across the country. The ACB has sold the broadcast rights of the tournament to One TV, one of the leading channels in Afghanistan.

    Full schedule:

September 11: Kabul Eagles v Boost Defenders; Amo Sharks v Speen Ghar Tigers

September 12: Band-e-Amir Dragons v Mis Ainak Knights; Boost Defenders v Speen Ghar Tigers

September 13: Amo Sharks v Kabul Eagles; Boost Defenders v Mis Ainak Knights

September 14: Band-e-Amir Dragons v Speen Ghar Tigers; Amo Sharks v Mis Ainak Knights

September 15: Band-e-Amir Dragons v Boost Defenders; Speen Ghar Tigers v Kabul Eagles

September 16: Kabul Eagles v Mis Ainak Knights; Boost Defenders v Amo Sharks

September 17: Mis Ainak Knights v Speen Ghar Tigers; Band-e-Amir Dragons v Amo Sharks
    September 18: Kabul Eagles v Band-e-Amir Dragons

    September 20: First Qualifier

    September 20: Eliminator

    September 21: Second Qualifier

    September 22: Final

I doubt pakistan players will be available too as we have a few matches in that period now plus i doubt theyl go because of what happened but at the same time knowing PCB i wont be surprised if they tried to make a deal again by sending a few non regular players and asking for a tour or return series in return!

I really hope none of the Pakistani player play. Afghanistan isn't safe and the ACB's attitude has ben terrible. It's not worth having any sort of a relationship with them.

Afridi, Gibbs to reunite in Afghanistan

Afridi, Gibbs to reunite in Afghanistan!

Known to be big hitters for their respective nations, Pakistan's Shahid Afridi and South Africa's Herschelle Gibbs will join forces in Kabul for the Sphageeza Cricket League. Afridi will be star player for the Muslimyar Speenghar Tigers while Gibbs will coach the side.

Only the other day the cricketing fraternity was mesmerised by the way Shahid Afridi slammed a century for Hampshire in the Natwest T20 Bash. The former Pakistan captain put Derbyshire bowlers to the sword, scoring 101 off just 42 deliveries. Now, the superstar is all set to travel to Kabul for the Sphageeza Cricket League, beginning next week. “I’ll be playing in the Afghan T20 league supporting and promoting peace through cricket,” Afridi confirmed.

The Pakistani will lead Muslimyar Speenghar Tigers in the tournament, which will feature some of the known names of international cricket. Joining Afridi will be another big-hitter Herschelle Gibbs, though as the coach of the Speenghar Tigers. The former South Africa batsman will be making his coaching debut in this tournament.

Confirming this to Sportstar on Sunday, Gibbs admitted that he is looking forward to the new assignment. “Yes, I will be joining the Speenghar Tigers as the coach,” he said. He would be travelling for the next couple of days to reach Kabul for the tournament, Gibbs added. Organised by the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), the league is styled like the Indian Premier League (IPL), with some of the corporate groups of Afghanistan buying the franchises.

Sportstar was the first to report about the league, which earlier was scheduled to be held from July 18-28. But the tournament ran into rough weather after a bomb blast in Kabul. Eventually, the ACB decided to sever ties with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), leading to the latter refusing to issue No Objection Certificates to its players.

But things changed last month following a meeting between the ACB chief, Atif Mashal, and his PCB counterpart Najam Sethi. In the ACC meeting in Colombo last month, the boards' top brass decided to bury the hatchet and the Pakistan players were eventually given the go-ahead to play in the Sphageeza League.

In his first-ever interview to an Indian media, Mashal had informed Sportstar that Afridi will be travelling to Kabul for the league. “Shahid Afridi will come to play in Kabul. Only those Pakistani cricketers who have central contract might not be available because of international commitments. The rest will come. We have also got NOC for the West Indies and Bangladesh players,” the ACB chief had said then.

With the league set to begin on September 12, it is also learnt that former Afghanistan coach Andy Moles and former West Indies coach Gus Logie will be taking charge as coaches in the league. With some of the big names coming to play in the league, the war-ridden Afghanistan will at least have something to cheer about in the next few weeks!

Abdul Razzaq signs contract with Afghan Cricket League

ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq has signed a contract with the Afghan Cricket League, it emerged on Tuesday. Razzaq will be a part of the team Amo Sharks participating in the Shpageeza Cricket League.

