Rank the current ODI wicket-keeper batsmen

Based on batting and wicket-keeping skills both.

Here's the pecking order in world cricket according to me.

    Quentin De Kock
    Joss Butler
    Johnny Bairstow
    MS Dhoni
    Niroshan Dickwella
    Sarfraz
    Mushfiq Rahim
    Mathew Wade
    Chadwick Walton

What does PakPassion think? Is QdK the best gloveman in the ODI business? Is Buttler a better ODI 'keeper than Bairstow? Is a declining Dhoni considered effective enough to edge ahead of Dickwella?

    Inquiring minds want to know.

A declining MSD is still more clutch than De Kock/Butler/Bairstow combined.

Safaraz might no be the best of the lot but he is gold for our Pak team.

    Others are meh.

Ranking is very difficult because of their team combinations etc. Too lazy to take everything in account give you a ranking

Well they have just started off. Not fair to say they aren't clutch unless they fail at their peak.

Dhoni was miserable too until 2011 WC final.

    QdK
    Buttler
    Mushfiq
    Dhoni
    Dickwella
    Sarfraz
    Walton
    Wade

    - Obviously, Dhoni is at #4 based on current form and ability.

    - Mushfiq is a dumb leader, but he is an extremely underrated batsman.

Bairstow doesn't keep in ODIs, otherwise he would be #2 after QdK.

Dhoni was always a phenomenal player. Between 2004-10 he averaged 50+ at Sr 88 including 7 hundreds. Against Pakistan he averaged 54 @SR of 95.

    As a batsman J Butler is #1
As a Keeper Dhoni is still by far the best gloveman

As an allround keeper batsman, QDK

Sarfraz Ahmed is so overhyped for his petty 30s and 40s.

And his Captaincy has a scar on everyone's mind. But, on pure WK_batsman merit, he is actually among very best - after Kok & Butler, you can slot him; though in recent times Butler is struggling with his slogging.

I don't think Wade should be in that list. He has been pretty poor in any format over the last year or 2. QDK obviously is doing well and So is Jos Buttler. MS Dhoni has been consistent this year without being spectacular and Mushfiq is doing well for BD. So my top 3 for now will be:

    QDK
    Buttler
    Mushfiq

What has Buttler do so far to be rated this high? He's poor in the tests and played a few good innings in meaningless bilaterals. An average in low 30s is nothing special.

QDK and Bairstow are both number one for me.

Gap of talent between Quinton De Kock and Sarfaraz Ahmed is getting wider.

Continuous failures of Sarfaraz while Quinton De Kock’s yesterday’s innings of 168 signifies that only one of them will be New Adam Gilchrist. And it is not going to be Sarfaraz. He is already 30+ and I can see his further decline by 2019 WC.

    What?

Sarfaraz was never as talented as QDK.

He has played most of his matches on easy UAE pitches, yet cannot get a 40 average / 90 strike rate score, cannot hit big shots like the saffer, if you've always looked at it with an unbiased eye then you would have known this.

There was never any comparison to begin with. Sarfraz is a decent bat but nowhere near QDK. QDK can make it in the team as a bat alone. And yeah, completely different roles.

De Kock is once in a generation player and Sarfaraz is ok player, but nothing speciel.

De Kock glovework is also much better then Sarfaraz.

QDK is the best keeper/batsman over the last 18 months or so.

I dont think Bairstow has kept wicket in ODIs this year has he? Buttler has kept but his batting as been woeful. Without looking at the numbers, I'd think Sarfraz, Rahim, Dickwella have all probably done more and scored more.

Sarfraz's stats are too good for him to be rated so low (still 35+/86+ batting stats), and as Captain he is at 8-2 W/L, with a CT winners medal; but probably his WK is so poor that he is rated so low. To my book, he is probably at 5/6 with Dickwella, but his stocks are falling fast. You have to be really, really poor to be an inferior Gloves-man than Wade & Mushi!!!!
