    What is your favorite Qawwali?

    I'll start off:

    1) Sanson ki mala - Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan - One of the most underrated Qawwali's by NFAK ever. Beautiful poetry and the beat is amazing.

    2) Merey Rashk-e-Qamar - Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan - Was extremely underrated and unknown until recently but getting recognition now.

    3) Tu Kuja Man Kuja - NFAK - Discovered it after Coke Studio. Absolutely marvelous. Takes me on another, mystical level.

    4) Tumhey Dil Lagi bhool jani parhey gi - NFAK - Most famous qawwali and I love it just as much.

    5) Mast Nazron sy Allah bachaye - NFAK - Now the thing about this qawwali is that it is beyond beautiful anyway but people have rarely heard the original, full-length version which heavenly. The poetry at the beginning with NFAK and Farrukh FAK is breathtaking and just sets the tone for an amazing bit of music to follow.

Sorry for only including NFAK. I love RFAK, Sabri brothers, Aziz Mian, Niazi brothers and a bunch of other great Qawwals and often listen to their masterpieces but nothing beats the qawwalis of NFAK Sahab and these 5 fall in my top 5.

    Honorable mentions:

Rung - RFAK and Amjad Sabri (Late).

Never really got into them. Only ever really liked NFAK's tumhe zindagi and that was because one of my roommates in LUMS would get stoned every day and listen to it on repeat for hours.

All of Ustad Sahab's qawwalis. I've recently started going through all his live performances on youtube and some of them are insanely magnetic. Some of his intros that he did for those live performances were out of this world...I'll share some Youtube links when I get home. Literally all his songs have something amazing about them. What a legend...there will be never be another.

    This one:

    https://soundcloud.com/sanghera/nusr...li-khan-yeh-jo

Not just any version of Halka Halka Suroor, the version. I believe it was recorded at a show in London in 1984 or so, still a few years before Peter Gabriel, The Last Temptation of Christ, and global superstardom. Its all there, the voice, the technique, the entourage, and it is raw, not the over-processed stuff they were making him churn out towards the end of his life.

Not particularly fond of Asian music per se, qawwali or otherwise. As for Indian films, haven't watched one since I was a teenager when my parents took me to the cinema. Recently I've become enamoured with 50's, 60's, 70's and '80's Rock after coming across an old Fidelity turntable along with a few dozen vinyls in a house a friend bought and he gave the whole lot to me to see what I could do with them.

Not into Qawwali's much right now. I go through phases. But back when I was into them, a few which I loved were:

    Sanson ki mala - NFAK

    Taj Dar-e-Haram - Sabri Brothers

Yaad-e-Nabi ka gulshan mehka - NFAK

The intro on halka halka suroor is probably the best one I've heard. Such beautiful transition. And Gorakh Dhanda is just always a mystical experience. 26 minutes of once in a life time master toying with his craft

The true shehnshah-e-qawwal. He brought so much life in to qawwalis and was unmatched in his improvisation. It's kind of sad that Rahat is not even half of the qawwali singer his uncle was.

NFAK mostly sang religious Qawwali's. Not every Qawwali is religious like the famous one I have posted.

Not wanting to make this in to a Rafi v NFAK Qawwali competition thread I believe Rafi's Qawwali's were equal if not better then NFAK's.