Earlier, former cricketer Shahid Afridi had announced on Twitter that he will also play in the upcoming Afghan league.

However, it has been reported in the media that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is not happy with Afridi’s decision. In this regard, the PCB has decided to not issue non-objection certificates to Pakistan cricketers in order to deter them from participating in the league. It has also been reported that Afridi has approached the PCB to seek an NOC regarding the Big Bash League but not the Afghan League.

Other players who are expected to play for the Afghan League include Umar Akmal, Kamran Akmal, Babar Azam, Sohail Tanvir and Ruman Raees. All the matches of the tournament will be held in Kabul in September.

Relations between Afghan Cricket Board and PCB soured after Afghanistan cancelled proposed home and away cricket fixtures with Pakistan in June.

In response, the PCB had cancelled the NOC for the Afghan League, which will be held in July. The two countries had mutually decided that 10 Pakistan cricketers will participate in the league. Moreover, the PCB also forbade all the cricketers and officials from participating or attending the Afghan League.

    ZC demand cricketers return

ZIMBABWE Cricket authorities have demanded that all Zimbabwean cricketers, who are in Afghanistan for the Shpageeza Cricket League, should return home with immediate effect in the wake of a bomb blast just outside the venue of one of the matches in Kabul yesterday.

A number of Zimbabweans have been in Kabul taking part in the Shpageeza Cricket League and they include Hamilton Masakadza, Vusi Sibanda, Raza Butt, Tendai Chatara, Elton Chigumbura, Richmond Mutumbami and Ryan Burl.

Yesterday’s blast occurred during a Shpageeza Cricket League match between Boost Defenders and MIS Ainak Knights in Kabul yesterday, which featured some Zimbabwean cricketers.

Local media in Kabul reported a suicide bomber detonated explosives at a security checkpoint en route to the Alokozay Kabul International Cricket Ground in Kabul.

The Afghanistan media also reported that the blast had killed two people, but the cricket board’s CEO confirmed that all the players, coaching staff and match officials were safe.

The league is Afghanistan’s domestic Twenty20 tournament and features six teams and about two dozen overseas players from South Africa, West Indies, Zimbabwe, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Oman.

The Defenders-Knights match was the second game of the day, following the Amo Sharks-Kabul Eagles contest.

ZC spokesperson Darlington Majonga told The Herald last night they had been in touch with their Afghan counterparts and ordered that they ensure that all Zimbabwean players should be put on the first plane out of Kabul.

“Following today’s events, Zimbabwe Cricket has ordered that all Zimbabwean players who are in Afghanistan should be put on the first plane out of Kabul so that they return home and we have communicated that with our counterparts in that country,’’ said Majonga.

“Although we have been given assurance that the players are safe, we have decided against taking any chances and that is why we need all our players back home as soon as possible. “We believe that efforts are now being made by our Afghan counterparts to ensure that our players get on the first plane and fly back home.’’

Every human life is precious but if any terrorist able to stop a match or stop foreign players to come by killing a some soft target, some innocent people with minimum effort, they will keep doing it. As long as players and spectators are provided with enough security, matches should continue. Thats the only way to face and discourage terrorism.

Band-e-Amir Dragons claim Afghan T20 league

KABUL: Band-e-Amir Dragons clinched the Shpageeza Cricket League here on Friday by edging past Mis Ainak Knights in a thrilling final over. With the match changing hands practically every over, Tendai Chatara, the Zimbabwean fast bowler, came back in for the final over and snatched it for the the Dragons..

Starting with a couple of tight deliveries, he conceded only singles, bringing the equation from 12 down to 10 off the last four balls. His countryman, Sikandar Raza, was run-out off the third ball. Despite some further see-sawing with a no ball as well off the penultimate delivery, he managed to hold onto his nerve and seal the deal for his side.

The spin twins, Rashid Khan (4-0-22-1) and Shahidullah (3-0-17-0) put a firm grip on the scoring in the middle overs, pulling things back after a quick start. Mohammad Nabi then came along, ganged up with Raza and rescued his side from 92 for 5 to stitch together a 28-ball 46-run stand for the sixth wicket.

Earlier in the day, the Dragons slipped from a position of strength of 72 for no loss to 129 for 6. The wrecker-in-chief was another tweaker, Zakir Khan, spinning a web around the middle order to pick up a three-fer. A wagging tail saw them scrapping to something respectable.
