    Manchester City | 2017-18 Season

Expectations are bound to have skyrocketed after Manchester City splurged ghastly amounts of money during the transfer window, primarily on overhauling their defence. Consequently, Pep Guardiola will be under intense pressure to deliver a Premier League title this time around.

    What a performance against Watford.

If Aguero stays fit all season, City will be Premier League champions.

Benjamin Mendy's Knee Injury Diagnosed as Ruptured ACL, to Undergo Surgery

Manchester City have confirmed Benjamin Mendy has suffered a ruptured ACL and will require surgery on his right knee.

The left-back suffered the injury in Saturday's win over Crystal Palace, but the severity wasn't clear until now.

Per the report, Mendy had initial tests done on his knee in Manchester and flew to Barcelona to see a specialist.

The Frenchman didn't lose his sense of humour: He announced on Twitter he'll be joining "Injury FC," advised a fan to sell his FIFA 18 One to Watch Card and proclaimed his intention to become a professional FIFA 18 gamer.

As City's top option at the left-back position―and the only real specialist―Mendy was a highly anticipated arrival this summer. He enjoyed a fine start to the season, and City worked well with him in the starting XI, so manager Pep Guardiola will have some real tinkering to do.

Per Goal's Shane Burns, he's unlikely to play again for City this season and could miss the 2018 FIFA World Cup as well.

Sergio Aguero injured in car crash

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has reportedly suffered broken ribs after the Argentine forward was involved in a car crash in Amsterdam on Thursday night.

Argentine newspaper Diairio Ole said Aguero, who was in the Netherlands to attend a concert of Colombian singer-songwriter Maluma, was riding in a taxi when the vehicle crashed into a pole.Name: 44D8920B00000578-4932200-image-a-26_1506665909699.jpg

Aguero, 29, is thought to have escaped more serious injury because he was wearing his seatbelt during the incident, which is said to have happened while he was making his way back to the airport, but is thought to have received hospital treatment as a result.

I hope you meant "England" rather than "Europe".
At least let them win the Champions League before over-rating them to such an extent.

Football's easy isn't it when you can spend more than the entire defence budget of Bosnia-Herzegovina on defenders alone in one season.

There playing some brilliant football. Pep has transformed City into a very good team. Yes he's had money to spend but you will have to spend money to compete with the best. He's dominating the premier league and showing the doubters why is he rated as one of the greatest managers of all time.

This is true but what a joy to watch. City are playing like Barcelona did under Pep. You cannot knock the beautiful game played in a beautiful way.

De Bruyne is truly world class, some of his passes are sublime.

Expect Wolves to beat Man City tomorrow in Carabao Cup

Man City don't care about it
Wolves players on form and will be up for it and will be cheered on by noisy 6000 away fan following.
It's Nuno Espirito Santo vs Pep so Nuno will have his team up for this.
Pep will be more concerned about League and next week's Champions League game

Sergio Aguero was taken to hospital after fainting in the dressing room following Argentina's 4-2 defeat by Nigeria in Krasnodar, Russia.

The Manchester City striker had scored to put his side 2-0 up in the first half, but Arsenal's Alex Iwobi found the net twice as Nigeria came back.

Aguero regained consciousness in hospital, where he remained for tests.

Leicester's Kelechi Iheanacho had halved the deficit, with Brian Idowu scoring between Iwobi's pair.

Iheanacho scored with a free-kick after Ever Banega and Iheanacho's former Manchester City team-mate Aguero had put Argentina into a two-goal lead inside 36 minutes.

Iwobi levelled early in the second half and, after Idowu had put the Super Eagles ahead, the Arsenal midfielder extended the lead for Gernot Rohr's side with 18 minutes left.

This season they are on fire..... they have got the best squad and what i really like is that they always look to attack and never hold back, during this record run many times they had conceded the goal first but their aggression won them all those games. Their best player was sitting on the bench against United yet they won against them almost comfortably... They have got beasts in Midfield Silva, kevin, Sterling are simply awesome.

The Brazilian, 20, went off in tears after injuring a knee during the first half at Selhurst Park.

City said the player would "undergo further examinations to establish the extent of his lay-off".

City manager Pep Guardiola previously said the injury would keep Jesus out for "a little more than a month".

Playmaker Kevin de Bruyne could also be set for a spell out after he left the field on a stretcher.

However, the Belgian was seen hobbling along the touchline after the game.

"You have to admire the physicality of the Premier League, but the referees need to protect the players, that is all I ask," Guardiola said.

Relive Sunday's goalless draw at Selhurst Park
After arriving in January, Jesus missed two months of last season with a fractured metatarsal.

He is certain to miss Tuesday's Premier League visit of Watford.

Jesus could be joined on the sidelines by De Bruyne, who has contributed a league-high nine assists this season.

The 26-year-old was on the receiving end of a late tackle from Palace midfielder Jason Puncheon.

"There is a line where you go above and it is dangerous," said Guardiola.

"Sometimes because the football is quicker and faster it happens, they don't want to hurt the other. But they can be out for a long time."

The goalless draw ended City's 18-match winning run in the Premier League, but they took a 14-point lead into 2018.

And they clung on to their unbeaten record in the league this season as goalkeeper Ederson saved Luka Milivojevic's stoppage-time penalty after substitute Raheem Sterling had fouled Wilfried Zaha.

