149 the target- could be close as Sargodha's batting is not as strong.

I liked the approach. Of course, they could have scored quicker bu the idea of holding wickets, and not letting too many balls go without a boundary was a good. 106-1 at 15.1 was good, but Farzan got two balls, otherwise Waqar and Sikandar could have really launched from there.

Batting at s/r of 115 was selfish and if they lose, it will be because of how slowly those two batted.

This is the exact issue with the Pakistan national team- problem starts at the grassroots.

Whatever one may think of the talent of display, it was a fun tournament. Sporting activities are always good. Bigger and better than the last one and by the looks of it, third will one will be even bigger. I mean, Aqib Javed saying they would do home and way basis, that would be unreal.

GADDAFI STADIUM ROARS AS LAHORE QALANDARS-JAZZ RISING STARS T20 CUP CONCLUDES WITH SARGODHA WINNING

Lahore– 8th October, 2017: It was unbelievable scenes at Gaddafi Stadium as Sargodha Rising Stars squared up against Layyah Rising Stars in the final of Jazz Rising Stars T20 Cup. A jam-packed Gaddafi Stadium witnessed dazzling fireworks, musical performances in addition to the presence of former Pakistan Test Cricketers such as Inzamam-Ul-Haq, Saleem Yousaf, Junaid Zia and Rao Iftikhar Anjum along with former PCB Chairman, Tauqir Zia among the attendees.

It was a terrific batting display by Sargodha’s M. Naveed who scored 67 off 61 balls guiding his team to win with 9 balls remaining. Layyah batted first and gave a target of 149 for Sargodha to chase. Sikander Khan continued his fine form with the bat for Layyah scoring 43 off 41 balls along with his partner Waqar Hussain who scored a lovely half century of 57 runs off just 47 balls. However, it was short lived as Layyah collapsed immediately after Sikander and Waqar got out and could not form any other significant partnership. Raja Farzan was the standout bowler for Sargodha as he took three wickets.

Nisar Afridi scored 16 off just 7 balls to take Sargodha over the line and help them become the champions of Lahore Qalandars-Jazz Rising Stars T20 Cup with jubilant celebrations in front of a full-house Gaddafi Stadium.

The journey continues now as the selected best 16 players will be representing Lahore Qalandars Academy team in Sydney Australia to play a series against Sydney Thunder, Sydney Sixers and Hobart Hurricanes towards the end of October.

These type of tournaments should also be regularly held at the under13, under16, and under19 levels. Good talent may graduate through such levels with enough top class cricketing exposure from a very young age.

Abdullah bhai, these are just my thoughts but to answer your question I would suggest the following spells:

    Mamoon Riaz
    Ameer Hamza
    Farzan Raja
    Usman Khalid

In terms of batting, please upload M Naveed’s knock (if you could also upload his semi-final knock that would be great).

There is no rush, take your time.

    Final- Key Performances

Some good performances from the usual suspects as explained below:

    Layyah’s Batting/Sargodha’s Bowling

Mamoon Riaz and Ameer Hamza bowled pretty well again, especially their opening overs. That said the 16th over (bowled by Hamza) was poor.

Legspinner Farzan Raja was expensive but picked up three wickets. Bowled a few loose deliveries mixed with some big turning deliveries. Later in the game, he showed further ability with the bat, and used his feet well against the spinners.

I know Waqar Hussain (57 off 47) and Sikander Khan (43 off 41) shared a big partnership but to be honest I wasn’t impressed. Much like the national team, they motored along at barely 6 runs an over and seemed happy to do so. It ended up costing them the game in my opinion. Just goes to show that these things have to be addressed at the grassroots.

Usman Khalid looked good but was run out for 11 (7) in the final over. Later in the game, he bowled a tight spell and picked up two wickets.

    Sargodha’s Batting/Layyah’s Bowling

Opener Muhammad Naveed looked good- scored 67 (61) to follow up on his 67* (52) in the semi-final. Whilst this might look a little slow, he was chasing both times and batted accordingly. That said, I explain how he can improve on his S/R further down.

Out of the three games he played, he scored two half centuries (in the SF and Final respectively.) I don’t think he was even part of Sargodha’s original squad so this is certainly a big achievement for him.

Some info on his batting style:

He looked to play positively whilst at the crease and played a lot of innovative shots. For a small guy (has a keeper’s frame) he certainly packs a punch, and he found the boundary (and often cleared it) when he looked to time the ball. His checked drives reminded me of Shoaib Malik.

However, he is by no means the finished article. When he looked to muscle the ball, especially at the start of the innings, he ended up wafting at thin air and looking like a tail ender largely because his feet were glued to the pitch and he tries swinging at everything as hard as he can. This meant he ended up needlessly consuming deliveries. Needs to develop this aspect of his game, as he looked good later in his innings when he was actually looking to time the ball.

Moving on, Nisar Afridi contributed a very handy cameo of 16 (7). This knock made what could have been an awkward chase into a straightforward one. Has a pretty solid frame. Made a few starts in the tournament but didn’t really press on. Could just turn out to be a hack but showed good temperament in the final.

Off spinner Ahmer Ajaz only bowled two overs. Lacked a little control (dew was a factor) but he looked good when he got it right. His fielders really let him down in the second over which ruined his figures.

    Forget to add:

    (I) Hamza and Mamoon were getting some movement in their opening overs and;
(II) Naveed looked a little suspect during that period (ie when the ball was moving around). Plenty to work with though.

Right now he's coming over the front leg but not really catapulting himself. Let's hope he gets the right training and technical coaching.
    How interesting.

It's disappointing that Ameer wasn't picked for the tour to Australia. I hope he sticks at it as he looks like he has ability.

At first, I was surprised when you mentioned Mamoon doesn't extend his front leg enough but all became clear when you said he is not catapulting himself. As ever, great insight.
