Can someone proficient in Hindi/Urdu explain this lyric to me?
For the past few weeks all I've been listening to is Kishore. I understand all the lyrics to his songs but there's one verse I don't quite understand. It's very popular and is supposed to be very poetic but I just cant figure out what he really means. Basically, in the last verse of the song "Pyar Diwana Hota Hai" he sings
"Suno kisi shayar ne yeh kaha bahot khoob
Mana kare duniya lekin mere mehboob....
Woh chalak jaata hai jo paimana hota hai"
I understand that paimana is a goblet with wine in it but I don't understand what deep meaning this lyric has. The first 2 verses of the song are also beautiful and very deep but I get them. An explanation from someone who gets it would be appreciated.

Suno kisi shayar ne yeh kaha bahot khoob
Mana kare duniya lekin mere mehboob....
Woh chalak jaata hai jo paimana hota hai
There has been a prophecy by some great poet
Even if society says no....
If a drunk fills his glass to the brim, then alcohol will fall.
Meaning -
Even if your lover says no, a person who is truly in love won't accept it and will continue to pursue.

Its a relief others were able to help you. As a matter of principle, I couldn't have commented on anything Bollywood-related, in particular this Kishore Kumar fellow. His songs are anthems for urban petite bourgeoisie "cheapsters," as they are called.
I would urge you to listen to classical music for the next month or so, to cleanse your ears.

Kishore was unbelievably good. You have to give a more detailed analysis on why you think he wasn't. You have just given a vague statement. For me he's the GOAT. I listen to qawwalis etc a lot as well so that isn't a problem. The truth is that apart from NFAK we have never produced a singer as good as kishore and we probably never will looking at some of these guys. Find me any other musical artist apart from The Beatles or Led Zeppelin, with a more versatile body of work. There is no one. I've listened to every great English or Hindi artist and I haven't found anyone with as many great songs as kishore. The Beatles, Stones and Zeppelin come close.
