India is becoming the new Australia of the 2000s

With sub 40 average batsmen in our team along with the ATG Virat Kholi there is no doubt that this batting line up matches up with the great Australians. Dhawan, Rohit, Rahul, Kholi are all comparable to Gilchrist, Hayden, Ponting, Bevan.

The bowling is lining up well and improving day by day. Fast bowlers are reaching new heights as Bhuvi, Yadav and Shami consistently hit 140+ They always come out with a plan backed by the agile and swift fielding. Spinners also play an important role and this is where India might better the Aussies, as we have spinners capable of wreaking havoc in the subcontinent.

India have dominated world cricket since the 2011 cricket World Cup but now, starting with this Pakistan match, it seems like team India will be ruthlessly dominating all opponents similar to the Australians of the 2000s.

No. They need to find replacements for Dhoni and Yuvraj quickly. If they were still at their peak, India's batting would be even better than 2000s Australia.

OTT thread. Indian team is good but they have weakness. Dhoni and Yuvraj could struggle vs Australian and South African attack. Also Rohit and Dhawan are inconsistent.

Indian team has choked in last couple off icc tournaments.

Yes they have but I am saying that with the balance they have brought into this champions trophy they have a chance to create a legendary team from here.

England are far from India's level. They have a horrible bowling line up.

Australia's only batsmen are Warner and Smith while India has more reliable batsmen.

The Australian side had a world class spinner. Couple of world class pace bowlers.

They had a gun a batting side: Gilly Hayden Ponting Clarke Symonds Hussey. And all where world class.

With all due respect India has a lot of weaknesses still.

India has 2 world class spinners in Ash and Sir Jadeja.

India has one of the best batting line ups with Dhawan, Rohit, Kl Rahul, Kholi, Jadhav.

Dhoni and Yuvi are the only weaknesses and they'll be gone soon and replaced with better talents and youngsters, great times ahead as an Indian fan.

The current English batting line up is probably the closest thing to that Aussie line up.

Bro although bowlers are cannon fodders these days, when conditions are helpful theyll come in use, and here is where India are better than England, better bowlers and variety.

I disagree. Woakes, Wood, Anderson and Rashid are all good ODI bowlers for when the conditons are right.

like you said tho, bowlers anyway are cannon fodder so the best batting line up is what will determine who and what wins. Overall, India may edge out in bowling but the gulf between the batting line ups is quite vast. Modern day ODIs are a slogfest, England are perfectly suited for that with only 1 actual accumulator (who too can also play very when required). India have Rohit, Dhoni and Yuvraj.....

India is not even the best ODI side today, let alone anywhere comparable to that Aussie side.

Be honest, did you even watch cricket in the early 2000's? And to be more specific, have you even bothered watching the highlights of just ONE match of the ealy 2000's XI? Keep deluding yourself but that was the GOAT ODI side of all time and present Indian side is not even the best of its own time..

The fear factor is not there with india and thts due to their bowling ... bangladesh won against this same team, england gave then nailbitters in last series @Indian soil. Its a funny thread. I dont know why Indian fans are so fascinated with pace, having bowlers who can ball over 140 kph is good but their quality matter as well.

2000's Australia had Mcgrath (Mid 135 kph but was a legend of the game), had Brett Lee and Jason Gillispie and Warne as a spinner. India doesnt have a single bowler close to the caliber of any of stated above. If you are into numbers look at the stats of the current indian bowlers and compare them with the bowlers of Australia of 2000's.

Their bowling is no where near that attack, lol. As far as batting is concerned, they are flat track bullies, especially in Tests. No comparison at all. That was the best team of all time. Won 3 World Cups in a row, which is not a joke. In future, only Pakistan will be able to surpass that team.

Fans go ballistic after every team win and loss. It's either the best ever team or the worst. It's either xxx is all time great or worst player ever to set foot in team

Why can't we enjoy cricket as a game and not some scripted movie where hero always wins.

Win and losses should be accepted with equal measure.

This generation of Indian players are the 2nd best ODI unit ever.

    After Aus 99-08.
Counting from CT 2013 although WC11 has many carry thru players linking the eras. It is the Dhoni generation.
They are fearless, gifted, organized and mentally strong. This CT is probably theirs and the WC19 too.

What did I tell you friends?

After this champions trophy India will propel themselves into an unbeatable unit, especially in ICC events.

They just need to win this final, then we can all safely say that this team is just as good if not better than the 2000s Aussies.

How many away tests and ODI series have you guys won to make this tall claim?

Even in this tournament a rookie team like SL had a convincing win against you guys.

This tournent win is the most easiest ICC trophy Indian team has ever fluked.
Having Pakistan and SA in the same group one is ranked 8 and other is renowned chokers in crunch game then you guys had BD in the semi final and now meet Pak again whose strength are more against a non subcontient team esp the spin trio.

This will be a false hope if you are really dreaming India to be new Aus of 2000.

SA tour will be their first away assignment after long home season. And that tour will be their true test.

    You are just wrong

Guys like Hussey, McGill and Harris could not get into that side, all 3 would walk into Indias side and pretty much every other side in the world

Amazing how an immature comment can have a thread this long. Gilchrist as an opener was shredding the top bowlers to pieces and we have people arguing to a kid I guess.

The Aussie side of the 2000s won everywhere and the quality of sides everywhere was better. India still gets trounced outside the subcontinent - there is no comparison.

Australia is Australia. Even in 2015 they destroyed every team in the world cup. That was just two years ago.

Ind batting has always been good but bowling is no where near the likes of Starc, mitchell johnson, Hazlewood, etc.

If not for rain pretty sure they wouldve beaten India in Semis. Australia is a different breed in crunch games unlike BD. Hell even SL destroyed this current ATG team.

However its true that current Ind ODI is one of the best no doubt.

Not many compared to the Aussies but they are getting there, I assure you.

Anyways I was only talking bout ODIs, tests are extremely overrated and boring, awful ambassador for cricket, will be extinct anyways in the next few decades, good riddance.

India already lost to SL in this CT, lost to Australia in WC. Australia has an unbeaten run in like 2 or 3 world cups.

Don't think so, this India team is beatable if you get out their top 3 cheaply (which doesn't happen very often but still) and their bowling is definitely not as good as that Australian bowling lineup. Also, I don't see them winning consecutive ICC tournaments in a row or staying unbeaten as long as the Australian team did in WC's.

Regardless, the true ranking i would give this Indian team is top 3-4 but not 1. Don't have the quality to excel in England, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa as far as test matches are concerned.

This India side has the POTENTIAL to be like AUS but that's a long way away. In LO cricket they have to win more World cups and win them consistently and the Test game abroad needs to return to 2007-2010 level. Even then, you'd have to admit there was something VERY special about the AUS side from late 90s to to mid 00s that I can't see being replicated. Welcome to be proven wrong though!

The 2000s Australian team would walk all over India with all due respect.

    1) Multiple ATG batsmen (Hayden, Ponting, Bevan)
    2) Multiple ATG fast bowlers (Mcgrath, Lee)
    3) Greatest wicketkeeper of all time (Gilly)
    4) Greatest leg spinner of all time (Warne + Macgill in reserves)

    It's not even close.