Sergio Aguero is their only fit senior striker, but Guardiola refused to confirm reports of a January move for Arsenal striker Alexis Sanchez.

"He is a player for Arsenal and I think he is going to stay there," said Guardiola.

"In two days we have another game, after that we have meetings. My feeling now is Alexis is an Arsenal player."

England defender John Stones was an unused substitute against Palace having been out for over a month with a hamstring injury.

FERNANDINHO SIGNS SECRET NEW MAN CITY CONTRACT

It has been widely reported that the Brazilian is currently in talks with the Premier League leaders, but in fact he has already signed a new deal
Fernandinho has signed a contract extension with Manchester City, Goal can reveal.

The Brazilian midfielder's old deal was due to expire at the end of the current campaign, meaning he would have been free to talk to overseas clubs from January 1.

But City have worked hard in recent weeks to reach an agreement with the 32-year-old, who has become a key player for Pep Guardiola's Premier League leaders.

It has been reported this week that contract talks are currently in progress, but Goal can confirm that Fernandinho has already reached an agreement with the club.

And while Goal reported on Wednesday morning that Gabriel Jesus has agreed to the terms of a new deal but is yet to sign it, Fernandinho has already put pen to paper and is playing under his renewed terms.

The deal is thought to run until the end of the 2018-19 season, with the option to negotiate a further year. The club are expected to make an official announcement in the coming weeks.

City officials are relieved to have tied down the midfielder, as there had been some concern over the past 18 months that he would leave on a free transfer, given several unsuccessful attempts were made throughout last season to agree an extension.

The Brazil international and his family are happy in Manchester, however, and had always intended to stay if a suitable offer was made.

More important to tie Fernandinho down than signing Sanchez, he's been absolutely immense this season.

Pep Guardiola: Man City boss says he has run out of players after naming six substitutes

Manchester City named only six substitutes for Saturday's 1-1 draw at Burnley as they have run out of players, says manager Pep Guardiola.

City have spent £418m on their squad since Guardiola arrived in 2016, but seven senior players are out injured.

The manager recently called on referees to protect players after Leroy Sane was injured in an FA Cup win at Cardiff.

Asked if it was a surprise that City could not field a full squad, Guardiola said: "Yes, but they are injured."

He added: "We do not have any more players."

For the trip to Burnley, the Premier League leaders were without forwards Sane and Gabriel Jesus, midfielders David Silva, Fabian Delph and Phil Foden, plus defenders John Stones and Benjamin Mendy.

Guardiola named club-record £57m signing Aymeric Laporte among his substitutes at Turf Moor, along with the experienced Claudio Bravo and Yaya Toure.

However, he also named three inexperienced players aged 21 or under - defenders Tosin Adarabioyo and Oleksandr Zinchenko, plus midfielder Brahim Diaz.

Teams can name a maximum of seven substitutes.

BBC Radio 5 live pundit Pat Nevin suggested that Guardiola's selection could be interpreted as a protest against recent challenges made on City players.

Both Diaz and Kevin de Bruyne were on the end of late tackles during Wednesday's 3-1 win over West Brom, while winger Raheem Sterling claimed on Friday that City players are being "butchered" by bad tackles.

Asked if Guardiola was trying to make that point, Nevin said: "Yes, 100%. I think you've nailed it there."

Guardiola said he decided not to promote any of his players from the elite development squad - the under-23 side - because they played against Swansea on Friday.

He said they would have been wasting time sitting on the bench at Burnley when they could have been getting match time with the Under-23s instead.

Clubs are allowed to name up to 25 players aged over 21 in their Premier League squad, although only 17 of those places can be filled by 'non-homegrown' players.

City's squad contains 18 players over 21, although that does not include Brazil striker Jesus, who is classed as an under-21 player because he was born after 1 January 1996.

Paris - Premier League leaders Manchester City have the most expensive squad in history, according to a report published on Monday by the Swiss-based CIES Football Observatory.

The research values Pep Guardiola's squad at €878 million, with Paris Saint-Germain second on €805 million, after a January transfer window in which City acquired centre-back Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao for €65 million.

Neymar's world-record signing from Barcelona accounts for more than a quarter of the PSG total but Kylian Mbappe is only on loan, despite an anticipated transfer fee of up to €180 million to be paid to Monaco at the end of the season.

That leaves Guardiola managing the costliest-ever collection of talent.

"When you want to compete at the highest level, you need to spend," Guardiola said last month.

"Some clubs spend 300, 400 million on two players. We spend it on six players."

Two other teams have spent more than €700 million building their squads -- Manchester United (€747 million) and Barcelona (€725 million).

The rest of the top ten is made up of Real Madrid in sixth, Juventus in eighth and four Premier League teams -- Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Everton.

The researchers calculated that the average Premier League squad cost "a record high" of €291 million, more than double La Liga's average of €131 million.

Manchester City win the 2017-18 Premier League - Congratulations Thread

Winning the league after United lose at home to West Brom. Is this the best Premier League side ever, or not as good as the invincible team, 1999 United treble winning team etc?

Congratulations to Manchester City. Hard to write this being a United fan but they deserve it

    Congratulations to Manchester City.

City did what the other big teams failed to do, they managed to break down opposition who came to defend. De Bryne and Sane the two players who couldn't be contained.
